Super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joseph591
A very primitive but important question. How much does all this cost and how much money is spent on maintaining the water body each month? I'm interested in this for myself. After all, I need to budget my expenses.
Susan1358
Hello, Rey!
I am very glad to see your aquarium on the forum, I wish it prosperity and a lot of little apogons.
I have wanted to ask for a long time what material the aquarium is made of and what is used to clean the front glass.
Best regards.
Joseph6461
Great! Could you please tell me where to buy argonite sand in Moscow?
Matthew7977
Hello, good day!
I am a beginner and my question is which foam separator I should buy? I have a 450-liter aquarium. I previously purchased an EHEIM 2329 and thought that was the end of it... But I was deeply mistaken. Now I'm wondering where to put it =).
I would be very grateful for your response.
Melinda
Hello!
Thank you for the feedback.
I bought sand here:
However, Shumov has stopped delivering sand in buckets due to low demand for large packaging and switched to delivering bags weighing 14 kg. The price is 38.40 EURO.
This is certainly a bit more expensive than in buckets, but still.
Brian
Thank you for your response. I understand that the expenses for the sea are phased. I can't manage it any other way. But still, it adds up to a very round amount. Moreover, there are 30 evergreen plants each month, which is not cheap. I need to strive to earn more.
I have another question: how long can you leave the sea unattended? I know for sure that I can leave my herb garden for 2-3 weeks on timers, and there won't be any losses. I can reduce the light and lower the temperature.
Breanna9982
Good day!
Thank you very much for the detailed response.
What do you think about the Tunze Classic DOC Skimmer 9205 and the Tunze Comline DOC Skimmer 9005? They are 40 EUR cheaper.
Thank you in advance!
Debra8438
I haven't encountered these skimmers myself, but I've heard good reviews from a person I respect, so I think it's a good option as well. However, I won't hide the fact that the Tunze 230/3 skimmer honestly disappointed me, and that's why I'm now very cautious about all models from this company. If I were choosing now, I wouldn't skimp and would go for H&S or Deltec.
Rita
Good day!
Thank you once again for the consultation. Based on it, I made my choice. A couple of questions have come up. First, I once brought sand from the Black Sea (it's like fine gravel) and I like it, but as I understand it, it's not suitable for a marine aquarium? And second, what should I acquire next to set up the aquarium? It should be allowed to settle for a long time, right? I already have the aquarium for the bioreactor and the pump for it.
Thank you in advance.
Kimberly
My aquatic life feels fine with the Black Sea substrate and water. The only thing is that the density has increased due to evaporation.
Jessica9188
Ray, why did you choose this particular flow pump? What captivated you about it?
Eric8832
Greetings everyone!
Here is my article on raising fry of the Tülevy apogon.
Take a look, I think it will be interesting.
Devon107
Hello, Rey!
I want to express my admiration for the current state of your aquarium. The combination of green macroalgae and corals is very beautiful, and the fish are well-kept and lovely. I say this after reading the forum, as I unfortunately don't have the technical means to watch the videos.
I wish your aquarium continued prosperity.
Best regards.
John3142
Hello!
Thank you very much for the kind words; it's always nice when the fruits of your labor are appreciated by people. Unfortunately, I can't upload new photos here, as my limit has long been exhausted, and I really don't want to redo all the pictures. When I have the opportunity, I will start posting photos on this forum as well. For now, I'm only sharing a link to my topic on the AL forum for those who haven't seen the latest photos of my aquarium.
Amanda
Is the brown coating on the glass supposed to be like that? And what about the dark and green spots in the thickness of the soil?
Jason5071
Hello!
The film on the glass is caused by lower algae; of course, it can be scraped off, but I'm too lazy to do it. It also justifies me that zebras eat this algae.
The dark spots are actually not in the substrate but on the glass; they are also algae. A lot of light falls on the windshield, which is why algae grow there. It's not a big deal, and it's impossible to remove them without taking out the substrate.
In principle, I could just cover that part of the aquarium with a trim, but it doesn't bother me. Moreover, it allows me to see the condition of the substrate.
Diana3118
Is such a film typical for a marine aquarium, or can it be dealt with?
Anthony7814
Of course, it can be easily scraped off the glass, I'm just too lazy. By the way, depending on the situation in the aquarium, the growths can have different colors, or there may be none at all, but that only happens when the system is very mature and the load is well balanced. I think that over time, the growth of algae on my glass will gradually decrease and they will clean themselves. Snails like nerites eat this kind of film very well, but I have very few of them, they are expensive (250 rubles - 1 piece), and I need about twenty or thirty for my aquarium.
Tasha
clear, thank you.
Ashley5975
Greetings everyone!!!
I recently took a new batch of photos, the state of the aquarium at the beginning of May, and I'm posting a couple of new photos showing the overall view of the aquarium and how it looks in the room.
To save space, I am not transferring the photos to this server; you can view the rest of the photos here.
Natalie
Hello! What is the name of your caulerpa? Is it the hammer type? Does the zebrasoma eat it a lot?
Noah1632
Hello!!!
This is the berry (grape) caulerpa - Caulerpa racemosa.
Zebras initially destroyed it, and for a long time I couldn't grow it in the aquarium, but eventually caulerpa started to grow among the thickets of halimeda, where the zebras couldn't reach it, and managed to establish itself in the aquarium. Now the zebras eat it very little, probably because they have had enough...
Rebecca1419
Greetings everyone!
A very unfortunate event has occurred on the forum; such people should be dealt with harshly.
Unfortunately, I do not have copies of my own topic, so I cannot restore it.
The forum information from May 31, 2006, to July 24, 2006, has been lost.
Chronology of events over the past time:
June 10, 2006
The aquarium is stable; among the acquisitions is a school of Antias...
and another coral
Sinularia Dura
And here is one that grew from the rock by itself; presumably, it is Capnella.
And a few more photos...
Andrew9581
11.06.06 - Here is the latest addition
Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus)!!!
To my great joy, he immediately started eating my main food, which I prepare for all the fish...!!!!
Amy5070
13.06.06 - Continuing on the topic.
Zankl has fully settled in and swims as if he has always lived here.
He feeds directly from the pipette, like all the old-timers.
The aquarium looks simply great with him in it.
Shane

Hey, hi!
I couldn't resist and downloaded a video. It's very beautiful, the natural flow is amazing, the pumps are completely invisible, I didn't even realize where they are. It's surprising that such a flow is created by just one variable pump.
I wish the aquarium continued to thrive.
Best regards.
Judy
Hello everyone!!!
A week ago, I bought three little chromis, very amusing fish.
The most interesting thing happened today; my wife and I discovered that the chromis showed a huge interest in Helmon, swimming up to him and rubbing their bellies against him, and he really enjoys it. Now he has frozen in one spot and is presenting himself to the chromis, what a joy!
Vanessa6144
Helmon is plump and well-fed - good... Our one is also on the mend, but he still has a long way to go.
Sarah
I try, Helmon is the most difficult fish to feed in my aquarium, so I watch it very closely and feed it purposefully.
Nancy
Greetings everyone!!!
The aquarium, thank God and thanks to your kind wishes, is doing quite well.
I have accumulated many photos, and I decided to share some of them.
Rebecca
I think I'll get one for myself too, could you tell me more about how you feed it? I didn't notice any fan worms in your photos, do you not have them? Why? Are the fish nibbling?
James1625
How are his relationships with the bicolor centropyge and the centrus melanocbirus? Will the clowns chase him?
Charles4157
I forgot to mention the fan worms.
I don't have them right now.
I had them before the aquarium was remodeled, but the fish nibble on them, not just the Helmon, but also the Centropyge... In general, I don't like them enough to choose between fish or worms... I've decided not to keep them anymore.
Helmon snaps at the small fan worms where it can reach, but there are quite a few in the rocks, since even though Helmon has a long snout, it still can't reach everywhere...
