I had my MH lights on for almost 18 months, I installed new bulbs... I didn't notice any changes in burning or starting... maybe the problem is with the ballasts?

I am 100% sure that a used lamp may not always ignite, may not ignite on the first try, and may go out by itself during operation. This is usually caused by the "burning out" of the electrodes in the lamp.

Dear specialists, please advise what disadvantages, besides the magnetic ballast and appearance, simple fluorescent lamps used for outdoor lighting have? How feasible is it to use them for "marine" applications?
Erin
It is quite possible to use simple MG projectors in freshwater and seawater, but the right lamps need to be installed. Good luck!

How true is the myth that if the lamp's resource is exhausted while using an electronic ballast, the lamp or ballast can explode?
Destiny
Nonsense. The lamp can burst if hot water droplets hit it or if the lamp is not degreased with alcohol during installation.

The MH lamp can explode at any time, not necessarily after the resource has been exhausted. Therefore, protective glass is essential in MH fixtures! And ballasts do not explode.

I have a metal halide lamp 10000K - 150W. Its lifespan was used up a long time ago, but it still emits some light. It doesn't think about exploding. And it won't explode, it will just die...

My igniter blew up, and the contacts on the 400-watt lamp melted. Usually, there’s nothing in the electronic ballast that can explode.

I sincerely sympathize. I hope things didn't go further than the melted contacts?
