Lauren

No need for a few photos. Let's have more! And, if possible, don't compress them too much and include the names of the fish.

Chelsea

I'm posting it. A shot of the reef, a bit "out of context," but I couldn't resist. After all, it's fresh, taken yesterday...

Jonathon8514

Well, I think it's not difficult to figure out who is who here...

Thomas1044

The soft reef is very beautiful even without fish. It's not worth putting those hippos there. By the way, I've changed my mind about the Emperor angel; it's better not to place it in the reef, as it started nibbling on the seriatopora. The Zancle is also not suitable for the aquarium; it has wiped out almost all the zoanthids and parazoanthids, only leaving the green ones alone.

Antonio

Some species of butterflyfish will definitely be subjected to attacks as these beauties grow, potentially leading to their complete destruction. At one time, I placed adult Heniochus acuminatus in a reef aquarium. A week later, I had to catch them out because the protomallids were damaged and all of them closed up. Although some sailors claim that heniochus butterflyfish do not bother protomallids. I won't argue, anything is possible.

Mitchell3177

Cool! What about the equipment? Is there a foam pad?

Justin9867

The skimmer is symbolic. There was a device called Tunze that worked in this aquarium at one time. It cost 340 currency units and was quite effective. After some time, about 10 years ago, after working for 1.5 years, it stopped functioning. After some reconstruction, it still has issues, very minimal... In other words, it’s practically non-existent... In this case, I tend to think that it shouldn't be there at all... I see that it is quite possible to manage without it. P.S. This information is a personal subjective opinion and cannot be offered as a recommendation.

Jennifer7159

I had the same situation. In the end, the protophilites died.

Jonathan6173

What a frenzy, just a little more and everything will burst through the front windshield and scatter. Wow...

Charles

You know, you are not the first one I hear (read) from that after disconnecting the pen and, later, completely getting rid of this device, the reef starts to look healthier and better! PS The Emperor Angel is just GORGEOUS!!!

Darrell7542

In my opinion, there are too many coral skeletons. They evoke a sense of gloom. I would remove them, leaving only the stones, even if they are from the Black Sea.

Lisa

agree

Courtney4094

So this is not a reef, but purely a fish tank. And in a fish tank, nitrates are not such a big problem. After all, nitrates are toxic to invertebrates. A reef, indeed, is ideally a self-cleaning system, but at volumes of 250-300 liters.

Dana4701

Perhaps, in the foreseeable future, some skeletons will move to other aquariums. I have three more aquariums besides the ones in the photos. Two are 150 liters and one is 300 liters. They serve as auxiliary tanks. I will try to add Black Sea live rocks, but I will aim to choose more intricate ones. I will listen to and take into account all suggestions and comments regarding the further decoration of the interior with great attention. Thank you.

Mike

That's right. According to my latest measurements, it's 50 mg/l. S.R.K. (dry reef stones) certainly help maintain nitrates at an acceptable level. Even in a fish tank, the growth of nitrates is undesirable, as it can cause dull coloration in fish and the so-called HLL disease of the lateral line. In severe cases, angels and surgeons can "lose hair" on their heads. One cunning sailor once, without batting an eye, offered to sell such an emperor with a bald head for 300 currency units. It was a pity for the fish, of course...

Nancy758

Considering the number of coral reefs that die in nature each year, Anatoly's aquarium looks natural...

Andrew7823

The most important thing is the fish. Their healthy and beautiful appearance and, accordingly, behavior... As for the background, one can continue to experiment... in terms of landscape diversity... There are plenty of possibilities here. If only there were resources. In terms of stocking with triggerfish, groupers, wrasses, etc...

John3335

Please explain how S.R.K. (dry reef stones) contributes to... (continuing with the text of the quote)?

Bryan1851

They may not contribute right away, but after spending several years in the aquarium... I think there's no need to explain what this is about. I repeat, I planted them about 7 years ago, and even then, 70% were from existing aquariums.

Joe

Who has experience keeping butterfly fish? Please share. I have a purely fish aquarium with a volume of 900 liters. Right now, there are only two butterfly fish, but in the future, I would like to have butterfly fish. I'm interested in how they behave, how active they are, how aggressive they can be, what tank mates are suitable, and what are the specific care requirements for an aquarium with butterfly fish.

Mark7376

I had to work with the winglets for a long time, I'll write back tomorrow, sorry, no time right now. Please check the topic tomorrow around 11-12. If anyone can inform you before that...

Christopher4125

That's exactly what worries me about the toxicity. I'll have to deal with it. Here, a clown pinches, and it leaves a bruise, which is unpleasant. And to suffer for two days... I understood that in our case we need to look for fry. Otherwise, we'll have to say goodbye to the butterflies.

Meghan

I completely agree with Anatoly.

Kevin8087

If everything goes well, I will set up a 600-800 liter fish tank for my parents with winged fish and angelfish. But I'm too lazy to deal with a sump. However, without a sump, it's a problem to install a decent skimmer, and without a skimmer, I can't imagine where the nitrates could go with a dense fish population, etc. How dry reef rocks can effectively eliminate nitrates is a mystery to me. It's like something out of science fiction, personally. I understand that the algae eater is hidden somewhere?

Kathy

1. You seem to like macrophytes. Why are they absent here? 2. Do you think this stagnant area with a thick layer of sand is good? 3. It's unclear why there isn't osmosis + salt here??? How much do you change in % and how often? Thank you!

