I have a friend who was fattening up mollies))) I bought about 15 of them at a flea market (for a ruble each) and released them into the aquarium)))

I'm not against feeding her with guppies, but my fish is about 5 cm in size. She needs guppies that are around 0.5 cm... Today I'll go looking for such "big ones."
Today I made something not quite smart, but as they say, "what's done is done." After yesterday's fishing, I had some maggots left. I washed one and gave it to the fish - she devoured it instantly! I'm thinking, maybe I should try giving her live bloodworms or tubifex?
Kristen1161
I saw how they caught the maggot, but I don't know about the bloodworm; it's an unusual bait, and there might be a risk of getting sick.

In the end, I tried both frozen shrimp and squid - zero results. Today I went and bought 3 shrimp about 0.7mm in size and a dozen very small guppies. She took the shrimp from the tweezers, and I caught the guppy myself in the tank... How often should I feed a young, or rather very small, butterfly fish? I know that larger ones should be fed 1-2 times a week, but what about the small ones?
Melinda
It seems that there won't be any problems with feeding over time, since the shrimp was taken off the tweezers. As for feeding the small winged ones, the situation is basically the same as with the larger ones.

By the way, butterflyfish are very interesting fish; they can rise from the bottom to the surface almost vertically. But there is also a peculiarity - they like to swim with their upper fin-rays protruding a few centimeters above the water. So, be careful with the lid and lamps. In nature, they also prefer to swim (hunt) in groups of 3-5 individuals.
Take a photo with the butterflyfish! I like them, but the aquarium needs to be bigger...
Off-topic: Max, I heard you had a Reef Octopus NS-80 skimmer; could you drop a couple of lines in a private message with your opinion or maybe a link to where it's mentioned in your thread?
Cindy
When reaching adult size, butterfly fish sometimes swim to the surface and can spit water. It's hard to say what causes this, but it's not a good sign. Streams of saltwater flow down the front glass, and when seawater gets on the lamps, it can cause a short circuit... Therefore, as they grow, it's necessary to ensure reliable insulation of the lamp connectors or to consider protective glass for the fixture.

It's actually an amazing fish. Currently, a tank of about 500 liters is planned specifically for such beautiful but predatory fish.
A little about the lionfish...
I have never seen a more intelligent and completely unafraid fish than the volitans. Roughly speaking, this fish was swimming in the sea just three weeks ago, and today it already knows its feeder and not only knows but has also learned commands. When it is at the bottom, I bring my finger to the glass and start leading it anywhere, to any corner of the tank, and it swims where I point. I need to film a video...

That's how it should be in nature. Herbivores rely on numbers, while predators rely on intelligence, resourcefulness, and the ability to learn. If the prey is smarter than the predator, the latter will simply starve. So, is it more interesting to keep predators?

Offtopic About the pen.
Kostya, this is a very good and small pen. It can handle about 50-60 liters without going overboard. I can't say it knocks out fuel oil, but it's quite capable. Considering it costs 150.
Photo session of the winged one. And next to it, the feed base is floating.

Good fish for those who like to tinker in the aquarium or rearrange the stones. Off-topic, right, Yarik?

Max, I see that you love large marine fish so much that you consciously sacrifice the chrysiptera and apogon, knowing their days in this aquarium are numbered, but what won't you do for a fish from which everything else is "the prose of life".... The fact that butterflyfish are stunning not only in appearance but also in behavior, Stepanov wrote about, mentioning that despite their toxicity, there has never been a case of anyone refusing them.
Off-topic: Now all that's left is to get a shot and... forget about it... (though the feeling is such that you could climb the walls. I had the fortune...).
Jade
You need to buy hedgehog mittens.
I'm curious, do you have one like the one in the photo from the Red Sea? The one in the photo is about 15 centimeters from tail to nose.
Off-topic: Where can I get a pen for 150? I haven't seen any cheaper than 250 so far...
Stephanie9175
"You sacrifice the chrysiptera and the apogon," no. I feel very sorry for them. The butterflyfish won't be in this aquarium for long. Then there will be a fish tank. I think I have about 2 months of buffer. I feel sorry for the fish. Off-topic: Everything needs to be tested on oneself (within reason). I used to think that dental treatment was the most painful thing there could be. Then there was the tor, which many know, now let's try the butterflyfish.

Such. Offtopic I meant used. And even better is the Deltac 300. But it costs more.
Tina
The whole point is that winged fish grow quite quickly, and you might not keep up. I had a case where I put a volitans about the same size as yours with a large amphiprion melanopus. They lived together harmoniously for about a year. Then, when the winged fish became an adult, it ate him... I found out about it one day when I came home from work, noticing his absence and the huge belly of the winged fish.
Michelle9986
I'll try. But in general, it's definitely a predatory creature.

Did you decide to test our vigilance? For several days now, I've been remembering your message and I have a gut feeling that something is off. And here it is! Clowns live in anemones so that NO ONE dares to eat them. Or were there no anemones? Then that was quite a risk... My melanopus even fears its own shadow.
Rita
It was a friendly joke, nothing more. We are all friends here, what distrust or criticism, especially towards you. However, the fact that there are dozens of not-so-small predators lurking in the sea around the clowns, while the clowns leisurely swim a meter away from the anemone, indicates that many aquarium fish have lost their natural instincts. Their behavior becomes unpredictable, much like a bear released into the wild from a zoo.
