Particles of euphilia may attach to certain substrates in nature, giving rise to a new colony; this might be one of the ways this species reproduces.

I don't think there's any reason to worry about this. I periodically see four types of Euphyllia on the sand, small detached pieces of Euphyllia, but in the past year, none have disappeared because of this. When one of the heads starts to disappear, it becomes clearly visible and is externally distressing.
