Don't lose hope too soon. You might have a mantis shrimp living with you. I've had one in my aquarium for about four years... I saw it once when I was setting up the aquarium... it still makes noise sometimes, that little rascal.
Teresa
Thank you! We will be looking for it.
Earl
There is. A conch shell against the glass. A very similar sound.

I don't think a strombus can hit that hard three times a second. If you're breaking down a lot of reef, try looking online for methods with traps. I saw some examples on YouTube once, but I can't find them now...
Gregory
The author didn't seem to mention 3 times per second in the topic.

Well, there were no strombus snails in the aquarium when the sound was already present. But the most important thing is that the sound's intensity is stronger than what a strombus can generate. The clicks are very similar, ringing, like the sound of a coin hitting. I don't think a strombus can accelerate so much to gain the necessary amount of kinetic energy for such a ringing impact.
And I have 2 strombus snails, about 7 centimeters each, and they are in plain sight =)
Emily
Come on. My strombus shells are clattering so much that you wake up.

By the way, lately I've also been hearing someone tapping or clicking in the aquarium; there haven't been such clicks for a year, and now here we are. However, if it's a mantis shrimp, I can catch it and put it in acrylic; the sheets are ready for gluing. If needed, I'll glue it with super glue gel. There are strombus snails in the tank, but I don't think they are responsible for the clicks. I've noticed that there used to be a huge number of small snails, but their numbers have decreased now. The sound only comes from one side of the aquarium. I suspect one stone (it lived under it in the sand); perhaps the sounds are coming from it.

Did you add something to the aquarium? Are the stones fresh?
The sound really carries from one area.
Sherri1320
Nothing new was added (stones), perhaps I didn't pay attention to the sounds before.

Good video, nothing to add here.
Breanna9982
So, did you catch the shrimp?
I'm getting fed up with it, it keeps clicking more and more often.
While I was writing the message, it clicked three times (in one minute). I found the topic.
Rebecca
didn't catch it. =( I rearranged the aquarium - maybe I'll see it..

Good evening! This summer, I am planning to set up a marine aquarium with a mantis shrimp (Squilla oratoria), as I can easily obtain one since my house is located 700 meters from the Adriatic Sea (the eastern part of Italy), where they are found. Could you please advise me on how many liters of water are needed for this creature (the size of this species is 20-25 cm)? There are plenty of crabs in the sea, I can also get live rocks, and the main question is: what are the water parameters in the Adriatic Sea? Sorry, I just don't know... In general, everything about keeping it! Thank you very much to everyone who responds!
Kevin
Thank you! What are the water parameters?

It's 700 meters for you, measure it!

This is definitely not a mantis! - the mantis is hand-sized and as big as a plump hamster. This is a snapping shrimp - its size is no bigger than a cigarette filter and it doesn't come out of the live rock at all!
The only way to catch this little shrimp is to determine by sound which rock it lives in and ......... (just don't sell it).
Come to terms with the idea that such a wonder will live in your aquarium.

Mantis shrimp are quite cautious, but they can be lured out with various things. They usually cover their burrow with a shell and hunt passing inhabitants. Often, this hunting is successful, and in the conditions of a marine aquarium, one can always notice the disappearance of some of the residents. These are the main signs of how to find them. Once, I filmed it; we removed the shell from the burrow and lured them out with a lighter.
