I had one like that. A beauty. But... The first one was a bit of a troublemaker. That's how I lost him. Although if he acclimatizes well, he eats like all surgeons - everything in sight. He's a bit aggressive, but not to the point of being frantic. He is quite capable of becoming the dominant fish in the aquarium. Corals and other things are of little concern to him. He will eat all the plants. He doesn't get along well with other surgeons that have a similar body shape. The most challenging combination is with the Japanese surgeon. That's where people and I have described how to keep them and how I managed to make them get along.
But the fish is easily stressed. Not like the Hepatus - much more delicate.
Angela
It also lives with me. It hasn't been caught doing anything bad. It eats everything that's given.
Amanda5586
What size does it grow to?
Michele
Is there no crypto on it?
John828
Well, great. Do you have any major surgeons left? Haven't you tried to "build" a newbie?
Chad9037
In this aquarium, only Helman, a pair of acellaris, a mandarin, and a dog live in 400 liters, and I don't plan to add any more surgeons.
Hannah
Dear sailors, has no one kept Acanthurus leucosternon - the White-breasted surgeonfish? A topic was created with questions for sailors, and everyone is silent, while the author is slowly answering his own questions. I am more than sure that the guys from Airif can share interesting insights, as well as Stas A. and Yarik. After all, this is one of the most beautiful surgeonfish, and this topic will help others solve issues related to keeping the white-breasted surgeonfish in the future. Please develop the topic.
Andrew419
I kept a white-bellied surgeon somewhere around 2006. At first, there were no problems; similarly, during the adaptation period, there were signs of crypt, but they quickly disappeared since the UV emitter was working and the water parameters were in the right range. The fish lived, if I remember correctly, for about a year, but one morning I found it dead on the bottom. The mystery of its sudden death has not been solved to this day. It was a beautiful fish, a bit aggressive, but I kept it at that time in a designated aquarium, as a single specimen, with peaceful neighbors of other species. It’s easy to imagine how it would have behaved if it had been in the company of other surgeons—it was a territorial fish.
Barbara
It is still worth paying serious attention to this point. When new tenants move in, whoever they may be, UV must be present! And it should work at the right moment. There is an opinion that this is a completely unnecessary item in a marine aquarium—after all, it supposedly heats the water(!).
Matthew1280
I used to think that fish were very difficult to keep, prone to illness, etc.
Then a message from iReef
Over the course of a year, several dozen white-bellied fish were brought in... they are completely undemanding, start accepting food on the 1st or 2nd day, transition to dry food quite quickly, in 2-3 days... Their behavior is like that of all surgeonfish - they are constantly eating... If necessary, they can stand up for themselves, I haven't noticed any aggression towards other surgeonfish.
They do get covered in spots, that's true!!! They can get spots like Hepatus at any moment, but they also quickly become clean again...
So, they are problem-free fish.
Todd8452
Couldn't resist, took some photos. Here are a handful of pictures (I used a point-and-shoot camera, so they're a bit worse than in reality).
James8887
Yes, handsome, definitely!!! Helmon is also quite nice.
Alec9378
Lyokha, don't forget that he is a vegetarian. Translate it for him on nori. My own is eating poorly, but is slowly starting to.
Jessica5348
What the hell is going on with you? I don't understand. Why are you stressed? I got stressed once during the launch. It has been alive for six months. Does it have enough cover?
Breanna9982
I won't understand myself. There are plenty of hiding spots, almost the entire back wall has about a dozen hiding spots, and not just hiding spots, but mazes. I'm waiting for tomorrow morning. There will be other conclusions.
Amy5070
As of 9 AM, there are no changes for the worse. Helman is not progressing; there is still a slight haze on the tail fin, sometimes he twitches his fins, and his appetite is excellent, very active. The rash on Belogrud has decreased by half; he is still a glutton, tearing the caulerpa to pieces, eating everything, and showing no fear. There is an idea to connect an ozonator; maybe it will help in this mess?
Jennifer7578
Plant two toros of shrimp or wrasse. Let them clean.
Jenny
Right away, the question arises where and from whom to get at least one TOR? And another one, what if I bring fresh crypto or some other junk with the TOR? P.S. As they say, my mom told me not to mess with fish, I didn't listen, now I'm in trouble... I turned on the ozonator, yesterday for a couple of hours and today in the morning, I didn't turn it on at night because I was afraid to leave it unattended. I'll report the results in the evening.
Kevin8087
They were in Ayrih. The weaver had them too.
Chelsea567
Hi. It's not worth tempting fate with ozone, especially without monitoring the potential resources. You can create a lot of problems.
April3499
One wrasse or one shrimp? If we're talking about the wrasse, you can only keep one in the aquarium! Otherwise, it will fight to the death!
Tina
Not necessarily. If you plant two at the same time, there shouldn't be any special problems.
Justin
It was often seen an aquarium with 5-7 dimidiatus wrasses in temporary holding, and there didn't seem to be any conflicts.
Michelle104
Denis, I agree that there can be problems. It's not powerful, and I turn it on with great caution, and when I can visually control everything, that is, based on the condition of the fish. It's a bit nerve-wracking, of course, but there is no other option for now, and time is the best filter (if it said in the morgue, then in the morgue).
Just kidding.
Igor, two is too many for me; even one would have something to eat. Anyway, at most these filters last half a year, and they die of starvation. At least I haven't seen a filter survive longer in a 500-600 liter aquarium with five fish. And there are stupid filters too (just like in our lives and among fish).
Stephanie9175
He will live alone. They eat almost anything. Including flakes.