Heather2018
It's a pity for the apogon. And how is its offspring doing?
Lindsey3362
They left for another owner in the summer when they were 6 months old... I couldn't keep them because the female reacted very aggressively to the young kids... I had to give them away, which is a pity...
Katherine
I also want to introduce Zankl or Heniocorus, but I've heard that they like to nibble on corals (especially Sinularia). What do you think?
Crystal4879
so for now we will stop at Heniochus
James5103
Greetings everyone!
I have a new addition!!!
Recently, there was a very good shipment from South America to my marine aquarium, and I acquired a flame angel - Centropyge loriculus.
It's a really beautiful fish, and even if it bites the zoanthids, I'm ready to accept that.
Elizabeth882
Congratulations!
Getting into a magazine is cool.
How did it happen?

Yes, it is very nice when your work is appreciated. Thank you, Fedor!!!
Nicole7268
Greetings everyone!
Once again, a BIG THANK YOU to all!!!
It just so happened that at the time of this pleasant event for me, a photo session of the main subject of this topic, the aquarium itself, was conducted.
I decided to share the photos that I prepared for the forum.
Let this be a photo report on the current state of the aquarium.
Elizabeth6302
Well done!!! And the aquarium is beautiful!!!
Thomas
I am very glad that my creation is liked by people! Thank you!!!
Susan9583
Allow me to join in with congratulations and good envy.
Jeffrey
Thank you, Maxim!
Ryan7682
Hi Ray,
How is Zankl doing?
Rachel9060
Hello! Zankl is doing well and his appetite is excellent; there's a saying - "eats like a horse" - and that's about him... Today, the sunlight was shining on the aquarium, so I decided to take some photos.
Tammy
YES!!!
This is definitely SUPER!!! I have no words!!!
Sincere, sincere congratulations!!!
Everything is alive, everything is growing!!!
This is great!!! I haven't encountered this topic before, unfortunately.
Just be healthy and good luck to you!!!
Cindy
Glory, thank you for the kind words!
Michael
I am quite far from the sea, but I will never tire of being amazed by such wonders.
Incredibly beautiful! Thank you.
Phyllis
Thank you for the kind words, it is very uplifting when people who are far from the marine aquarium write such posts...
Sharon
Your patience is to be envied; the aquarium is 100% perfect.
Robin
Igor, thank you!
...Patience and hard work will overcome everything... - a folk wisdom!!!
In general, such a character trait as patience is VERY important for a true marine aquarist...
Joseph1346
Hello, Ray!
As you mentioned, you have caulerpa growing in your refugium.
But it sometimes reproduces sexually.
How do you deal with that?
Thank you!
John
Here's another question. In the photo of your setup, it can be seen that the water coming from the aquarium first goes through the algae filter, and then into the protein skimmer and another compartment. Is this sequence fundamentally important? Or can it be like this: protein skimmer - algae - return pump? Thank you!
Diana7891
The sea is amazing! Your hard work and patience are invaluable! Looking at this, there is something to strive for.
Frank7213
Hey, hi! I logged onto the forum and saw familiar usernames everywhere, almost like family. I looked through all the topics in this section and came to the conclusion that your aquarium is probably the best again, so I'll be visiting here more often.
Jennifer7578
Thank you, I am very glad that my aquarium inspires other people!!!
Ricky9405
Hello, nice to see you on this forum. Thank you for the high praise of my aquarium!!!
Michelle5859
Hello, Ray!
Could you please tell me why the light in your algae filter is on 24/7, instead of, say, having a 2-hour break during the day or turning off while the main aquarium lights are on?
Thank you!
Jeremy
Hello Slava!
I have the light in the aquarium on around the clock, primarily because the sexual reproduction of caulerpa usually occurs right after the light is turned on, that is, when transitioning from darkness to light.
However, the lighting regime in the aquarium is not uniform - at night the light is significantly weaker, but this is mainly because the aquarium is in a room where we sleep, and I reduce the lighting at night to avoid illuminating the room too much, as the cladding has gaps through which light seeps into the room...
Stacy6866
Greetings everyone!
I tried to take a photo in the evening light, and here’s what I got. It's certainly not moonlight, but still an unusual light.
Julie3950
It is very nice to see a professional approach.
Cynthia
Thank you, Igor! Although I am not a "pro" in the strict sense of the word and do not make money from a marine aquarium, it is purely a hobby for me.
Kathy
Greetings everyone!
Recently, new animals were acquired, here is a brief report on the aquarium.
Ricordea (RICORDEA YUMA) hasn't fully settled yet, but I took a photo as it is.
Another acquisition - the Caulastrea has fluffed up quickly.
Overall, everything is fine in the aquarium, the Znkl is doing well, very curious but serious.
It continues to be friends with the shrimp.
Todd
Hello, Ray!
Very beautiful and, most importantly, the system is stable.
In which there is a layer of coarse aragonite sand covering the bottom area.
This is not fine aragonite sand, but coral rubble, i.e., what layer of it is in the sump?
John828
Ray and my CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Indeed, I have no words, it's beautiful! There is something to strive for!
Melissa1838
Ray, hello!
I join in the congratulations, the aquarium is magnificent.
I have long wanted to ask you to share your thoughts on water changes; I think others would find it interesting as well.
Best regards.
Shane
Congratulations, Ray! If there were a "Aquarium of the Year" rating, I think you would be the best! I had a great time admiring your magnificent aquarium. Thank you!
Derek7322
Anemones just sit there! Knock on wood. How did you manage to keep them from crawling? I got sucked into the pump three times, and the fourth time was the last.
Susan
George5104
Thank you, I am very glad that my aquarium evokes such emotions!!!
Jeffrey2277
Hello!!! Thank you for such a high appreciation of my aquarium.
George5104
It is hard to explain, anemones are very unruly animals, and if they dislike something, they will change their place of residence regardless of any persuasion.
Todd
What kind of interesting grass is growing in the samp? It doesn't look like a caulerpa.
Jacob7201
This is also a small species of Caulerpa, Caulerpa brachypus.
Gabrielle5053
Greetings everyone!!!
On Saturday, April 7, 2007, two gobies were purchased, they have adapted well and have already started performing their direct duties - cleaning the fish, although the fish are still a bit suspicious of them.
One of them has settled under a mushroom.
Here is another acquisition, or rather a gift from Kolya (Sleepy), for which I am very grateful to him.
Gorgonia (diodogorgia nodulia) with very beautiful white polyps, it is not a photosynthetic organism, so I don't yet know how it will survive. I have had it for almost two weeks, and so far it is feeling good.
David3217
At home this autumn-winter-spring season, it is very hot, resulting in a very high temperature in the aquarium, which has led to partial loss of zooxanthellae and bleaching of the anemones.
To combat the heat, some changes were made to the system, specifically the removal of the second Tunze 230/3 skimmer and raising the light higher.
As a result, the temperature has stabilized within 26°C-27°C, and there is now space for growing algae.
The sump currently looks like this:
Jonathon8514
Last weekend, I got a couple more anthias (Pseudanthias dispar), and I really liked them. They just don't want to be photographed and hide in the rocks, but I managed to take a photo anyway.
Christina9947
Last weekend, I took some photos of the aquarium, and I think this one turned out really beautiful, so I decided to share it.
Michael3221
Wow... I look at your aquarium photos (it's just amazing) and then at my own aquarium. There's something to strive for. I take my hat off to you...
Adrienne
Thank you!!!
Here are more photos of the new anti-aces, now they don't run away and pose calmly.
...and also more photos of the central part of the aquarium.
And a few more photos...
Daniel
Hey, is there any difficulty in feeding the anti-asses?
Sarah7284
Are there any specific features for keeping gorgonians, such as light, food, how and how often to feed them, and what kind of water flow is needed? I saw them in the store but for some reason didn't buy them.
