I haven't caught a scorpionfish. But when I was fishing for it, it seemed to me that it also takes a lifeless, motionless bait. Although I could be mistaken.
Chad
You are probably not mistaken. Their eyesight is very sharp, so anything that falls from above, whether alive or not, immediately attracts their attention. It is very interesting to observe their behavior during feeding in the aquarium, but I won't describe it—you'll see it all for yourself...
Emily
This scorpionfish seems more suited for enthusiasts, as it is interesting only during feeding time; otherwise, it prefers a "sedentary" lifestyle, especially during the day... and they also like to jump out of the aquarium.
Emily
Well, here it really depends on the person... I remember one client who loved his a (that's what he called it) to madness. And when I asked him what exactly attracted him to it, he replied - the horns on its head...
Tami
By the way, it's not difficult to catch a scorpionfish. I caught a lot of small ones by hand. But I think there is one drawback to the scorpionfish - it will eat everything that fits in its mouth, and it has a big mouth.

That's for sure! I once brought home one that was about 10 cm long. For the first week, it hid and burrowed in the sand; it was very timid. Then it started attacking everything and eating it, there's no other way to put it. It was gulping down pieces of squid that were a third of its body size.

My fish jumped out, now it's only in a closed aquarium. Otherwise, it's a trouble-free fish, just eats a lot. By the way, when I arrived, it was almost black and white, and with each molt, it became more and more red (or rather, purple).

She is beautiful... Wishing you good content...

Oh, I was looking for someone to give me a little sculpin, but I couldn't find anyone. Friends who love marine aquaristics, can you tell me where I can get a tiny sculpin?
Tanya
It's unlikely that anyone has a small scorpionfish available right now. Wait until at least May, and then go to the Black Sea. There, you can resolve all your questions.
Shane
Yes, that's clear. It's just that there is such a concept as "What if," although waiting until May wouldn't hurt.
Erica
Black Sea scorpions thrive well in a marine reef aquarium, with care and feeding similar to that of butterflyfish.
Leonard
I caught one this year, but decided to release it. I only kept the hermit crabs and horse anemones with mussels. Somehow, it didn't fit into the overall picture of the aquarium in my opinion, but even after observing it for a couple of hours, I realized that the fish is very interesting.

I had scorpion fish for about two years; they ate all the shrimp and small fish, and they lived together in a 130-liter aquarium with only a skimmer for filtration and no light. It's a pity they died when the temperature rose above 30°C. If there are options for getting greenlings and sand eels, as well as other small fish, I would buy them, as I can't go to Crimea, and the aquarium for the Black Sea is set up and functioning, but I can't buy fish in Kyiv.

It would be better for you to keep them in a spacious cage by the sea for these 7-10 days and then take them when you leave.

This wouldn't be the ideal solution, but I've been on the road for 7 days (visiting relatives), so it's not possible. I plan to arrive home tomorrow evening; it will be easier there. Can you tell me if it's possible to feed sculpins with earthworms?
Dana6523
It's better not to feed them on the road, but you can do it in case of extreme necessity, just remember that it's not their food. Otherwise, you can give them finely chopped squid, mussels, fish, and shrimp.
