Good afternoon. I used this Boyu FT320, the most affordable and simple one. I know one thing: you need to match the pump to any reactor so that the carbon doesn't boil, unlike with anti-phosphate, as dust will be produced from any carbon due to friction.

Thank you. I only found this one... I thought there were no "places" I didn't know... Right now I have coal from Fauna Marin, I just took it as a test, but they recommend a pump of no more than 200 l/h. In general, I still need to read more... it's difficult without knowledge of the matter...

It is very important to take this into account; I once did something similar, everything in the aquarium was completely black, and then I struggled for a long time to get rid of it.

I have tried many different types of coal, and any of them dusts when boiling; you can't see it with your eyes, but when you run your hand over the glass in the aquarium, it turns black. I read on the reef central that SPS get slimy during this process. Right now, I have in my homemade flask on a flow without boiling, half with anifos on iron.

Why with antifos on iron? They say it works better on aluminum... or what?

Iron lasts longer (about two to three times), although it works relatively slower than aluminum. If you need to get results quickly (which is harmful), then aluminum is the choice. If used for a long time on aluminum, there is increased aluminum in the water (confirmed at an overseas reef center with the TRITON test), and many corals (SPS, LPS) experienced stress (though it was used continuously for 2-3 years). Iron also emits some background radiation, but it is quickly absorbed in the sea.

Here, the details about coal are thoroughly described: quantity per volume, tasks, replacement deadlines. The first part of this article is also informative.

Thank you, I read this and similar things about 7 years ago... but I haven't dealt with reactors, so I opened this topic to find out where and which one to buy. I just bought coal from Fauna Marin, and they have their own recommendations, I'm attaching a screenshot. I also dug around and found some interesting Western links for designs.

In the video, they use Sichema antifos, while the coal is from another manufacturer. I covered the entire aquarium with black Sichema coal (carbon), then filled it into nets, and it no longer dusted.

What does it mean in the grid? Without a reactor? I had it hanging in a bag in the sump for seven years, and everyone was satisfied... But the current prices for everything have pushed me towards more economical use of coal. I used different types of coal, recently "two small fish." I used medium fraction, rinsed it thoroughly with boiling water, and had no problems... Some manufacturers provide their recommendations, and I try to follow them. Thank you all, I found a reactor.

Special nets for coal or antifos are for sale, you can use a women's stocking. And the net (stocking) in the reactor. What did you find? And why coal, you do replacements every week?

Andrea8397

I didn't think you could use a mesh in the reactor...