Eric
Gorgonians love light and current, but not too strong, so it doesn't bend the branches. Before the appearance of diodogorgia nodulia in my aquarium, I didn't specifically feed the gorgonians; it was enough that their zooxanthellae provided for them and they received some food from the fish feeding. However, when the bushes grew large, a problem arose: the branches in the shade began to wither, clearly lacking food. Now I started feeding them with this food: GroTech plankton. My old gorgonians are very satisfied, and the withering branches have started to grow again. As for diodogorgia nodulia, there are still no changes; no progress is visible, but there is also no deterioration for now.
Rachel9060
Hello, Ray!
I want to buy a Helmon, what do you think? Besides Aptasia, can it also eat sponges, clove polyps, feather worms, and nibble on various zoanthids? I have a yellow Parazoanthus, yellow polyps, and will it eat it?
Joshua
Here are a few more new photos. Well, that's probably enough...
Robert800
I saw you kept the Blue Ptereleotris (Ptereleotris evides) and how this fish behaves in captivity. I once got one, but it jumped out of the aquarium three times in one day; I managed to return it twice, but on the third time... I want to get about 6-8 small ones for a school, but if they like to jump...
Patricia1746
Sure, if you could provide more details about the filtration system in your aquarium. As far as I understand, it includes a skimmer, live rocks, deep sand bed, and an algae filter. Or did I miss something?
Jennifer9100
Eric5208
Hello, Ray!
Do you use antifos and traces? If so, which ones?
It seems you don't have a calcium reactor - how do you add Ca?
Thank you.
Amanda5586
Are you using any KN buffer for stabilizing KN?
Jeffery7866
No, I used to add chalk, but now I have stopped doing that as well. I think the presence of aragonite sand creates a sufficient buffer due to the partial dissolution of the sand.
Daniel132
What is it and how?
Steven757
At what level is the KN maintained in the system?
Lynn4242
You never kept hard corals, or did you come to keep soft ones over the years, like freshwater enthusiasts usually return to guppies?
Vanessa6144
If you look at my topic on the AL forum from the very beginning, right here: you will see that I had hard LPS corals.
Honestly, I am not thrilled with them and intentionally gave them up. I have never kept SPS corals and do not plan to; I am more attracted to corals that sway under the influence of the current in the aquarium.
Natasha7622
Greetings everyone!
Today marks exactly one year since the Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus) has been living in my aquarium.
Here is how he looked a year ago.
And this is how he looks now; as you can see, he has matured over this time.
The first milestone has been reached, and I really hope there will be many more.
On this occasion, I am sharing fresh photos of the celebrant.
Raven7170
Congratulations on your anniversary!
Wishing him many long years of life!
David7773
Handsome!! Congratulations, Ray!

I join in the congratulations. Many years to the jubilarian.
Catherine6534
Thank you for the wishes!
Justin
The fish is amazing... my congratulations.
Joshua9847
Thank you!
Randall7906
I read your topic with great pleasure (I still have half to savor). Good luck in your endeavors and health to the inhabitants! Thank you very much for the information and especially for the enjoyment provided by viewing the photos of your wonderful aquarium.
Omar3497
Thank you very much for such warm words!!!
Tracey
Greetings everyone!
Life is moving forward, the aquarium has recovered from the unforeseen situation related to Helmon's death, all the corals and fish are doing well...
Recently, I was asked to take a photo of the aquarium to show how it looks in the room, so I decided to share these pictures, maybe someone will find them interesting.
View from the entrance door, the door frame is even visible.
Closer...
Even closer...
In this photo, my humble self has also been added to the aquarium...
Christine
Greetings everyone!!!
A little about the aquarium.
Recently, the red ricordean had a baby...
The aquarium itself is doing well, here are a few more photos...
Julie4738
Very beautiful aquarium, it takes your breath away!!! How much patience and experience one must have. In my opinion, it is made very professionally!!!
Nancy758
Thank you ...
Monique1236
Hello everyone!
I finally bought some sand to add to the aquarium, as the layer is decreasing right before my eyes...
I added a couple of centimeters, surprisingly it took more than I expected, about 5-6 kg.
The sand is very good, though expensive...
The aquarium surprisingly handled the addition of sand easily, and the sand itself "came to life" just as quickly...
The sand residents seem to like the sand...
And it seems like everyone else does too...
Tracey
I finally managed to take a photo of Zankl at the shrimp-tora's reception.
Zankl really loves this shrimp and constantly hangs out with it, but I could never get a decent photo...
Michelle
Hello everyone!
I recently bought a new camera, the PANASONIC Lumix DMC-FZ50.
I am currently learning to take pictures of my aquarium; it's a bit more challenging than with my old Olympus.
Here is the first decent photo.
Brent7831
Congratulations on the new outfit. The new photo is, as always, top-notch.
Andrea8397
It would be good to remove the excess light sand, but overall it's quite nice.
Michelle13
Yes, overexposure is a problem, the sand glistens, but I hope to learn how to take higher quality photos...
Emily3144
Thank you...
Jennifer5371
Thank you as well. I would like more close-ups for a quicker immersion in the maritime business.
Brandon4517
Then a few more close-ups...
Teresa
More photos:
Eric
Very well, thank you.
Corey3201
Greetings everyone!
Everything seems fine in the aquarium, but I can note the loss of the shrimp-tora two days after the incident... perhaps I gave too much iodine and caused premature molting in the shrimp. I had noticed earlier that shrimp-tora are particularly sensitive to fluctuations in iodine levels in the aquarium...
Aiptasia have started to raise their heads, so on September 1st, I bought Helmon again...
Selena4467
Hello everyone!
I'm continuing to get used to my new camera...
James5103
A couple more new photos...
Bethany
Hello everyone!
I'm continuing to learn how to use the camera, here are a few more photos.

Greetings everyone!
I had another photo session, and I finally managed to take wide shots of the aquarium with my new camera.
David
You are just great!!! The aquarium is simply awesome!!! By the way, congratulations on your recent birthday, from me and all the forum participants. I wish you and your aquarium health and prosperity.
Best regards, Slavic.
Melinda
Thank you, Slava, for the warm words and congratulations! Here are a few more photos...

Thank you ...
Javier5186
The aquarium is just super
Success
You and your aquarium are super
Denise
Thank you very much, it's always nice when people appreciate the fruits of your labor.
Michael
Hello Andrey. I recently registered and found your messages. The registration date is quite old - do you still visit the forum? Maxim.
Debra6575
Ray, greetings! Are you still visiting the forum? A recently registered novice. Maxim.
James
Hi Maxim!!! Of course, I visit and I'm not going anywhere...
William
Thank you, Ray, for your response. You mentioned something about water replacement, and it seemed quite insignificant to me. How often and in what volume should this process occur? I would also like to know about the coal; is it really used constantly? What type is it? Thank you. Maxim.
Christopher1774
Water changes are minimal, mainly caused by water loss due to the skimmer operating in foam mode and the need to take water for various purposes. It amounts to about 5 liters every two weeks (sometimes even less), and no other water changes are made. The use of carbon is also minimal, about 100 ml, and it is replaced every 3-4 weeks. Any type of carbon available (Tunze, Aqua Medic, Hagen, etc.) can be used. Overall, nothing has changed...
Leonard
Good person, I greet you! Thank you for your response. I would also like to know, is 100 ml of carbon calculated for any aquarium volume or not? And where does it go, in the filter or in the sump under the drain pipe? Is it placed in a bag? After 4 weeks, is the carbon replaced with a new one or depending on the water condition? I am very grateful. You have a great aquarium!
Amy
I decided to share some photos:
Overall, everything is fine in the aquarium, but the Zankl has started to act up a bit, biting the big shark... The sly one knows that I will forgive him everything...
Steven
Oh... BEAUTY!!!
Andrea9320
Super... what camera are you using to take photos?
