Thank you for the kind words. I remember and am closely watching the Cystozira, and I still hope for success. As for the ov, I've already given up - it's impossible to find them in the apartment. I have a freshwater Potamon living with me. It has already escaped three times. The last time, I had to lure it out by placing small containers of water around the apartment. Now I've covered it with glass to avoid any headaches.

Hello! I am sincerely glad that we have more people, and even in the same city. Why didn't you call? I have 500 liters of prepared water. If you need water for an urgent replacement, feel free to reach out. When the situation in the aquarium stabilizes, I invite you over; I can give you some fry for revitalization, and we can sort things out. Also, if you decide to throw away the cystozira, I will take it. I wish you good luck. Best regards.

Steven

Hello! Thank you, if there was no salt at Troitskoye, I was about to get worried. Actually, on the day of arrival, I was a bit out of it... I'm also curious about how the cystozira will behave; if anything, I'll bring it... I wasn't planning on getting any fish - there are no small peaceful ones in the Black Sea. And the swallows will feel cramped in 25 liters - there's almost no space to swim. Maybe today I'll manage to take a general shot of the aquarium, though it's slightly suffering because of the bags.

Todd

You're welcome. I will follow the developments with great interest. I will be especially pleased if the algae take hold because thoughts of the Black Sea biotope do not leave me. If possible, I recommend the Troitsk attachments for variable currents (51). Initially, I responded negatively to them, but then I installed them and am satisfied. Best regards.

Joseph9057

What diameter is the "exhaust pipe" designed for? Because the one they have in the sea seems to be fitted with a pump of about 2 tons (or so).

Julie3950

They come with three or four adapters for different sizes, and the nozzles are designed for pumps of 300-1200 liters, as stated on the box. The durability of these nozzles is in question. Aravana installed them on two-ton pumps, and the nozzles deteriorated after a month. I have two on the RN1100 and one on the RN2000, and so far they are working fine. Best regards.

Jessica6754

I also have two NASAs. One has a head of 1500 l/h, the other 1100 l/h - everything is fine, they work.

Kendra2262

For my aquarium, it's quite expensive for a piece of plastic. I'll try to use makeshift solutions for now. Right now, two pumps are working alternately for 15 minutes with a 7.5-minute pause. It's not possible to do better with two mechanical timers (each one is set to turn on every third segment, and one is lagging behind the other by 22.5 minutes). I will also need to make the pumps work simultaneously sometimes. Or better yet, I could solder a basic multivibrator with monostable oscillators. Even better would be to work with microcontrollers.

Phyllis

They will fly quickly; they are not designed for such modes. The topic of similar experiments has been raised several times on the AL forum, and in the end, you can only play around like this with electric motors for small airplanes or boats, even better with a controller from 5V to 12V - then it’s really great. And how do they start? We have two-ton vehicles that make a racket; if you try to start them with a timer, you can get tired of listening to the noise.

Gabriel

The day before yesterday evening, I replaced 5 liters of water. Before the replacement, the ammonia level was about 1.5 mg/L, and in the morning, there were no changes. In the morning, I found a partially eaten Donax; either it got poisoned or someone caught it - in the last few days, it had been opening too wide. Today at 0:30, the baby shrimp hatched, and I partially transferred them to a separate container with about 2 liters of water with aeration. They were still alive in the morning, and we'll see what happens next.

Mary

Didn’t understand what will fly? Pumps or timers? If it’s the pumps, then there’s nothing to worry about. Or is there? I have low-power pumps, so there’s no field slipping and, accordingly, no cracking when they turn on. But I understood that only the "Chinese" have problems with starting. How does the Tunze wave controller work with pumps? There’s constant start-stop there. And it’s impossible to make a smooth start on the pumps. P.S.: I replaced the RH-500 with an Aquael fountain pump of 650 l/h yesterday - it became much quieter. And on the 500, the impeller turned out to be poorly pressed.

Jade

The controller is 12V and the pumps are 12V as well, but it seems to be a different plan. Although maybe I should ask Reya-Plataks, he definitely knows.

Elizabeth

The conversation turned to regular pumps on a timer - they work for 15 minutes and rest for 7 minutes. It seemed to have been mentioned on the AL forum that in this mode, rotary heads wear out quickly.

Adam4310

Here are some photos of the aquarium: General view, shrimp, mussels

Kristen2246

This is a very serious drug; soon you will move on to the real sea.

