Hello! The green strip is the area where the water level should be when you place the salinity meter in it. You just need to submerge the float in the water and see at which mark the water is. But I recommend spending about 350-500 right away and getting a refractometer.

Erin

I understood that I was just putting it in the aquarium, but it needs to be lowered into that green zone, then it will show what level it is. Does it show right away if it needs to be held for some time to get more accurate information? (But I recommend spending about 350-500 right away and getting a refractometer). Could you possibly suggest which model to buy? Thank you.

Antonio

It will show the accuracy of the readings at 25 degrees right away. Look for someone who was selling it on the forum.

Pour clean water from the aquarium into a clean container and gently lower the Salimeter without dropping or submerging it. It will sink by itself according to the density and show you. The density reading should be between 1.022 and 1.025. Here is a photo. Aqua Medic Salimeter. And a link for which Refractometer to buy.

Thomas

and yes, his readings will greatly depend on the water temperature.

So if I understand correctly, I take water from the aquarium, drop the salimeter, and I need to check the scale to see what the reading is at a temperature of 25. If the temperature in the aquarium is higher, at 26.5, will the reading be inaccurate? Thank you for the link to the refractometer, but I don't think the seller from Sevastopol will be able to ship it, but I will try to write to him.

Yes, buy a refractometer on eBay and don't suffer.

Alexandra

That's exactly when the suffering will begin! Cheap Chinese refractometers do not have ATC!!!!! Even though it says ATC on them! I ran around the city for 2 days measuring salinity in aquariums until I took it apart and realized that there is no temperature compensation!
