or the APC smart is the smallest, although their prices are steep
Justin9867
Have you tried putting them on pumps? Cheap ups will wear out the pump in no time.
Amber1273
Can you describe it in more detail? It costs this much and holds the pump for that long... something like that. Thank you.
James4757
Have you noticed that during operation from the UPS, the sound of the pump and compressor changes? If the UPS is poor, it outputs what is called an approximated sine wave, which in Russian is referred to as a stepped wave. For the operation of motors, even simple ones like in the pump, a normal smoothed wave is needed. Although it must be acknowledged that in the case of short-term operation from the UPS, it won't significantly "shake" the motor.
Sarah
I'm not talking about the manufacturer))) I'm against guano))) I haven't used ups, I'm not aware of how they work, etc.! That's exactly why I have the question about what is needed and what is better!!! The cost is not an issue; if it's necessary, then it's necessary...
Crystal
I have this wonder that runs for 2 hours with a pump and compressor. It cost 300 dead US presidents.
Alyssa6727
ARS is the most pretentious brand of uninterruptible power supplies, but I must admit the quality is fine. Although if it's from China, you can expect anything)))))))
Dana4701
I have an online UPS APC with 4 additional batteries of 60Ah.
But it costs "until morning." However, it reserves power for the entire apartment, including some loads in the aquarium.
But there are indeed Chinese options that produce a sine wave and are quite worth their money.
For example, something like this.
I've been selling these for a long time, so Iām not ashamed to recommend them.
Mitchell7972
What batteries does it support?
Michael
The price of such a UPS is such that it will be much cheaper to replace the rotor if it gets shaken. However, it takes quite a long time for it to get shaken. It is not completely sinusoidal; it only operates in that way when running on battery, and for all other times, it is quite sinusoidal, plus there is voltage stabilization and surge protection.
It turns off.
I don't see the point in buying a "smart" one.
The beeping will also turn off.
With a load of 20-30 watts, even the least powerful UPS will run on battery for hours.
P.S. I would buy Powercom.
Danny
Problems when operating motors on non-sinusoidal voltage are not only about the risk of the rotor being "shaken." When powered by distorted waveforms, eddy currents are generated in the windings, which lead to heating of the stator core. The winding can simply overheat. And I am sure that replacing the rotor on some cheap UPS is less expensive than initially buying a proper one.
Gregory
The 500VA models support batteries up to 60Ah. The 1000VA models support up to 100Ah. More powerful models support up to 200Ah. Sealed gel batteries should be used. The same manufacturer has them. They are often installed on boilers in private homes. The pump motor (often Grundfos, by the way) really likes sine wave. It works for years for people and around the clock without makeshift power.
Debbie3587
The experiment conducted by our forum member revealed that the capacity of the battery is more important than the power of the UPS. Therefore, for our purposes (supporting pumps, filters, etc.), we need a UPS with a larger battery. If you're interested, I can repeat the experiment by powering aquarium equipment with a regular computer UPS.
Christine
Hey, can I get the price in private? And for the batteries too.
Shelby3182
To be honest, I didn't think that "onlan" could cost around 1000. At that price, and if the quality of the product is up to par, then of course Luxeon would be better.
Thomas5021
that is exactly what was of interest.
Specifically, the type of batteries.
Reginald5073
Type of batteries - gel, maintenance-free.
What else to mention about them?
Brand? For example, this one:
60Ah LUXEON LX 12-60G
Gel, Capacity: 60Ah, Dimensions (LxWxH mm): 260 x 169 x 210, Weight: 17kg
Tanner
Thank you.
Can I get the prices in private? For everything -)))
Thank you.

So, if we talk about a specific example, for a load of 20-50 watts, which device should be chosen? It should have protection and be able to work for about 6-7 hours?
Monica
Such power UPSs are not produced. You need to take the minimum one with a sine wave and the ability to connect external batteries. That's it.
Kevin3114
Could you please provide more details if you know how to turn off (desolder, break, and what it actually looks like) the APC CS500? It's connected to the computer, and I don't put it on the aquarium because the beeping drives me crazy. I'm considering using either a used APC (Mustek) or a Luxion 500C inverter for the aquarium (stream 15W + hanging filter 6W + possibly a 25W air pump). I haven't made a final decision yet (the beeping is annoying, and I don't know how to desolder it).
Robert800
look for something like this-)))
Martin3206
Well, just remove the "pen" and that's it. Although that's not quite right. Tape his pen with duct tape. It will be noticeably less of a hassle.
Angela6489
APC with official support for external batteries cost a fortune. Among the more affordable options are Luxeon I Ippon. There are also our UPS models that can work with large batteries, but I haven't heard any reviews about them anywhere.
