I don't have very good impressions of these lamps; the light is quite yellow, and in my opinion, there is a lack of the red part of the spectrum. If used for color purposes, there isn't much difference. In combination with blue lamps, it's quite acceptable, but I would use blue in combination with "plant" lamps if aesthetics are needed. T5 lamps require special ballasts, which allow them to last longer and provide appropriate brightness, but in their absence, you can use ballasts of the necessary rating.