And that's for sure! I planted mine together with the magnificent. About a month after planting, the wrasse suddenly went crazy and started chasing the magnificent. For a week, he didn't let her out of the rock. I thought he would kill her... But then he just stopped paying attention to her... He lived with me for about 4 months, and recently jumped out of the aquarium...

If you think I don't make mistakes, that's not true. I make them just like everyone else, a hundred times a day. You have my phone number. You didn't call. Bringing the topic to the forum is a public step. If there is nothing new in the posts, I apologize. If someone took something from the topic, then it wasn't in vain. Interesting topics and questions have been raised. Personally, I would say to you – analyze where you get the fish and how you plant it. And whether to immediately throw this type into the aquarium or not – that's a question not for the audience, but rather for the aquarium itself.
Stuart
Frozen feeds can partially introduce diseases. I recommend these feeds only during the fattening process. We try to avoid them as much as possible until the fish fully adapts to the aquarium's regime. Naturally, the white-breasted fish needs plant-based feeds and jelly-based compound feeds. But this is not a dogma. The fish itself is strong. And you have plants in your system. Moreover, I repeat, your pet is already showing positive dynamics. Just disturb it less. Check the nitrates. When introducing fish and feeding intensively, nitrate levels can rise. The lower they are, the better the healing.
Tara2761
I created this topic not to argue about where to buy fish, who the better sellers are, or who got lost. I've already spoken with about ten people over the phone. But the topic was created so that someone new could take something useful and educational from it, not for analyzing situations and idle chatter, as there's already enough nonsense in any topic. Your question-advice is not entirely clear to me. What does it mean that the whole problem is in the aquarium? What is wrong with it?
Daniel4967
In my system, there are 11 types of algae, only those that I know. I set it up for this purpose, and there are no competitors for it. It has plenty to eat, and there are many hiding places. All parameters are normal, based on yesterday's readings.
Parameters in the aquarium on October 19, 2010:
PH 8.2,
NO3 for six months 0,
PO4 for a couple of months 0.
NH3: ammonia 0
Ca 440-450,
KH 9
Mg 1400,
34-35 ppt.
In the morning +25, in the evening +26.
The aquarium is two years old, and the fish have not been sick at all.
The kids do not run around, and they do not slam the doors.
Sarah5423
Leha has a long fact from Kostya Morshnev about crypto. I read it and I trust him. Based on what I read, I decided that either my tenant is in or not - in the toilet. I can't do such a quarantine at home, and I don't need it anyway. I advise you to forget about UV. I think it will acclimate without it. Definitely buy cleaners. It's really effective. Good luck.
Frank7213
It just seemed that post No. 10 contained an invitation to a conversation. I read it again - it turned out that it only pertains to the listed items. You answered all the questions yourself.
Thomas5021
It's bad that I end up talking to myself and have to sort things out on my own. I can't believe that at home, besides Dmitry, no one keeps Acanthurus leucosternon - the White-bellied Surgeonfish; they only buy, hold, and sell them? Where are the marine aquarium enthusiasts whose surgeons, angels, and tangs have lived at home for three to five years? Where are their reviews? It's dark!
If you ask me about Helmanns, I will gladly provide you with information on how and what, including about feeding and acclimation, and health issues. And about successful keeping for more than one year.
I see this topic won't last long.
William
There is indeed no specificity. It all resembles speeches in the Roman Senate. Only for most of the speakers, it ended— as we know from history— with them being carried out feet first. Besides, the equipment being used is crap, and A. Leikosternon— unfortunately, an indestructible fish— is nothing. Oh yes, the aquarium might not be the right one, and the parameters in it are messed up...
Hey, owners of fancy fish, respond, share your experience in keeping them. If Alexey and I are mistaken in something, point it out. Is it really impossible to find anyone like that in the entire CIS?
Danielle9144
Well, you aimed for the entire CIS. I wrote about the fish. It pleased me for a long time, about a year. But then it died. It died from crypto. I actually messed it up myself, to be honest.
Jessica5016
It's very unpleasant that the fish is gone... I have a suggestion! We (iReef) can bring a white-breasted fish and keep it for as long as you want! We will definitely give you a healthy, well-fed one... and we have already kept and sent quite a few like that... they live, and it's not just luck... and the price is much lower!!! It seems to me that the fish you received was "a little" unhealthy... and that's where the problem arose...
John3165
I agree with you! Since I am a very stubborn person, I love the plain truth, and I am passionate about marine aquaristics, and I am fanatically goal-oriented in my work, I hope that Acanthurus leucosternon will appear in my life again soon, and I will be able to keep it. Blaming others is not in my rules; I need to work with my brain.
Jesse3979
Don't blame anyone! Anything can happen at sea... and we can't be sure of everything... Denis and I are more fans of the sea than...))) That's exactly why I suggested bringing the white-breasted one, to keep it for a while and guarantee everything one hundred percent!!!
Julie3950
I understand that Leha had liver problems. I don't get how Ayrif messed up like that((((.
Karen1649
It became clear even to a fool that the fish came to me weakened and with a weak immune system, which is why the crypts ate it again. After all, my aquarium is not young; it has 400 liters of clean water, and there have been no diseases at all for two years. A pair of Amphiprion ocellaris, Helman, and Mandarin are not sick and have never been sick.
Well, never mind that. I will wait for a new proper white-breasted fish from Airif and Denis, and of course, for Hipatus. These losses motivate me to make new purchases, but now from more reputable sources that provide a guarantee.
I will wait for the signal from you with anticipation.
Rebecca1419
cheered up
And what, are there no people in the air? There are losses there too...
Alexander
Exactly, damn it. I didn't finish reading. I apologize to Airif.
