The absence of a sump will greatly affect the choice of possible equipment and will additionally spoil the appearance of the aquarium. It will make it very difficult to install anything larger than just a skimmer, such as a calcium reactor and a flow reactor for various chemicals. If you are going for a marine setup, I would still recommend using a sump. Regarding noise, there are methods to create a drain with minimal noise, such as Durso or Stockman. When properly set up, they are not very noisy. External canisters for marine setups are a bad idea.

Durso or Stockman -- what is that???

The drain is completely silent. Only the skimmer makes noise, and possibly the return pump (and not all of them). The noise can be eliminated, for example, by soundproofing the tube. The only thing is that the intake of the foam and the ventilation of the cabinet should be directed to another room.

This is a specially designed system of pipes for drainage.
For example, here are recommendations (further along and in pictures) for Durso.
Here is about Stockman.
And here is a discussion.

Do SAMPS and don't worry!!! Look: SAMPS are at the bottom, in the cabinet. The cabinet is soundproofed, so sounds from the cabinet hardly reach you. And now - there's no samp: oh horror, where to put all this equipment, how ugly it sticks out, and it makes noise too. But how am I supposed to make my little algae?...
