A 40*40*40 aquarium with a built-in sump is planned. The width of the sump is 15 cm. Drain, algae, return. Question: how is it better to divide the compartments? In which compartment is it better to place the protein skimmer? What power should the return pump be?

One more question: is it better to take a return pump with a capacity of 1100 or 700 l/h?

I initially had the same one. It's hard to maintain the temperature. It's better to get one with 1100 l/h; you won't need to squeeze in a flow pump - that's one less electrical device.

Please advise at what height from the bottom or top to make the outlet hole from the sump?

The lower part is about 5 centimeters from the bottom, some fish like to dig in the substrate. The upper part is 1 cm below the water line. It can be higher - there will be a waterfall, noise, and bubbles. At the end of the pipe, I installed a water flow silencer.

That is, the drain is 1 cm below the level, and the return pump is 5 cm above the bottom?

The sump is divided into 3 compartments. In the first one, at the top, there is a comb, and at the bottom, about 5 cm from the bottom, there is another lower inlet. Here, a foam filter, a heater, and a diffuser are placed. In the middle compartment, there are fillers and grass on top. The third compartment is the outlet; it can be without it, and the tube will bend. Fillers, a thermometer, and a pump are located here.

The outlet in the third compartment. It's more beautiful with it - but it's more practical without it at all.

How to cover the hole at the bottom? More specifically, how to make sure no one swims in there? What diameter do you recommend?
