You shouldn't let it get stale; there's nothing for the skimmer in fresh water. Use water from the aquarium (after a water change, for example). As a last resort, a little food, but it's still not the same.

I disagree, to check the skimmer, the water should be seawater. My aquarium is still in the preparation stage and I don't have any "old" seawater. That's why I'm asking what to add to fresh seawater to test the skimmer's operation? For example, sugar (I read somewhere). Or maybe just urinate in the water. Huh?

Ideally, the water should be salted. Density affects the skimmer... It seems to me that it can only be tested in the aquarium. Since the skimmer doesn't start working properly right away. Sometimes it takes a week or two for it to settle in.

This is not a joke; I can't provide a link to where this was discussed about two years ago right now, but the essence is that the composition of Akutan includes this polyvinyl..., which is responsible for the foaming of Akutan. God grant that it be so, but the permissible amount of organic matter in the sea and freshwater are incomparable. In the sea, the foam must eliminate even the slightest impurities, and achieving this is not so easy.