Angela6489

Kostya, Hepatus, and Fox Lo simply won't let the macrophytes grow.

Gabrielle5053

So I'm not a sailor, I'm just learning.

Joshua9847

And what about surgeons with loaches and angels? I feed them with macrophytes. A decent bush of racemosa, for example, disappears within 1 hour. There is no stagnation. There are turbulent flows over the sand and the digging activity of fish. The entire layer of sand is in motion. Water replacement due to the reef aquarium. Once every 2-3 months, 25%. The rest is topped off either with osmosis or water purified with the coagulant "Hyacinth," practically without nitrates.

Charles894

Species - Pterois russelli. There are no visible signs of disease, but in the store where the fish was purchased, there was an outbreak of crypto in some aquariums, and other fish were taken along with the lionfish, so the sick fish could have been present. The aquarium is 900 liters, with three small piles of live rock, and nitrates are normal. The other fish are doing well. We will try a treatment with the line tomorrow. Thank you.

Kevin262

Overall, the trick with the fish line didn't work. The butterfly fish showed no interest in the pieces of fish and shrimp. However, a few guppies immediately triggered their hunting instinct. Two out of four butterfly fish grabbed a guppy each. It turns out that guppies can live in saltwater for a few hours and prefer to stay near the surface. A frightened guppy hides among the rocks. I don't know what happened to the other guppies, but the volume is large, and the foam filter is powerful, so even if they don't end up as lunch for the butterfly fish, they won't significantly pollute the water.

Tiffany5069

You still need to train the winged ones to take marine food, particularly small fish. This can be a lengthy process, but it's necessary to get them used to it, as feeding them live guppies all the time is not practical. Marine food is also needed. Therefore, in my humble opinion, the experiment with fishing line should continue.

Christopher1774

How are the results with feeding the winged ones?

Jacqueline5976

Everything is still the same. Today they were just being fed. They don't react at all to the piece of feed, while they aggressively go after live fish. Next time, I'll try to find small sea fish, but it's unlikely that there is anything smaller than sprat in the stores.

Mariah

Live guppies can be offered on a fishing line along with a piece of sea bait. A kind of clever fish cocktail... Do all 4 eat guppies? Or is someone "on strike"?

Emily3144

Offtopic: And in the eyes - black caviar! And wrap everything in nori! Gourmet forum, some Yakitoria.

Emma

Off-topic. Yarik's winged ones don't want to eat marine feed. This is no laughing matter. Even if I have to dance with a tambourine on a broom, they need to be fattened up. Otherwise...

Ryan7682

Unfortunately, the appetite of the winged ones no longer concerns me much. The crypt took down several surgeons and one butterfly.

Sara4035

Too bad... Is it in the quarantine or in the reef?

Tiffany5069

This is in a marine aquarium that was planned for keeping fish that are either incompatible with corals or with the fish that are already in the two reefs. The aquarium is brand new, and almost all the fish are from a dealer, most likely purchased infected with crypto. The butterflyfish currently show no signs of disease, but the prognosis is not encouraging.

Jason

Was it not possible to quarantine the fish before placing it in this aquarium? Or, if there is no such option, to carry out antiparasitic prevention in the aquarium itself, using UV and an ozonator...?

Timothy

There is nowhere to quarantine. The fish were all brought in at once and placed in a nearly empty aquarium. The ozonator was connected. The UV is still on the way.

Amanda

In extreme cases, the aquarium is still for fish; at that moment, one could simply introduce a certain set of medications, lower the salinity, and something could have been saved. They could have asked on the forum, "This fish has arrived, what should be done..."

Melinda2740

Thank you. I still hope that we can save something. I read on the forum, both here and on . But everything happened very quickly. Literally overnight. We once had a crypto outbreak in our reef aquarium, but it didn't happen like that. There were about a dozen spots on several fish. We limited ourselves to adding vitamins to the food. A week later, there was no trace of crypto.

Alejandro

Has the rhinoceros already appeared?

Susan

Nope, it hasn't appeared... it's not here... I'm carefully watching the marketplace, but it's not in the supplies there...

Ryan

I saw a little one at the Aquarium Center.

Brandon9634

Let him swim with them, I need a big one, about 10-12 cm.

John5528

that was 5 cm, at most...

Michele9664

Could you tell me how the lighting is organized in the fish pond? Thank you.

Anna9752

About the same as in the reef... Because if there are beautiful surgeons, amphiprions, other pomacentrids, angels, their beauty needs to be highlighted, and that is within the power of actinics. Well, you can reduce it, but not by much. What do you plan to keep in it, and are you going to include some of the non-reef species, or is the way to the fish tank closed to them? I don't have them in mine, as just one Moti (triggerfish) would leave no spirit left, and there are also large angels, surgeons, and so on...

Judy

I am interested in the number of watts per liter, how much? I haven't decided on my aquarium yet, I'm at a crossroads, that's why I'm asking.

Jason

I have a 500-liter aquarium; it is lit by one 150W metal halide, two T8 Marina Glow, and one T8 Solar Marin JBL. All are 40W.

Dana6523

If there is a fish tank without problems, i.e., focusing on 8-10 large beautiful marine fish, not counting the small ones, I recommend getting the product from Faun Marin, kindly suggested to me by a friend, for which I am very grateful. In about three weeks, the entire interior became spotless, with no hint of darkening from various diatoms. It is completely harmless to fish and works for a long time. It is called Ultra Algae X.