By the way, a question arose about voltage stabilization before the aquarium - I held Luxeon 1000 and 3000 VA in my hands, and since my APC 1200 VA clearly weighs more than the Luxeon 3000, as far as I understand, they saved on the transformer. Can anyone tell me how this will affect performance? The biggest consumer is 2 * 150W with electromagnetic ballasts O_o at startup.
David4089
Thereās some nonsense with the settings in CS. I struggled for a long time before I figured out how to set the voltage threshold. Do you still have the manual?
If thereās no manual, then take wide double-sided tape and cover the buzzer, you can use two layers...
I just found my manual for this UPSāthereās no option to turn it off, just tape or cutters.
Dana6523
Does the uninterruptible power supply "understand" what capacity the additional battery is connected? It should charge the additional battery...
Stephen
Off-topic I'm planning to get one like this. UPS What do you think, what are the drawbacks or advantages?
Alexander
There is such a device:
How to correctly understand: "...Stepwise approximation of the sine wave..."? Is it safe for the ejector pump?
Sara4035
This is a sine wave "composed" of a bunch of impulses and "smoothed" by a capacitor-)))
Jessica6754
So, for the pump...??? Is it suitable or not?
Chad231
I'm thinking of getting an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) since the power has been frequently going out! Can you tell me if I buy an Off-Line UPS, will the sine wave (square wave) significantly affect my Fluval 305 pump? I think the motor won't be running constantly on the battery, only occasionally when the power goes out, or could the windings burn out or something else happen?
And I can't figure out the batteries; the load will be 25 watts. What capacity battery do I need to last a day?
Thanks in advance!
Joshua9340
A sinusoidal curve can be harmful to the engine. The stator (windings) may overheat. Of course, it all depends on the duration of operation in such a mode.
Regarding the battery - this question is often asked. Sellers use a simplified formula - Holding time = Battery voltage * Capacity in Ah / Load power. So in your case, 12*46/23=24.00. The formula gives an error with longer holding times. Therefore, it is advisable to have a margin. The nearest known nominal value for a gel battery is 60Ah. It approximately costs $120-140.
Phillip9722
Hello everyone.
Guys, can you help me?
Is it possible to get
an APC Back-UPS CS 500 VA (BK500-RS)?
Will it be suitable for marine aquarium equipment (for the pumps)?
Here is the link to the specifications.
Jason5071
This is a regular offline situation. But if the power goes out for a short time, it will be fine. For example, nothing will happen to the pumps in an hour or two.
Angela7060
The pump may not start with such a UPS, it depends on how the situation unfolds. To clarify: it may start every other time (depending on how the rotor is positioned in the pump).
Todd8452
Thank you for the answers. They are quite satisfactory. I will ask the seller if I can take it for a test for a day or two.
Stacey4437
There, the native batteries are usually weak and not designed for pumps at all! It will be necessary to connect reinforced batteries!
Scott9892
Batteries are rated not for load (and even less for its "character"), but for the duration of operation when powered by batteries.
Stephanie4990
I would recommend looking at the UPS from this manufacturer. These UPS units were developed (specifically by yours truly, although I no longer work with them) for heating system engines. They have a fairly clean sine wave and a 10 A charging capacity. Check the website for a description, and they are sold in many cities; the main thing is to find them. There are both online and offline systems available on the site.
Veronica
the price is NOT pleasing.
Sheila1322
Yes.
But these systems were originally designed to work with external large-capacity batteries. Any UPS with a true sine wave (which does not "break down" under inductive load) costs more than one with a "approximated" sine wave.
At the KIP exhibition, automation and energy (in Kharkiv), I saw such a system; the guys said that it seemed to have a sine wave. The cost of this UPS was either $130 or $150.

apc-back-ups-rs-500va
I have been using this UPS for a year. It powers a 1200L water pump, a 250L pump, and a small Octopus skimmer for 8-10 hours.
The power goes out frequently for about 10 hours, but I have no plans to replace the UPS! All the pumps in the aquarium (except for the corals) are connected through this UPS, and I turn it off once a day for feeding the invertebrates. None of the pumps have failed. Everything is fine with the startups.
For an aquarium up to 100 liters, it's quite sufficient! Beyond that, more powerful pumps are needed, so testing is required.
Samuel6138
Max, what is the total wattage? (What a statement)
I had a case where they repaired a transformer for 12.5 hours. When I got home, the UPS (ARS 500) was already not working. It had a 20W pump connected to it. The truth is, I had just bought it... It might be like with a mobile phone - you need to break in the battery... But if it lasted even 6 hours, that's a very good indicator.
By the way, the price for this happiness at the radio market is around 700.
Breanna9982
10-12 watts. I'm saying that it's for small jars where the pumps are not powerful.
