It is possible.
Helen
Maybe you could suggest how to implement this practically?

The law of communicating vessels.

When the feed pump stops, the inlet will become air-locked and everything will stop. Why not drill through the glass? Release some water and drill. I did it that way - it worked fine.

A regular siphon overflow is made, and when the power is turned off, the water remains in the overflow container (I don't mention the pipe because the cross-section can be of any configuration, depending on the need and the possibility of manufacturing). We have had such systems in our office for 8 years on one rack, and there are no problems.

Could you draw it? I can hardly imagine such a structure.

It hasn't been aired for 4 months. Here are the pictures.

But I would rather drill glass.

Due to my work, I have to deal with aging management and ensuring the integrity of various metal and non-metal components. Do you remember the fairy tale where the mouse ran and caught its tail on something...? And there are residents living under the aquarium. And there are many of them. If the side sump is an extension of the aquarium, then you can drill confidently. After all, a hole is a stress concentrator, and glass is not plasticine.

The overflow between the aquarium and the box sump is a convenient and reliable thing. I've been using it for years, and it has never let me down. Even when partially air-locked, it works...

Well, they buried it like a mammoth.

Always at your service, sir.

I am planning a side sump in a separate aquarium. The sump aquarium is a few centimeters higher. Can I set up a water intake through a pump in the sump and discharge the water like a hang-on filter? Is that possible or not?

It will bubble a lot, it's already been tested.

This cannot help but be upsetting (((((

If it doesn't hurt the eyes, the sponge held by clothespins is quite normal. It has been working for 3 weeks.

I also want to somehow send the feeding pump to the sump.

I have a hang-on skimmer on one aquarium, and water spills out through a tube. At first, it bubbled a lot, and almost everything in the aquarium was white, but after a month and a half of operation, now the bubbles only come for about an hour after turning it on (I turn it off when I feed the corals). Yes, I need to come up with something for the feed pump...