James1625
If I remember correctly, it's the PANASONIC Lumix DMC-FZ50. If that's the case, sorry for answering for you. I was just reading the topic and I remember about the camera; I'm considering it for myself.
Samuel6138
Thank you! You answered correctly; it's clear that you read my topic carefully.
Alejandro
Insanely beautiful (set it as wallpaper on my desktop)
Katie5500
It is very pleasant to receive such feedback about my creation...
Tiffany5069
Greetings everyone!
I recently had another photo session of the aquarium.
Here’s an interesting shot, a cleaner cleaning another cleaner...
though the quality is lacking...
...and a few more new photos...
Wanda666
I keep looking and looking... and emotions overwhelm me!!!!!!!!!!! This is my dream, but there is one catch—there are no proper opportunities in Sevastopol to have this wonder—might as well go to Kyiv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recently, I got discus fish—I'm so frustrated!!! I can't get them to thrive! And there's no chance to even dream about marine fish—maybe there’s at least some advice? How can I make my dream come true? In my city—does anyone know? I would be very grateful for any advice!!!!!!!!!!!!! And thank you for the pleasure you’ve given me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kimberly
What is missing? You need:
1) desire
2) knowledge
3) money. Which point did you stop at?
Sorry, I didn't notice that I was in the thread about the Platax marine aquarium, so here's another point:
4) create your own thread
P.S. Ray, sorry again - I clicked delete later, but my post remained.
Stephen5857
Thank you very much for such warm words...
Karen1649
There's no need to apologize; the question was asked, and it still needs to be answered... I want to emphasize the first point: the main thing is the DESIRE... everything else can be resolved...
Patricia1746
You made us laugh....
Advice: 1. Set a goal 2. Acquire knowledge
P.S: You don't need to go to Kyiv for sea creatures. You can buy them in Sevastopol too (you just need to know the right places).
Brian
Dear, if by places you mean Oleg and his store or just the stores, of which there are quite a few in Sevastopol, then I will answer: there are plenty of stores, but the quality is lacking!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had an aquarium my whole life! It's been large for several years, but... that's not the limit! There are some issues, but everything is solvable!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I have little knowledge about marine life, but that's not the problem—the problem is with purchasing and getting sound advice—I've got money to spend... but I have no way to buy and enjoy it—so I'm waiting for advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who can provide reliable contacts!!!!!!
Tonya
Desire plays a very big role here. "Water does not flow under a lying stone."
Joseph9203
Hello!!!
It's a completely normal situation...
I think it's time for you to open your own thread and continue the discussion there, or let's ask the moderators to move the messages starting from this post to a new thread, and you can name it whatever you like...
Julia
There is no need to come up with anything—this is the topic itself—maybe it will be about the sea, specifically about cities.
Brandon9634
Hello! Could you please tell me where I can place the substrate called "nitrate minus"? In the filter, in a bag under the drain, or ...? And in general, how relevant is this product? I have, or rather my clients have, a small tank, and all the parameters seem to be normal except for the pH (7.8) and the skyrocketing nitrates! Thank you very much!
Todd
Nitrate minus should be sprinkled either directly onto the sand in the sump, if available, or into the aquarium among the rocks, on the substrate. It cannot be used in bags, as it is not a sorbent but a fertilizer for bacteria, so it should be placed as close to the substrate as possible, where the bacteria actually live.
Joseph6461
Thank you very much for your response. The aquarium is 1.50 meters long, and it won't work for the stones. But on the other hand, what difference does it make, since it has an aesthetic appearance - white and round. Can it be placed directly on the substrate? And in what quantity and for how long? And also (sorry) in a few words, how does this work? Thank you, kind person.
Cynthia6578
Thank you very much for your response! I have a sump, but it has no light. The aquarium is divided in half (exaggeratedly), with a skimmer in one half and large coral rubble in the other, where the water drains – that is the sump. Can I add a treatment to such a sump?
Jessica9188
It is possible, of course, if you pour it into the section where the crumbs are, even if the balls penetrate between the crumbs, it will only work better and more efficiently.
Sheila
Greetings everyone!
I decided to share some photos:
Theresa5149
Ray, please tell me, is it not a photo? Your back wall has grown so much. Is there any point in cleaning the back wall of a young aquarium or not?
Patricia1746
Hello Senya!
I see the point in cleaning the glass only so that you can look through it; in my aquarium, you can only see through the front (windshield) glass, so I clean it regularly. I never clean the other glass at all; I don't see any sense in cleaning the glass just for the sake of it being unclouded... In photo 2, that's actually the side wall... As for whether you should clean the back wall or not, that's something you have to decide for yourself; from the perspective of the aquarium's maturation, it doesn't make any sense...
James1625
Yes, Ray, what can I say - I thought that there couldn't be a more beautiful marine aquarium than yours. I WAS MISTAKEN!!!
Emily3506
Did you understand what you said?
Then give an example.
P.S. No attacks. I understood this as a typo.
Colin1418
This is not a typo, but a convoluted compliment. Ray: simply luxurious!!! Will you take me to work as a statue by the aquarium? Zankl has grown his braid - (phew, a toad on a string - to avoid the evil eye).
Beth3383
Hey, I will just quietly knock on wood and won't praise anything... Happy New Year to you, and may the pets be healthy.
Michael826
Hello, Ray!
I see in your photo that the bubble anemone and the sarcophyton are next to each other, is it not bothering it?
I have a sarcophyton that has partially hidden the polyps on the side of the anemone.
Jenny
Ray, what kind of animal is that in the 6th photo?
Cheyenne2747
Thank you, Olya! Happy New Year to you too, and all the best in the coming year.
Brent8919
Hello! The actinia is certainly a dangerous neighbor, but this sarcophyton is already old and strong; it retracts its tentacles a bit when the actinia touches it, although it generally tolerates such company well... However, the crinularia had to be moved to another place because the actinia started bothering it and burned it...
Ronald5720
If I counted correctly, the question pertains to this animal: it is a Palythoa (Palythoa sp.).
Sydney
Rey, please share information about the gorgonar, depicted in the fourth photo from the top in post number 219. Do you feed her? How long has she been living with you?
Wendy
Comrade Sleepy impressed me with the quality and execution of macro photography, especially of the aquarium with hydrobionts. After all, they (the hydrobionts) are not standing still... By the way, if it's not a secret, what equipment was used?
Amy5070
Wendy
Hello! Do you have mechanical or electronic timers on your Arcadia 3? If it's the latter, how are they set up? And you weren't wrong to warn me about the nitrate balls! I almost ruined the aquarium.
David2398
Hello!
The timers on this lamp are mechanical, but very convenient and completely silent.
They are set by toggling the levers, with an interval of about 15 minutes...
Everything is good in moderation...
P.S.
Timers:
Jenny
Hey, hi!
I was studying drain constructions and came across a photo of yours (top view). It turns out that the box with the pipe is located on the outside of the aquarium. How does the water from the main container get into it?
Best regards.
Jennifer5784
Hello! That's right, I have an overflow box simply glued to the side of the aquarium, and water enters it very easily - through holes drilled in the side wall of the aquarium... It was just convenient for me to do it this way because the furniture (a column) that is right next to the aquarium is already 15 cm from the aquarium, and there is quite a large space behind it to the wall, so I decided to make the overflow shaft on the outside; it's not visible anyway...
Christine
Very interesting, but then I have a couple more questions.
Are the holes drilled along the upper edge of the water?
What is their diameter and quantity?
How are they protected from animals?
What is the diameter of the drainage pipes and what are they made of?
Best regards.
Justin
The design that has successfully operated for so many years automatically becomes an object of imitation. Just the noise-dampening tubes in the drain are worth it. Durso takes a break. Best regards.
John3187
Greetings everyone!
I want to share some news.
At the beginning of February, I finally "matured" enough to decide on some changes in the aquarium.
