You have posted not an old and a new model, but two completely different foamers with different operating principles. The first one is an external foamer with a foaming pump. A Schutzer is needed to supply water to the flask. The second one is a regular immersion foamer with a venturi. The foamers belong to the "quality China" segment; I haven't heard how they work.

I use one like this, it stands next to the sump, not in the water, water is supplied to the flask through this fitting using a pump.
