The compressor prevents air from entering the system; it is needed at startup and if air accidentally gets into the system. It can run continuously as a backup. There are plenty of options for overflows. I have my eye on the Tunze 1074/2...
Kevin
So, the compressor actually expels air rather than pumping it in, right?
Randall7906
It uses a pump that will transfer air or water from the drain to the aquarium, correctly called an aqua-lifter pump. It looks like a compressor, but in addition to the outlet, there is also an inlet for a narrow tube.

Now everything is clear.

What is the throughput of the overflow you have chosen?
Alejandro
Specifically, the Tunce 1074/2 has a capacity of 1200 l/h.
Lindsey3628
And for what volume of aquarium is this sufficient?
Debra
Anyone with the appropriate return pump can, by the way, deliver a second tube there, and its output will increase to 1500 l/h...