The main reason for the changes is the very large size of two sarcophytons; one has already started pressing against the viewing glass, and the other has taken up a huge area in the aquarium, depriving all the neighbors of light.
The first to be removed (cut) was the fluffy sarcophyton, which was very obstructive for maintaining the aquarium and blocked the perspective. However, the "stump" from it remains, and soon there will be a new sarc...
Here’s what it turned out like:
Bryan1851
The next step was to remove the second sarcophiton and reconstruct the rock it occupied. While the new organisms don't look very good and aren't very natural yet, it's understandable; it takes time for this part of the rock to fully develop. Here's what it turned out to be... and a few more photos...
Joseph1346
Hey, hello!
It was very beautiful and has become so.
The tulle apogons are not visible in the photos, are they alive?
Best regards.
Angel628
The corals in the last 2 photos are very nice.
Samuel6138
I already wrote that the male of the glassy apogon got poisoned by the lost food (frozen gammarus) bought in the store. Of course, I am to blame for not checking the food for smell before feeding. The female died a month later because she couldn't release her eggs and got bloated... this happens with females that have spawned frequently and suddenly lost their partner.
Jasmine
If I understood the question correctly, it's about ricordeas, and in the last one, there are also rodactis, big green ones...
John5528
I take my hat off, very commendable. Without unnecessary frills - and maximum results. One piece of advice: don't forget about the skimmer. In balanced aquariums (like this one), it collects almost nothing in peaceful times, but it can save you during crises. The volume is not large, the stocking density is high - the likelihood of accidents is high. The skimmer we have is modest in performance; it may not be sufficient during emergencies. It can be replaced or upgraded. Small modifications can increase its efficiency by 50-100%. We have already modified all the skimmers we service, and the results are good everywhere.
Leslie
When replacing the needle wheel with a fluffy one in the AM 3500 pump, there is quite a significant difference in performance. This is evident both in the skimmer and in the rotameter. Before I tried it myself, I didn't believe that the difference would be so large. I can't say for sure how it will look in AB pumps, as I haven't seen them, but it seems to be even simpler than in others. I will definitely have a photo. I think the design and material of the wheel are quite reliable. Skim can be produced in the same volumes but more concentrated.
Jeffrey
Ray, which specific MG lamps are you using?
Thomas5021
I am currently using Arcadia 14000K lamps.
Frederick
It would certainly be possible to try, but there is neither the desire nor the time to search for materials and make the rotor...
James4757
Greetings everyone!
The aquarium is gradually recovering after the removal of sarcophytons and the addition of new inhabitants. The water quality has slightly deteriorated, but it is gradually returning to normal.
Taking advantage of the weekend, I did another photo session:
Michelle9986
A few more photos of the aquarium inhabitants:
Gene1948
Greetings everyone!
Today I observed an interesting phenomenon, for the first time in my practice, the sexual reproduction of Rodactis...
Rodactis was releasing pink balls, which emerged from the mouth like a bunch of grapes and scattered throughout the aquarium, much to the delight of the fish. Unlike the balls released by large anemones, the balls from Rodactis are bright pink in color, but nearly the same size. Another difference is that these pink balls were eagerly eaten by the fish; even Helmon couldn't resist the pleasure of indulging in them.
Jacob7201
Hello, Ray!
There's no need to worry; the startup rarely goes "smoothly" without algae growth. This primarily depends on the quality of the stones and sand, but any algae will eventually go away...
Here:
I have detailed the startup of my current aquarium with photos and dates. Of course, it doesn't have to unfold exactly as it did for me, but you can use this example as a reference for how it might be. The most important thing is that everything will eventually return to normal; patience is key...
I wish you good luck.
Jennifer5784
Thank you for the quick response! I was still blaming the lamps... the JBL actinics will arrive with the second batch of stone. (The stone is Indonesian.) The second batch will be "on wheels." Should I expect any surprises?
Amy
Stones with wheels are always a lottery; I don't like stones with wheels. On one hand, you can certainly get more various creatures with them, but on the other hand, they usually have a lot of dead animals, so the stones can "suffer" for a long time until they are cleared of the dead organic matter. In your case, there is nothing to worry about; if the aquarium is not yet populated, you just need to wait in case of an unfavorable development, and everything will normalize.
Laura7633
Thank you very much for your response!
One more question: why do the skimmers stop working during the reproduction of anemones? And how do you "revive" them afterwards? I have come across this expression from you; what does it mean? How do you help the skimmer start working again, or do you just have to wait?
Lee425
Happy birthday! Handsome!
Jill1815
Congratulations, maestro!!!! to the anniversary celebrant! I am setting a photo of your aquarium as my computer desktop background and admiring it))) thank you for your work.
Colin1418
I have a request for you: could you please add new close-up photos of the fence? Thank you in advance.
Sincerely, Vasily.
Jessica8898
Thank you all so much for the congratulations...
In the last photo shoot, he didn't come out well in close-up; it's difficult to shoot Zankla because he keeps moving, and all the shots I took turned out blurry...
Here is the most decent photo with his participation...
Darrell7542
Ray, congratulations. Three years for an aquarium is already adulthood.
Michelle1505
Thank you for the congratulations!!! Here are a few more photos that didn't make it into the last message.
Rachael
Hello everyone!
I took a few more photos...
General view...
...a few close-ups:
...well hidden...
...this time the photo of Zankla turned out well.
David2398
What a pity. I sympathize with Ray!
Hannah
Thank you for your sympathy...
John3335
Hello! I'm sorry! Sincerely! I also recently experienced some losses! Five Pterophyllums perished - it turned out the whole batch was poisoned... But as someone somewhat connected to veterinary medicine, though a beginner in the field, isn't it possible to try to fight the parasite in quarantine, since it can be created and maintained for pets? Please understand me correctly, this is not a directive, but a painful question for many...
Amber9312
Yes... It's a pity for Zankla... I sympathize... For me, this is the hardest moment - as soon as you think that losses are inevitable, your mood immediately deteriorates, and doubts overwhelm you.
Laurie3842
Good afternoon! Or rather, good evening. I ordered a Sarcofiton, based on your advice, and also something else. May I ask a question?! Why did you remove your Sarcofiton? And in the long run, what does it get along with, and what does it not? If possible, please respond in my thread... Best regards...
Courtney
At the request of Rey, I replied in his thread right here:
Lindsey3628
Tell me, Ray! What other fish would you like to try keeping in your "Sea"?
Gene1948
Hello! I haven't been in Moscow for 10 days, so I delayed my response... There are many fish I would like to have, but I don't plan on making any new acquisitions in the near future; I already have a lot of fish, and they continue to grow...
Elizabeth882
Hey, hi!
What exactly could have happened to the water in 10 days?
Best regards.
Michelle104
The underwater world is incredibly diverse. It's a pity there are no photos - it would have made for a crime scene report.
Stacy6866
Yes, it's a pity, I always try to capture such moments... but I was already late for work and didn't have time to take photos, and to make matters worse, I tore that thing, so I didn't want to leave it until the evening, as it would be hard to see anything anyway... I want to search for it online, and if I find it, I'll definitely share the link...
Kendra2262
Greetings everyone!
Over the weekend, I was at the M.A. (marine aquarium) and acquired two species of pseudochromis - Aldabra (Pseudochromis aldabraensis) and Friedman (Pseudochromis fridmani).
Aldabra settled in well; I managed to photograph it, although the quality is poor, but it is what it is...
Friedman I can't capture yet; it has settled in a dark spot, and I haven't been able to get a photo...
The aquarium is functioning as usual, aside from the new fish, everything is the same...
Added after 7 hours and 6 minutes
P.S.
And here is the pseudochromis fridmani caught on camera...
Paul
Maybe I missed something... Where is the Moorish idol? Did it perish?
Christina9947
I certainly don't leave such events without description, unfortunately, I missed...
