To begin with, could you provide us with the volume of the aquarium, its age, what inhabitants are there, the water parameters, the testing field, how the water changes are done, and it would be good to have a photo. This will make it easier for us to advise and help you.
Melinda
Volume 230 liters. The inhabitants include a yellow zebrasoma, two clownfish (Amphiprion melanopus), and a boxer shrimp. The aquarium is 4 months old. Parameters: pH-8.1, density-1.024, temperature-26 degrees, NO2-not determined, NO3-5 mg/L, ammonium-not determined. I haven't measured phosphate, I don't have a test, I will buy one today and measure it. I do water changes every two weeks, 5% of the water with Tetra Marine Sea Salt. Unfortunately, I can't take photos right now as I don't have a camera. I fed them frozen Artemia and bloodworms. Additionally, I provided dry food from Sera. The food is not just spat out, but ignored.

Pterophyllum are quite hardy fish with a strong immune system. They rarely get sick. The only problem is that when caught in the wild, they are poisoned with cyanides (to make it easier to catch them). The symptoms you describe are similar to those of cyanide poisoning. The water parameters in your aquarium are acceptable for them. They can tolerate even worse conditions without issues. It is possible they have contracted a bacterial infection. In that case, treatment with antibiotics in a separate container is necessary.

I had a story with cardinals; I bought four of them, and after a week, only one was left. It was eating well, no problems. Six months passed, and then the fun began. I noticed that the fish was behaving not quite right: frayed fins, stopped eating, heavy breathing. I thought it was the end, started to catch it, but it turned out to be too fast. A week went by, and it started eating normally again, and its fins grew back... Maybe it was a bacterial infection or some other issue? I still don't understand what the problem was.

I think they got poisoned by something. By the way, I also bought a pterophyllum about 10 days ago. Something tells me that yours and mine are from the same batch! It eats Artemia well, but is trying the dry food, though it hasn't eaten it yet. I will keep an eye on mine.

That's it, one little cardinal has moved on to the land of eternal fishing. It's heartbreaking. The second one is still alive, swimming around energetically; I couldn't catch him, but he hasn't eaten. I hope he survives. I want to do a large water change. Does it make sense? Will it ease the condition of the second apogon?
Joshua3019
I don't think so. And what connection is there..? The rest of the animals are fine, right?
Alyssa6727
How is your cardinal? Today mine stopped eating and is breathing heavily...

Hello. My second cardinal died yesterday. I tried to give him a bath with antibiotics, but unfortunately it didn't help. All the other fish are alive and healthy, eating heartily. It's unclear what caused the death. I sincerely hope your fish can withstand the illness.
Mitchell7972
Thank you, of course! But if the fish is poisoned, it has almost no chance...
Michelle1662
Who did you get the fish from?
Kenneth7210
I have the same picture; the third one left yesterday.

My pet died the day before yesterday...

This will probably be a secret known to many, while others will guess? It seems to me (maybe I'm wrong?) that those who haven't stumbled upon them yet need to know where the pitfalls are...

Well, sorry, but it doesn't always work out the same way! Two deliveries ago, not a single fish died, and for some reason, there were no buyers then! And a customer buying fish "off the truck" should understand that such fish can be sick or, even worse, die!
Robert800
When buying fish from a truck, everyone knows what they're doing, but how can you buy it not from a truck when the fish is being taken from the truck? With the foxes, it was also bad in the last shipment! Out of four people who took them, two are still alive (one is mine), and two have died. I barely managed to get a fox for myself. I took the last one that wasn't reserved. This was 3-4 days after the shipment. So, how could I have bought one that was kept longer? I understand you, and we don't have much choice.
Jeffrey6189
It's not always possible to buy a second-hand one! Everything gets sold out in a day or two.
Raven7170
Let them deliver it on order.
Nicholas
If you place an order, we can hold it for you, but the price will naturally be different! I understand your position, but please understand that our supplier does not always provide the quantity of the species we order, and most importantly, the quantity that customers request. It is not always possible to bring the amount of fish that was ordered here!
Sara
It is evident that the price difference is not significant. And clearly, the majority of people buy fish from vendors on the street not because of the price! P.S. Read more carefully what is being said, otherwise the conclusions can be quite offensive. Why immediately label people as stingy?
Amy9618
P.S. Some clients request to conduct a quarantine, and we do this, usually for 14 days.
This is very important! I will keep that in mind. Now I will do it this way.
Collin
They buy on the spot because it's cheap. I doubt the seller will refuse to hold it for the sake of immediate profit, although anything can happen. There are many options. As for the difficulty in buying and everything being sold out, it seems there are plenty of suppliers now—you can just go and buy from someone else. P.S. I'm reading carefully—the fact remains that now SNUSMURIK and Lenny will go to buy the apogon again, this time at twice the price, but good quality, and it's not guaranteed that it will be from this seller.
Christopher1252
In this shipment, the difference between "off the shelf" and the pre-owned is 50. So, I didn't buy it because it was cheap, but because it won't be available later. If I decide to try Cardinal again, I will buy specifically from "this seller"! PS How many suppliers are there??
Nancy
Can we expect the spread of the infection further in the fish? But it seems that none of the lost cardinals have mentioned this... How should we interpret the situation? Either the weakened cardinals were unable to fight off the pathogen, or the immunity of the "local" fish prevented the invasion of the parasites?
