Favids have only one way to be fragmented. At the base of an adult coral, under favorable conditions, a branch may form that can be carefully broken off and grafted (glued) onto a flat stone, directing moderate current towards it. There are certainly no other methods, as all Favids represent monolithic formations that are unimaginable to break, smash, etc.

Chinese sets are for sale - mini drills, drill bits, saws, etc. I keep looking at them, but the quality is frightening. Using a mini saw (circular) to cut stone. You will lose the "extreme" polyps. The worst option is brown jelly.

Brown jelly is a death sentence. By the way, these corals suffer quite painfully from mechanical damage. I wouldn't risk practicing with a saw.

This is exactly how they are fragged before shipping, but they are allowed to recover in shallow water under the sun. In an aquarium, such actions usually lead to the development of infection.

And what if you buy in Lugol after fragmentation?

I frag brain corals, favites, and acanthurias like this: I take a wide chisel, a heavier hammer, and with one strike I cut it. Then, for the frags, I make a bath with TM pro-coral cure, five minutes and that's it. There was brown jelly once, and I didn't treat it after the division.

Guys, let's create a thread where everyone can share their experiences about fragmenting different corals or rename this topic so we don't clutter the threads! ???

Cassandra1840

I will raise the topic. I have a question about the fragmentation of Acanthastrea and Favites. Who, how, with what? Thank you!