Cindy
Off-topic for those interested. There is a new APC Smart-UPS 750va at a very reasonable price (I'll sell it for what I paid). I bought it for myself, but my priorities have changed.
Patricia
How long can a marine aquarium last without circulation? I want to have a sea, but the lights are turned off quite often for 10-12 hours. If I buy a UPS with a backup for 10-12 hours, what will happen after another 10-12 hours without electricity?
Mark7376
It also depends a lot on the volume. From my experience, I can say that 35 liters can hold for no more than 10 hours - after that, the fish jump out of the tank.
John3142
sad(... what if the volume is 150-200 liters?
Wesley
150-200 is normal, there will be about 125-150 liters of pure water. If the fish (2-3 pieces) and corals are not overfed, and the system reaches the 3-month mark (individually), it might withstand infrequent shutdowns of 10-12 hours. Although either cyanobacteria or some other nuisance may appear...
Charles5941
It's unlikely to last 10-12 hours; we need either a stream, or a cooler, or a battery-powered compressor for that time anyway. Or we could get an uninterruptible power supply with an additional connectable battery, or an inverter (with a function to charge the battery from the outlet) and a car battery rated at 60 amp-hours.
Travis572
I indicated that everything is individual. Even in the frequency of power outages. Before the transformer repair, my longest downtime was 13-14 hours. Among the consequences and disappointments, cyanosis occurred.
John3142
How did you like the 3 days last winter? Luckily, there was a generator. Otherwise, not only the aquarium would have died...
Michelle5859
I'm without power again, but at least I have a netbook. I set up the return pump 2000L Atman - it's been running fine for 3 hours... I think it will last for another 2 hours.
Jill9137
On TV, they offer a miracle box that saves 30% on electricity costs. I don't believe in miracles because I have some knowledge of electricity, but in the picture, it looks like a sine wave enhancer. Could such a box be installed after the UPS? Does anyone know what this smart device is?
Erica752
Can you explain for the girls which UPS I need to get if I want to have a working return pump and skimmer for 6-10 hours? Is it important for them to consider these "sinusoids" or can I go to any electronics store?
Karen
I read a discussion about this box on some forum, where electricians explained in simple terms that it's nonsense and a scam for suckers, but I can't find the link anymore...
Melissa3200
Hello. Regarding the topic, my inverter is slightly more powerful than what the TS indicated. I use it as an uninterruptible power supply for the pump in the heating system of a private house and for marine aquariums - the CyberPower CPS 1000 E inverter provides a pure sine wave, so the pump works fine. No complaints. Here is the description for it.
Jeremy
Colleagues,
A bit off-topic:
Who knows how to turn off the beeper in the ARS 500?
It went off a couple of times, and now my wife is asking to disable it for the future.
Do I need to discharge it beforehand? Are there any specific features?
Thank you in advance.
Christopher4125
Take a piece of tape or adhesive tape and cover the hole in the buzzer. If it bothers you a lot, desolder it; there's no need to discharge, just disconnect the battery before disassembly. Be careful, there is high voltage.
Patricia
I broke it, and the tape only muffles the sound, but it's still annoying and irritating.
April3499
Regular tape and electrical tape transmit sound well and only slightly muffle the beeper. You need something thicker and preferably foam or just sticky. Chewing gum is probably the best option. I have covered beepers several times with thick double-sided tape (2-3mm). It significantly reduces the sound. After assembling the case, it is barely audible. Completely eliminating the sound is not advisable, as you might accidentally miss a shutdown or malfunction.
Jamie3553
Yarik, I can't quite get it... We have the same UPS - mine only beeps when it's turned on or off, and during a power outage, it doesn't make a sound!
Michelle104
It squeaked for 8 hours while KEnergo was fiddling with something on the transformer...
Karen81
an interesting device... but their website does not mention one parameter - the Phi angle... can you check it in the documentation for your UPS?!
Nicole7268
I use this one. All pumps work perfectly, you can adjust the characteristics of "left" generators, and it is reasonably priced.
Shane
I will raise the topic. What are the opinions on UPS today? There is a need to power two aquariums of 500 and 50 liters. Thank you!
Thomas5021
Old opinions - total power consumption of equipment.
Heather9815
It's clear, but what about the models? I understand that with an external battery (there is 140 Ah), the optimal choice is...
Jessica5348
The most important thing is the power and the sinusoidal voltage at the output. And the manufacturer depends on the wallet.
Ronald
The point is that with a price starting from 2000 for a UPS, it is already more cost-effective to install a generator for the whole house.
Richard
A normal generator from 4-6 thousand. In my opinion.
Frank7213
Yes, that's what I'm saying, so with the generator, there will also be power for the refrigerator and much more.
