It is preferable to use two nets: one for chasing and the other for catching.
Alicia5489
I tried it, net in the water, fish in the reef, and after about 30 minutes, they come out.
Curtis
Have you tried it like this?
Keith7534
So no one argues about that!, but the idea is rational.

There are traps for fish, cool things.
I'll say right away, nets are all evil! Whether it's 2 or 5, after 2-3 rounds with a net, the fish will go under the live rocks, and you'll be waiting half a day. Moreover, catching with a net constantly is a strong stress for other fish. When I was fishing, the Hepatus would start to stress immediately, and the Cryptocoryne would play dead. Of course, if there are no corals, it's possible, but if there are, there will be plenty of problems. When I was catching a wrasse, I killed 2 Euphyllias with a net, and still, nothing came of it; I had to dismantle the reef to zero.
So, only traps.

If the attitude towards fish is not too tender, you can use a fishing rod, just make sure to file down the barb on the hook. But a trap is still more humane.
Joseph8842
Traps help, but only partially. For some species - just a hook or THINK about what fish and why, you instill in a new little house........ I remember catching apogon with a friend - it was a great fishing trip, lasting a month. I caught it on a jig.

I don't know about marine aquariums specifically... But in my freshwater one, I also faced the problem of catching fish (especially barbs and algae eaters). I used a net, a glass aquarium, and a clear plastic cup! The most important thing in this process is not to make sudden movements, and of course, not to harm the fish! I had instances where the fish swam into the aquarium by themselves.
Phyllis
Maybe we should set up a network?

About 5 years ago, I made a harpoon for a friend, or rather a gun.
The effect was zero. The trap worked better.
Michael
Harpoon??? How is that? Then it's better to use dynamite, just to be sure.
Selena4467
Classic setup - hook, line, piece of squid or shrimp. No fishing rods.
Hook damage - 99% heals if not thrown in the trash.
Judy
It's still a pity for the fish! And it's worth clarifying that the classic approach implies removing the barb from the hook; otherwise, it can seriously harm the fish. (That's the fisherman speaking now.)

You can try using a transparent cellophane bag. The bag contains water, and you can also add bait.
I catch large Astronotus with a bag. No injuries, and the water doesn't splash all over the room. Then I just pour it into another container.
The main thing is to ensure that the large fish doesn't puncture the bag. In that case, you should take 2-3 bags.
Nicholas2252
this is only possible with freshwater, in a marine aquarium the bag will be blown away by the current

Maybe she is right, but it might be useful for people somewhere.

Hello everyone on the forum! I registered about 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't find a reason to post a message.
Well, a reason has come up (unfortunately)! I just cleaned the aquarium, and in the process of catching a little catfish, I had to turn the aquarium over, and the stones buried the catfish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is alive, fortunately, but he is sitting on the bottom and moving very little. He tried to swim a couple of times, but it seems to be difficult for him right now - after such attempts, he immediately goes back to the bottom and doesn't move. How can I help him???? And what is the best way to catch catfish?
Ryan2281
Well! What a friendly forum this is, no one even responded. The catfish died because of my carelessness and quite possibly due to the indifference of the forum members, although this information probably won't interest anyone. I guess I'll have to look for other "nicer" forums...

In short, don't listen to all the fuss about hooks and harpoons. To be honest, it's difficult, but from my fishing experience, I can say, turn off the light completely at night, then wait a few hours until the fish fall asleep. It's easy to tell; they seem to be in a trance, and even when you tap on the glass, they hardly react and stay in one place. That's when you can catch them quietly using very dim light. Personally, I would get up at 2 a.m. to fish.
Phillip9722
Got it, good luck!!!! First, you need to find out where the spinorog and the angel sleep. Then what, break the stones to get them out? Nonsense. What fishing experience are you talking about? Scalar, maybe?
Either a hook or a trap, and nothing else will work.
Wendy
I tried to catch according to the points mentioned above. I caught one clownfish on a hook in five minutes, but I spent a week trying to catch the second one and had no luck. Neither the trap (where all the fish except the one I needed swam in like it was home) nor the hook worked. I cut two pieces of glass to the width of the aquarium, lowered them to the bottom, and started removing the stones (not all the stones, just 40 cm, since my aquarium is 2 meters long). I pulled out the last stone and calmly caught it with a net. I thought I was going to lose my mind with this fishing.
Martha
When I tried to catch 7 Danio rerio, I turned the whole aquarium upside down. I had to remove almost all the plants, driftwood, and equipment... I thought I was going to have a panic attack.
Cindy
Guys, this is about sea fish, not freshwater ones; the sea is not a freshwater body, you are not addressing the right place, and for the wrong reason.
Corey3201
What kind of units are these? Can they be viewed somewhere? Maybe you could provide a link or a photo?

Oh... Sorry, I didn't notice...

Recently, a client spotted a male cardinal fish (Sphaeronema neoptera) with eggs. He sat for half a day, hoping to catch it. It's not convenient to dismantle the client's reef. Once again, I am convinced that fish clearly know WHO THEY CAME FOR. In general, I crafted artificial "diadem sea urchins" from a sponge and bamboo skewers, placed them in the aquarium, and hope that at least some of the little ones, when their father spits them out, will remember nature and hide in their "spines."

Mormyshka and bloodworm. Or the corresponding hook.
Christopher8654
For a male with eggs in its mouth, not eating until the larvae are released - it is not relevant.

Imagine if it turns out the way you planned. Yarik, let me know if everything works out.