Brent8919
Are there plans to introduce a replacement?
Joseph9203
I will not acquire any more Zankl... I have only one aquarium, and it's quite small, while there are many interesting fish. If I do get another fish, it will definitely be a different species that I haven't had before... Moreover, Zankl, unfortunately, has started to nibble on corals, and it's hard to predict how another specimen will behave; this fish cannot be considered safe for the reef... I can also add that lately, Zankl has clearly felt cramped in my aquarium; it needs space to swim, so it's better to keep Zankls in larger aquariums, as this fish is not small and likes to swim around...
Jeanne
Your photos always bring joy.
Lisa
I think your aquarium is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Just amazing!!!
Brandon9634
Thank you...
Added after 42 seconds
It's nice to hear, thank you for your kind words...
Danielle8118
Sincerely congratulations! So far, this is the only aquarium that I haven't fallen out of love with since I started my passion for the sea.
P.S. It's a pity I didn't get to see it in person...
Leslie
Thank you for the kind words...
And why in the past tense? I'm not planning to drain the aquarium yet, so anything is still possible. If you're in Moscow, you're welcome to visit...
Nicole2404
My congratulations! There used to be talk that fish in a marine aquarium don't live long, six months and that's it. Since then, much has changed.
Brent5588
Greetings everyone!
The recently acquired Friedman loach chromis turned out to be a pair and performed courtship dances right in front of the clowns; those rascals found a spot... no respect for the veterans...
Nicole263
Greetings everyone!
The aquarium is doing quite well overall, I'm posting a few new photos...
Rebecca1419
Hey, hi! Your aquarium is just DAS IST FANTASTIK!!! By the way, what is the name of the mushroom in photos 8 and 10 (with the helmet)? Can it be propagated by cutting it across with a blade, like regular disco anemones? I have one - it was 2 cm and has already reached gigantic sizes (about 15 cm in diameter), but it doesn't want to bud off.
James3382
Hello!
Thank you for the feedback...
This is a rodactis, there is information that they can be cut, but I have never done it myself, they divide on their own, although very rarely, besides, I love big rodactises...
Daniel8015
Greetings everyone!
I have long wanted to acquire yellow parazoanthids, but either I couldn't find a suitable spot or the parazoanthids were unavailable, and finally this weekend I found a suitable stone and a place for it...
... the stone fits very well into the overall design of the aquarium...
... the fish settled down to rest... and a few more photos.
Mariah
The yellow pair of zoanthids fit perfectly.
Angel2396
Yes, beauties! Just a little bit of yellow was missing from the overall spectrum, and now it's there! I couldn't manage to keep them - I think they need additional nutrition. After a few months, the polyps start to detach and disappear. It will be very interesting to follow your experience, Ray!
Michael826
Hello!
Actually, I had them even before I remodeled the aquarium; they lived quite well and even bred, although very slowly. I lost them when the filamentous algae started to take over, just before I took the aquarium apart.
Let's see how it goes now...
Jesse
I haven't written about my aquarium for a long time, but actually, there's nothing new to say, everything is the same, except that recently some of the fish started to share offspring, one shared them in half, and another one into as many as 6 parts, and all the parts are alive...
A few photos of the aquarium:
Jeffrey2277
The aquarium is, as always, at the highest level; I really like it, it reminds me of a natural reef. Ray, I've always wanted to ask, what is that branching coral in the background that looks like gorgonia, or is it gorgonia?
John3142
Yes, the aquarium is amazing; I love and admire those people who create, preserve, and then enhance such beauty. Well done, keep it up.
Tricia7885
Patrick4439
With the AM lamp (16000), there was a similar situation; at first, it seemed too blue (almost like 20k). Then, after about 10 days, it became closer to 12k on regular electromagnetic ballasts. Previously, more powerful AM lamps - 250w - were criticized for quickly losing their spectrum, and now it seems that there are issues with the 150s as well.
Tami
Hey, how's the clown's output? Any progress?
Cynthia6578
Olga, I don't even try to raise them; I have neither the space nor the time for that...
Corey3201
It's hard to say anything about these lamps for now. Initially, metal halide lamps shine somewhat differently; it's a common practice. In any case, all the lamps I've tried took about 1 to 3 weeks to reach their normal spectrum. After that, they shine steadily for about six months, but then it varies for different lamps—the spectrum and brightness change. For now, the light suits me, and we'll see what happens next.
Jesse3979
It's just fabulous!!!!!! The emotions are overwhelming!!!!! I've wanted to get a marine aquarium for a long time, but I just can't bring myself to do it! The money, well, it's a significant amount to create a mini sea, and recreating the microclimate, achieving such a riot of colors seems completely unattainable to me!!!! So here I am, looking at all this beauty, and I'm even afraid to think about starting to create something similar; I'm afraid I won't manage!
Daniel9952
Yes, no doubt, beauty. I saved your photos and will print them tomorrow for my collection, as a keepsake and also as a visual aid.
James4757
thank you ...
Rachael
Thank you... In fact, it's not that difficult. Recently, the second issue of the electronic magazine "Reef Aquarium" was released, to which I have a direct connection. There is a wonderful example, a small sea "Underwater Coral Garden":
Anna Malysheva's aquarium, only 37 liters, but so beautiful. Take a look; I think it should inspire you...
Brandon4517
Hello everyone!!!
During the past time, there haven't been any significant changes in the aquarium's life, I just took some new photos...
The aquarium is doing fine overall...
I haven't bought anything new, just a few more photos:
Jason5071
I completely agree with you. The same emotions. Wishing you success and continue to delight us with your photos. If I ever gather the courage to do something similar, I hope you won't hesitate to give me advice.
Melissa1838
I wish I could be a little fish and live in your aquarium. As always, simply wonderful!
Kristen2246
Great photos and an interesting accompanying text.
Joseph1346
Thank you so much!!! Just a wonderful aquarium! I've looked through the thread so many times, yet I still come back for new photos or messages. Although I have a calm attitude towards the sea, I can't pass by such beauty. I've set the photos of your aquarium as my desktop wallpaper. Thanks again!
Rodney3101
Magnificent! Captivating! Every well-maintained marine aquarium is a masterpiece.
Christopher1774
Ray, good night. I have a question: in the second photo below, are the zebrasomes fan worms or sarcophytons? If they are worms, does Helman not touch them? And it also looks like a sarcophyton, so I'm curious what its name is; it has long polyps, which is cool.
Brian7092
Hello!
You are absolutely right, this is a sarcophyton. I think it's Sarcophyton glaucum, although I'm not completely sure...
This species of sarcophyton is very fluffy, which is why I like it...
Stephanie9175
Greetings everyone!
The aquarium is doing well as usual, no particular news, just experimented a bit with photogravure, and as a byproduct, I accumulated a certain number of photos, decided to update the theme…
Lynn4242
My son and his friend brought a Canon 450D camera with some expensive lens, unfortunately, I can't tell the brand... Here are some photos taken with this camera...
Melinda
By-products with a zebra
Are the photos in both posts taken with the same camera or different ones?
Angel2396
Different, the first batch was taken with my Panasonic FZ50 camera... The second, as I already mentioned, was taken with a Canon 450D...
Pamela
Although I don't understand anything about this, I wouldn't say that the photos from the Panasonic are worse.
Christopher3770
It's surprising that these cameras are of different classes; even the Panasonic FZ50 costs three times less than the Canon 450D kit with the lens used for the photos, unfortunately, I didn't check the name of the lens...
Brandy1134
Christopher7213
Greetings everyone!
I was given a camera for my birthday, and I'm learning how to take photos with it, so I decided to show what I've been able to capture...
Karen81
A bomb. It looks like an atomic one.
Beth3383
Maybe this one? Sarcophyton ehrenbergi - Leather coral
Nicholas
No - it's HYDROgen!
