Hello! I am very interested in a marine aquarium. To start, I want to try a small volume. The only thing I can't decide on is the aquarium. Should I get a ready-made option like the BOYU TL550 or order a custom aquarium, sump, and equipment separately? What does everyone think?

John5528

If you decide on a Boyu 550, I can suggest where to get it for 2000. As for the main question: if you want to try to stay within 10,000, go for the Boyu (I've already exceeded that amount with mine), if you have a bigger budget, go for something larger. I'm currently working on a 600-liter setup. I've already spent about 17,000, and there's still more to go before launching... For a small aquarium, the Boyu is just what you need!

Mark9853

Thank you for the advice! I am more interested in the filling of the BOYU. Will it perform its task and how reliable is it?

Kendra2262

What to deal with? What task? If it's a reef, with photosynthetic organisms, small actinias, or some clowns, then it would be quite fine, why not? I've only read positive reviews about Boyu. My friend bought a Red Sea Max 130, which costs several times more. His words were, "I should have bought Boyu." The only drawback of the 550 is the weak light. But it can be easily and cheaply fixed. My aquarium is in the office in Levoberezhka. You can come by and take a look.

Randy

+100. Even SPS can be kept and they will be colorful and show good growth dynamics. In both my 550 and 450, all SPS and LPS look great. BUT - THE LIGHT must be changed MANDATORILY! Off-topic: Replacing the light costs around 100 USD.

Brent5588

great marine aquarium of good quality, reliable, I had one like this, you can read about it

I won't hide that I've heard negative reviews about the fights in terms of how difficult it is to achieve balance, etc. I just launched this unit, and yes, it needs a bit more light, but I'm satisfied with everything else. The foam generator is working, the pump is pumping, the thermometer is heating, and the coolers are cooling. Achieving balance is all in our hands.

Marie5735

It's unclear what balance you are talking about... I see no obstacles to maintaining a balanced sea at such a volume. If you're not too lazy to do it, but if you are lazy, then you won't be able to maintain it even in a large aquarium.

Julie

About the bio balance, there are no obstacles, but there are ways to achieve it. For example, I have aquariums of a size that serves as a stumbling block, starting from 400 liters, which thrive with proper setup and normal equipment. However, smaller volumes require constant monitoring, which is a bit stressful.

Chad4168

A small volume simply requires a bit more attention than a large one.

Jose

Open a topic about your mini aquarium. It will be interesting to read. In this case, there is nothing for the little one to be ashamed of.

Jennifer5784

I think it's better to go for BOYU if you want to try it out. If you're not completely sure and don't want to spend too much, buy an aquarium of about 50x30x30 (approximately 150), a small pump (around 300), and the Aquael Decolight Duo in Black 2x11 W (320). In total, that's 770. In my opinion, making a small aquarium with a sump is a bit of a perversion.

Daniel

I have a question: should I take a ready-made option, like the BOYU, or should I assemble a system from components, but a bit larger - for example, aiming for an aquarium of 1000-1100mm by 500mm by 500-600mm (height).

Megan

This is already a volume of 110cm x 50 x 60 = 330 liters, beautiful, there is space for corals and fish, the choice is right. I started with 250 liters, it lasted me a year and then I restarted with 400 liters.

Frederick

What height would you recommend - 50 or 60 cm?

Brent5588

I would be assembling a proper system that you described, not a BOYU, and regarding the height, it's a matter of personal preference, whatever someone likes... I actually have a tank that is 1500x550x400 (height), although before that, I had a tank that was 800x550x600 (height).

Larry

There is a significant difference in cost between launching a Boyu and setting up a 300-liter aquarium.

Danielle9144

I agree, in monetary terms, it's five times more expensive, and you also need to accommodate more livestock, so the financial costs are higher.

Barbara8192

I would like help deciding on the dimensions of the aquarium (width and height): the width can be 100-110 cm, but I haven't decided which one to choose yet. The height can be 50 or 60 cm - on one hand, 60 cm seems better in terms of space for activities, but on the other hand, I understand that a more powerful light is needed to penetrate the water column. Please advise on which dimensions would be better. Also, will a sump measuring 80x40x40 cm be sufficient for this aquarium? What should the sump generally be - 1/2 the volume of the aquarium, 2/3, or something else?

Brooke3987

I would set up an aquarium measuring 110cm x 55cm x 55cm, or if space allows, 120cm x 60cm x 60cm. Both sizes are perfect for T5 lamps.

Earl

120cm x 60cm x 60cm is a convenient size. I have a width of 40cm, so there is not much free space in front of the stones (almost none). And T5 with 54W fixtures fit perfectly. 8 pieces of 54W will fit in the dimensions of 120cm x 60cm x 60cm.

Omar3497

Excuse me, what is this? I didn't quite understand.

Shelby3182

Here I meant to say: to glue a triangle to the bottom of the box and use this same box as a shaft for placing the drain and return pipes.

Catherine

Do you want to do it this way?

Stefanie9771

Yes. Either that, or stick a Durso pocket with a comb on the tunnel wall.

Thomas5021

I understand that there are no holes in the bottom?

Jeremy8404

As I mentioned earlier, the hole is through. That is, the bottom has been cut out according to the dimensions of the triangular shaft. This is the question - what to do with it. Drilling holes in the glass would take 5 minutes. If only there was something to drill with.

Bonnie

Got it, now it's clear, the pros will join in and give some advice.

Amy1672

Good afternoon. Do you still know where I can get 550 Baya at a reasonable price? Thank you.

Michelle1505

Contact Sergey () I got my new one from him. He had both used and new ones.

Paul

Take an average aquarium of 200 liters plus 50 in the sump right away; it will be difficult to "train" with a smaller one since the parameters fluctuate, which is critical for marine setups. With an average aquarium, you can already implement interesting solutions.