Jessica5016

Yes, I have seen such information too, but I have no personal experience. As far as I understand, in such a mode, the rotor and hub landing spots just quickly wear out; moreover, larger pumps are quite noisy during startup and sometimes simply do not start with such frequent starts and stops. As for wave boxes or controllers where pumps operate in a start-stop mode, these are again electronic TUNZE pumps, which turn on and off using electronics; special modes have been developed for this, which is why they work reliably. In general, there is a lot of information on this topic on the AL forum right here.

Anne

Yeah, if only someone would donate some money...

Tonya

In my opinion, no attachments for flow are needed in a small jar; pumps handle the task of eliminating stagnant areas perfectly. Here is an example of my small aquarium set up in November 2005, without a skimmer, just two small pumps and crushed shell as substrate. By the way, the wire visible in the photo is titanium wire 5mm, purchased at the market for 5 per meter in the welding supplies section. It has been in seawater for two months and is not rusting at all.

Daniel

How lovely! Thank you, Ray! The little duck will be a great incentive to take a vacation!

Debra8438

Thank you, that is my task for next summer.

Jade

Nitrite is indeed very toxic, but it could spike due to dead bodies or after feeding. You can ignore it - it doesn't accumulate but converts to nitrates, and nitrates need to be measured and reduced through water changes. The Tetra test for the sea is not very good, as it has a very large scale range. We don't know about the sulfur, but JBL is good - nitrate starts at 1 and then goes to 5, 10. Check the scale on the test; the smaller the increments, the better. Regular salad, we have 2 zebrasomas that eat a whole leaf in a day, no need to cook it - just weigh it down and that's it.

Alyssa1438

Where else can I get it...? Do you have any? Can I use spirulina fish feed, or have you not tried it? I don't have fish, but I have plenty of crustaceans.

Mark9853

The Serov test is terrible. You can feed them with spirulina fish food; mine gobble it up. It's better to cool with a fan—it's more effective and stable.

Stephanie3084

We don't have it, we took it from a. We tried the food - they don't eat it yet, we need to get them used to it, but they eat the salad right away.

Jessica5016

From the tests, I realized that for now I'll just ignore it and see what happens with the nitrite. I tried cooling with a fan - it works well, but the evaporation is quite significant, which is too much for 16 liters. I already lose about half a liter a week.

Andrew9246

I have about 4 liters evaporating per day.

Veronica

We have 300 liters per day, and 5 liters are disappearing somewhere, which is about 1.7%, so you can freely lose 270 ml per day, which is almost 2 liters per week.

Darrell5975

With coolers, I lose up to 8 liters a day. Without coolers, the evaporation was insignificant. But what to do, the temperature needs to be maintained somehow. "From the tests, I understood - for now, I'll hold off and see what happens with the nitrite." I didn't understand you... Did you have a problem with the purchase? Write to us - we will help...

Stefanie9771

Nafal, hello! It would be very interesting to read a description of the sea in the place of animal catching: the state of the sea, sand or rocks, what type of rocks, what seaweed grows, what interesting things were found, how the animals were caught and brought in, etc. Thank you in advance. Best regards.

Angela6489

Yes, for example, how to catch a fish-dog?

Jennifer5371

With a large net

Joseph

Amazing!!!

Cheryl9296

I urgently need to go on vacation!!!!!

Stephanie3084

I wish you calm seas and good hunting. Join the Black Sea people! Best regards.

Sarah

Nafal, hello! How is the aquarium doing, especially the condition of the algae? Best regards.

Stephen

Here are some more photos of the aquarium inhabitants. Not quite new, but I couldn't post them earlier. Hermit crab Unknown "plant" and a colony of bryozoans Anemone And a video of Jellyfish (1.4MB)

Jeffrey6189

Does your anemone also live upside down and in hiding? Can it be trained out of this? I have the same one as you... I'm tired of fighting with it - only in the shade and upside down... but their appetite is excellent!

John

I measured nitrate and phosphate today - I was surprised. NO3- 10 mg/L PO4- 0 mg/L JBL tests. I wonder where it all goes? As a possibility, I can only assume that everything is going away with the cleaning of the cyano. Over the past three weeks, I have been scrubbing the cyano off the rocks with a toothbrush without being too fanatical. The last time, three days after that, the stones in the middle under the lamps were densely covered with algae (like Vietnamese, but longer), and within a week, everything was covered with cyano again.