Elizabeth6302
William
WOW!!! This is really what everyone should strive for! A TRUE REEF BIODIVERSITY! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!
Jill9137
The camera is great. The color reproduction is very accurate.
Guy
Veronica
I continue, a few more photos...
Dawn6148
The best photo of Helmon that I have seen.
Bryan1851
Yes, the shot was "cut" without a knife, the color reproduction is strong and everything looks as it does in reality. I'm not an expert in cameras, but if it's not a secret, what model is it?
Alexander
Hello!
What secret can there be, it's a Canon EOS 50D camera with a standard (kit) lens CANON EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM.
I was very afraid that my lighting wouldn't be enough to shoot without a flash, but the camera handled it well; I hate flashes, they ruin the true colors.
Michelle
I was offered something like that over the phone without a photo and just as a joke. I couldn't understand what it was and hesitated. Now I've seen it and claimed it. Tomorrow I'll be in Odessa, I'll definitely pick it up.
Jennifer5371
I am glad that my photos helped you decide on purchasing the coral...
Katie4842
I continue experimenting with the camera and want to show you a couple of photos taken with a different lens, the CANON EF 50 mm f/1.8 II.
It's a very good lens, despite its very low price (4100 rubles). The shots are sharp and of high quality, but I still can't manage to capture fish; I shoot handheld, and the fish always turn out blurry...
Chad9037
To logically conclude the experiment with this lens, I want to say that good equipment always allows you to find a way to take a decent photo, and the fish also turned out well.
Photos without flash and handheld...
I even managed to get an overall view, but I had to step back about 3-3.5 meters from the aquarium...
I will stop the experiments for now, I'm tired...
Thank you all for your attention...
Joshua448
There are processed photos that didn't make it into the previous messages, so I decided to post them as well...
Nicole263
What kind of coral is this? Gorgonia?
Rodney3101
If there is a frag for sale, I'm ready to buy. I'm also curious, is coral not picky, how does it grow?
Karen81
In Kyiv, buying is a problem.
Chad9037
I want to share another joyful event: at the end of September, it has been 11 years since a pair of clownfish with anemones have been living in my aquarium...
You could say they are already family members and the main symbol of my aquarium...
Most importantly, they continue to spawn regularly, and right now there is another batch of eggs...
Tara2761
Could you send me a link in private where I can download a book on marine aquaristics?
Cynthia6578
Greetings, everyone!!!
It's been a while since I updated the topic... since last year...
Basically, there are almost no news, the aquarium is still thriving.
Amber1273
To say it beautifully is to say nothing at all! Very beautiful!!!
Anthony7814
Skillfully, perfectly, with love!
Jason
Wow, I am speechless!! My admiration!!!
Rodney7316
Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really liked it.
Paul
Greetings everyone!
I haven't acquired any new inhabitants for a long time, I even forgot when it was last time, and finally, I made a new purchase last weekend—a tiny centropyge, Centropyge argi.
It quickly adapted and behaves as if it has always lived here... here are the first photos of the newcomer:
The aquarium, in general, is doing fine; there has been a slight increase in algae on the glass, but that happens to me occasionally...
...everything else is normal, as usual... here are a few more photos:
Brenda
An interesting metamorphosis.
Nicole7268
Aquas is simply amazing! New successes, keep it up!!
Mark
Yesterday I discovered that just in time for the 5th anniversary of my aquarium, issue 20 of the Israeli magazine "My Tropical Fish" was published.
It features my article about this aquarium...
For me, this is the best congratulation on this milestone in the life of the aquarium...
I want to express my immense gratitude to the magazine's editorial team and personally to Yakov Oksman for the excellent work done...
Caroline1599
Congratulations on your anniversary and publication!!!
Justin9867
I JOIN!!!
Leslie
the aquarium is just awesome
Andrea6761
as always at the top! Congratulations!
Natalie
Cool
Congratulations!
Tracey
Greetings everyone!
I want to share an interesting phenomenon with you.
You could say I have a new clown...
The thing is, the Lochechromis olivaceous living in my aquarium is displaying behavior typical of clownfish.
At first, he lived among the thickets of Cavularia, which was somewhat understandable, as there are many hidden passages, and the Lochechromis used them as burrows.
But recently, he has moved to live in the Sarcophyton and is using them like a clown anemone...
Linda
I had ocellaris in my tank for a long time, but then, apparently, they got bored and left for the entacmaea... Where they still live now...
Wanda666
Hello! With ocellaris, this is a common occurrence; they go after anything that moves, especially if it's not an anemone. However, such behavior is not typical for pseudochromis...
Earl
Hi, Ray! Oh, beautiful fish! I will definitely get some loach chromis at the first opportunity. I remember that young dominoes used to settle in the anemone...
Tasha
Yes, young three-spot damselfish often invade anemones. In my time, I had a damselfish that even staged fights with clownfish for the anemone, but then it grew up, matured, and no longer needed the anemone. Instead, it started to terrorize other fish in the aquarium, and it took me a lot of effort and nerves to catch that monster...
Kimberly
I will allow myself to share a few more photos of the aquarium.
Today I was at the store and bought a zebrasoma sailfin (Zebrasoma velium), I have wanted to have one like this for a long time, with a high fin and clear coloring.
The fish is quite large, so my long-time residents didn't chase it much, the introduction went smoothly without serious conflicts...
Travis572
Wonderful zebrasoma. How much does one cost, if it's not a secret?
Amy1672
What kind of secret can there be? I bought it in a retail store for 2500 rubles.
Shawn
This is for our 1000 grams, that is, 125 dollars; for such size and beauty, the price is reasonable, a fairy tale.
Gabriel
Yes, in our city, it's unimaginable how much such a thing would cost. And they say Moscow is an expensive city...
Joe
Leha for our 625.
Danielle9144
Maybe I was wrong, maybe so, if it's really $80, then forget it, I'm just happy for Rey.
Robin
For such a treasure, it's just... Oh, how people live!!!
Raven7170
A couple of years ago, I bought a similar zebra from Lesha when he was working with Tkach. It cost around 40-50 bucks, if not cheaper. I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't 85 dollars. So... And Moscow is not a cheap city, and not all the hustlers have disappeared yet.
Jessica6754
Off-topic In Zaporizhzhia (the most expensive city for supplies), such a fish would cost at least $150, if not more, so there is something to compare.
David953
I confirm every word in this sentence...

Hello everyone!
The aquarium is still the same, without any significant changes...
I missed a small anniversary at the end of September; it has been 12 years since the clowns have been living with the anemones in my aquarium...
I took some photos of the aquarium.
Everything is going its course, the anemones are gradually coloring up.
One is coloring evenly...
...while the other is coloring in patches, looking as if it got dirty...
...the colony of purple caulastrea is trying to recover, but the process is very slow...
...everything else is fine...
Debra6575
It is clear that the aquarium has mostly overcome the troubled times. Cool. Soon I will post photos too. The delay is due to getting a good camera.
Amy1672
beauty. I just returned from the Red Sea, but the picture in your aquarium is no worse)))
Gregory9432
Greetings everyone!
I have already mentioned that the clowns recently celebrated their anniversary - 12 years of living together in my aquarium, and they decided to mark this occasion with another spawning, which makes me very happy. They are now approximately 12.5 years old, considering that I got them when they were young, but not fry; I believe they were at least six months old. The fact that they continue to spawn at this age indicates good health for these fish.
Megan
Hello everyone!
I found some time, took a few photos, and decided to update the topic.
The aquarium is doing well; soon the effects of the summer heat will be completely unnoticeable, and the anemones continue to color up. I recently replaced the metal halide lamps with the same ones, but new; nothing else has changed, everything is as before...
Tracy
Good evening. I have been admiring your aquarium for a long time. I want to ask a question. There are 2 anemones in the foreground. How did it happen that they are in such a visible place? I have the same species. Once, one climbed behind a rock and now it sits there upside down, with only a small piece sticking out. Will it come out under the light or can it stay there for a long time? Have you experienced something like this?
Brent5588
Hey, hi. In the photo in the depths of the brearium, who is this, Pseudochromis aldabraensis? How does it behave compared to other pseudochromis?
Karen
Oh my, what a beauty!!!
Joseph1346
beautiful.
Dennis
Greetings everyone!
I found a free minute and decided to update the topic a bit.
The aquarium is doing well, everything is fine, no new additions... very little free time... my wife is taking care of the aquarium more now...
A few photos, I don't think I'll take any new ones this year...
Brandy
Awesome!!! Especially the carpets of the clavicular. When I have it like that... It's growing, but not at that speed.
Rachel
Very beautiful, thank you, Ray, I got a lot of aesthetic pleasure from contemplating your jar! The situation with the clavularia is still unclear. My colony, and not only mine, grew to a "critical mass" of about 4-5 stones, and then there was a sudden wilting of the entire colony within a week. Individual frags taken during the period of flourishing, when planted in the same aquarium, grow just as lush as before. So, a lack of trace elements is theoretically ruled out. What could be the issue?
Caroline1599
I wish further health and prosperity to your wonderful Reef! It is, as always, at its best!
Kellie
Greetings everyone!
I haven't updated my thread in a long time, and honestly, there's not much to write about. The aquarium is doing as usual, with hardly any changes; everything is generally fine. I'm posting a few photos, so to speak, for the record:
Richard2180
Incredibly beautiful aquarium.
Janet5447
Amazing!!!
Christopher7213
I have been following this aquarium since its launch on the forums; it is recognizable and a good example for both beginner and experienced aquarists. I wouldn't be able to maintain one aquarium for 6 years; the owner has great patience.
Jessica6754
Greetings everyone!
I haven't been writing much on the forums lately, I guess I'm getting old...
Sorry...
Over the weekend, I took some fresh photos:
...here are a couple more photos with clowns:
Nancy758
The aquarium has always been a bomb and remains a bomb. Off-topic, but regarding "getting older," you can drop that, I'll be older than you, and I never thought about signing up for the "shamkunovs" list. Especially in such an interesting time we live in...
Thomas1044
Hello, Rey.
I have a question about gorgonians - what is the growth rate of the coral - around 50% in 6 months? Do you add anything special for it?
Curtis9143
Cut out the walls of the aquarium and the top - a large coral reef. It's hard to believe this is an aquarium!! You are a monster! Wishing you all the best.
Steven7574
Hello!
I don't specifically track the growth rates of gorgonians; it could be as you said.
I don't add anything special, I only feed the fish, but quite a lot and as varied as possible.
Allison
a stable aquarium! I must say - WELL DONE! It lacks bright colors of corals - I would add acid green caulastrea and something in red shades of corals.
Gene1948
Classssssssss is just plain Classssssssss!!!!!!!!!! I got a second wind looking at this wonder!!!! And the photos are Classssssssss!!!!!!! Everything is balanced and in its colors - not a rooster show in colors - Amazing - definitely - the background "in green" Suuuuperrrr!!!!!
Respect!!!!!!!!! And Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
Teresa
In this aquarium, everything is as close as possible to the natural landscape, there is not a single detail that is unnecessary or incorrectly "arranged," everything is harmonious, and the specific details complement each other. Do you agree?
Bonnie
Cool soft riff, without copies of anyone, and imitations.
Thomas1044
Absolutely! That's why I liked it.
Ryan
Are the surgeons not overindulging in this red algae? Can we see a photo of it, what does it look like?
Justin9867
Brian
I forgot to mention the surgeons; they did eat this algae, but very little. It's not realistic to clean the aquarium with their help.
Michelle13
It seems that the Black Sea hermits are eating her. I'm not quite sure yet.
Todd
They eat it, and they clean it off by 100, 50%, especially the Diogenes, the enemies of the lower ones...
Maria
Thank you very much for your work! We enjoyed browsing through your topic (albeit briefly)! We have much to learn.
How is the aquarium doing now?
Sincerely, Nikolai and Anna.
Stephen5841
It was nice to read the confirmation of my thoughts in your post #440.
My thoughts only aligned in part - in the fight against the consequences of introducing such chemicals into the marine aquarium.
With one correction - instead of bacteria, add live rock and possibly live water from a mature aquarium.
Best regards.
Jennifer
Greetings everyone!
I decided to update the topic a bit.
The aquarium is doing well.
There is almost no news, the fish are indeed aging,
the yellow-bellied chrysurus lived for 8 years and recently disappeared,
but everything else is fine, the anemones have lightened a bit
due to the heat, but that's something that can be fixed.
A few photos for the record:
Here are a few more photos...
Joshua3019
A couple more photos taken with a different camera, although the camera itself is not as good, but the photos are more "recent"...
Barbara8192
the soil is dark, brown water plants are attacking?
Jeremy
These algae are almost always present in my aquarium, but their quantity is not critical; a thin film appears and disappears. Right now, there are no strombus snails, so there's no one to stir the substrate...
Elizabeth
What are the parameters for nitrate and phosphate? Are you using vodka method? I had the same problem in my aquarium. I strengthened the skimmer with another pump and added vodka... the amount of brown algae has significantly decreased.
Frederick
I don't think there is a problem in the aquarium; the algae do not interfere with the life of the aquarium, and the sediment on the substrate is not significant and is not increasing. I haven't taken measurements for several years; I regularly use the nitrate-reducing product and sometimes add a bacterial supplement, NO3-PO6-X from Red Sea, about once a week, all by eye, based on the condition of the animals.
Charles4157
Greetings everyone!
I decided to update the topic a bit...
The aquarium is currently almost unchanged.
Here are some fresh photos:
But there is an interesting event nonetheless.
As they say, believe it or not, in September it has already been 15 years since the anemones and a pair of clownfish have been living in my aquarium.
During this time, the anemones have never split.
Despite their advanced age, the clownfish continue to lay eggs regularly.
Bryan1851
just gorgeous!!!!
Charles894
Happy Birthday, so to speak. Wishing success to your sea ) may it grow into an ocean ) P.S. Father of marine aquariums!
Jacqueline5976
Greetings and congratulations to everyone on the New Year 2014! I decided to refresh the theme a bit; the aquarium is doing well. However, I lost a few bright small fish in 2013, mostly due to old age, so I updated the population a little. Here are some fresh photos, including some with the newcomers:
Courtney4094
Greetings to all marine aquarium enthusiasts!
Yesterday, at the request of one of the forum members, I compiled a selection of photos showing the state of the aquarium at yearly intervals. However, the cameras used were different, so the quality of some photos varies.
I’m sharing them here in case anyone is interested.

I haven't grown up to the sea yet, but I really liked your aquarium! Super!
Stephen
And where is the brenarium from the rear window?
Richard
fell off ...
Debra8438
It was beautiful.
Joshua9340
It's a pity, but this is not the first time. The Cavularia (Binarum) has outgrown itself; the colony grew over itself, and the lower layers began to die off. As a result, it all peeled off the glass in one large carpet, and I have no more place to put it. At the moment, only the colony on the rocks and the pump in the upper left corner remain... maybe it will grow again.
Joyce
Hello, I greet you. I haven't seen you in a long time, I'm glad to hear that everything is fine with you, the aquarium is as always top-notch.
Danny
Hello!
Thank you!
I haven't been writing on forums much lately, my eyes get tired, I try to spend less time at the computer...
Another interesting fact is that my clownfish and anemones have been living in my aquarium for 17.5 years!!!
Michael826
Hey, aren't you thinking of switching to the ice? And you won't have to change anything, it's been a few years like that.
Rodney3101
No, I don't plan any changes for now.
Vanessa6144
Let's continue to communicate calmly on the topic set by the author.