Breanna9982

A couple of weeks ago, I was brought some seaweed from the sea. I attached some to suction cups, and the rest I tied with threads to the shells of the rapanas.

William

Recently, a little worm like this was discovered. If I brought it, it was much smaller. Can anyone identify it? The aquarium itself looks like this. The cyano is very picturesque.

Holly

Hello Igor! I have had many such worms come to me, but they almost immediately get eaten; I don't know their name. Can you tell me what that fluffy thing is on the stone to the left, and where are the mollies? Best regards.

Kimberly4253

Hello Igor! I feel like something is deeply wrong in the aquarium because the indestructible creatures and the persistent cyanobacteria say something. Maybe the substrate is leaching? Try to siphon it thoroughly, and I would actually remove it entirely and add some rocks. If you decide to restart, you can take all the water from me. Also, I think there are too many pumps; one with a nozzle would be more than enough (I can lend you one to try). Best regards. P.S. We also need to check the pumps inside; there might be a lot of rust.

Jeffrey496

The link is dead, there is really nonsense there now, but there was a magnificent book by Vershinin "The Life of the Black Sea." I have it saved on my computer. In general, this is a bristle worm of the genus Nereis or Glyceridae, they say it is almost harmless. Crustaceans cannot tolerate metal ions, so check the pumps. Best regards.

Caitlin3279

Looks like I found it: I'll check, but the shrimp are alive, and the second one (the stone one) is too, it even molted again recently.

Joseph8592

Here, perhaps, is the stone and the reason for the short life of the long-legged. Best regards.

John3165

How is that possible? If there were no visible injuries? I have him in alcohol right now, I can show you. I still lean towards the poisoning option. Could he have, for example, ingested cyanide? And are they poisonous?

Jessica8898

Yes, I could have, pressed it somewhere, for example, in the front part, the shell held up, but inside... My late hairy-legged one dealt with the younger sibling that had grown up. Best regards.

Julie

Maybe, although the stone is about one and a half times smaller.

John3432

Hello everyone! Here is the address this is the official website of the Marine Environmental Education program Living Black Sea, created based on excerpts from the book Life of the Black Sea (A. Vershinin, 2003). The book is almost entirely available on this site, and the navigation is very well organized, much better than it was on the previous site, which is no longer operational.... This is the best information about the Black Sea, highly recommended for anyone interested in Black Sea inhabitants....

Ryan2281

It's a pity that only fragments are available. Here's another book.

Alicia5489

It would be interesting to know how your sea is doing now.

John5528

Please, help with advice! I brought back from the Black Sea actinia, stones, and hermit crabs in a barrel... managed to transport them... They are all in 60 liters. There is a regular filter, a daylight lamp, and an incandescent bulb. The water has evaporated by 5 mm from the initial mark. Also, there are extra hermit crabs! A lot. I will gladly exchange them for something. How to prepare the water? I can buy ready-made water, and then what part should I change? Friends, help! I really need any constructive criticism. Thank you in advance to everyone!

Wesley

Add distilled water to bring it back to the previous level and stop torturing the animals - transplant them into something larger. What filter is in place? Manufacturer, is there an air intake, and how do you plan to keep the invertebrates stable without a foam separator?

Joseph8842

Do you still have extra hermits?

Michelle9986

Actinides can be fed frozen marine fish, squid, mussels, and shrimp; personally, I feed all my pets fish. You need to place a piece of fish in its tentacles, and it will eat it. You can feed it 2-3 times a week.

Melissa3200

You probably won't get a response. The topic has been frozen since your last post on August 13, 2007, at 19:13. And it's unlikely they'll send anything from St. Petersburg. Wait for the summer, and then all your wishes will be fulfilled faster.

Monique1236

I didn't check right away which city it was from. I wish summer would come soon; I'm going to Tarkhankut and will catch some fish. I just want to get some live creatures now, as I have a 26-liter jar, and the only live creature I have is an anemone (1 cm in diameter). I would like my aquarium to be livelier.

Crystal

Well, I understand you have a Black Sea aquarium, right? So you'll definitely have to wait until summer. Tarkhankut is great, an ecologically clean place, for now.

Michelle1662

Off-topic. Exactly, for now... Every year the situation there gets worse and worse. Even during Yushchenko's time, there was a project to create a reserve there, but it just stalled.
