• Question about the Black Sea

  • Bonnie

I have a Black Sea aquarium and wanted to know which Black Sea plants can live well in it. Is there anyone from the Black Sea sailors on the forum? (I really wanted to find live stones in the Black Sea, but where I went, there were none.) Oh, I almost forgot, where can I find hermit crabs Clibanarius? Thank you in advance.

Amy9618

I live................I can during the week, if I have time, under Odessa I can gather you at least 100 kg of J.K. (living stones).

John3432

Representatives of this genus are widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical waters of all oceans; by the way, they are very useful for controlling the growth of filamentous algae in marine aquariums.

Collin

hermit crabs Clibanarius, encountered on the southern coast, beautiful, with red claws, but if it has grown to carry a rapana with a nut, I suspect it will be a small bulldozer, very strong. But it happened that I closely examined the sand ones, which seem to be like Diogenes, correct me if I'm wrong, where one claw is always larger. And like these, they sift through the sand with different claws... I was amazed, and then I wondered, which of them is the bigger worker??? Or do they have different specializations?

Zachary

Odessa, don't you have a desire to help your fellow sand diggers with catching and delivering Black Sea hermits while it's still warm? Not for free.

Barbara8192

Yes, those Diogenes are quite the workers! I have about twenty living with me. But I also want to keep some Calcinus, I really like them, but alas, they can't be found on the sand (and where I was, it was all sand, not a single pebble). As for the live rocks from the Black Sea, plants, and Calcinus, I wouldn't mind diversifying the landscape of my sandbox, and I see I'm not the only one. Naturally, not for free.

I will try to gather some stones for the Wind, and if I see any hermits, I will certainly try to catch them... although honestly, I have never done this before and I don't even know where to look for them yet. I will do it free of charge, and if I catch any, I will send them to you along with the package for the Wind.

Angela7060

Hooray, thank you, thank you. If needed, I will be in Kyiv from the 11th to the 15th and can bring Diogenes; I have Black Sea Diogenes.

Jennifer7578

In a tropical aquarium, diogenes will die!!! Only clibanarius can be kept, which are not found here.

Stephanie4990

In the tropical aquarium, the diogenes live and don't blow in the claw. They have been living in my resana for over a year. I just have very few of them. So, I'll buy the beer (or other drinks of your choice).

Laura4892

Okay, see you later then.

Russell8484

I am sending the stones today by train at 22:20 from Odessa to Dnipro. I was looking for hermit crabs today, but it was getting late and it was raining, so I couldn't find anything. I found 2-3 empty shells, and there were clearly no hermit crabs in them. I saw many sea needles and also saw one small seahorse. I will try again on the weekend if I can. However, they are predicting rain here, but the water is still warm at +21 degrees.

Stephen5841

Does it refer to the Odessa coast?

Kathy

Finally, the arrived stones have been cleared! A HUGE THANK YOU! So much happiness has come that we barely made it home. A bunch of cute little creatures popped out from the stones, and my horses are absolutely thrilled with the overgrown greenery of the stones!

Carrie1606

If you happen to see the calibrators, please let me know.

Marie5735

necessarily

Vanessa

Can I have a photo of the pebbles?

Brooke

Yes, I would gladly do it, but the camera is not with me for now. As soon as it arrives in a few days, I will definitely post it.

Andrew9581

waiting

Nancy

And where did they get the Diogenes?

Brenda

I don't remember who, but someone from the forum brought it last autumn. From Crimea.

Stephanie9175

Last year, in July, I brought 6 Diogenes from Skadovsk. One died last winter, the others are alive and healthy.

Joshua9847

I probably had a big salinity drop; I tried three times unsuccessfully, while the Crimean ones adapt perfectly.

Jennifer5784

Yes, the Crimean hermits live well in the M.A. (marine aquarium).

Caleb6320

And so a small photo session of my Black Sea. General landscape-- My favorite horses This is the kind of interesting and cute creatures that live in the sea. The horses are thrilled by the stones!

Jonathan6173

Amazing animals. Have they formed a pair? How long do they live, as there is an opinion that seahorses do not thrive in marine aquariums. What do you feed them?

Robert

Honestly, I'm not sure about the gender of the lower one, but the upper one in the last photo is definitely a male. I saw how it flared its gills in front of the second one and turned yellow. Feeding is problematic; they eat frozen mysis sometimes, small dragonfly larvae, and mayflies. They react sluggishly to everything else, but they have been living and thriving with me for three months now. They are curious, lively creatures, and their eyes!! You have to see it. I have a problem with them. The frozen mysis, which is their main food, is running out, and I don't know where to get more.

Karen2578

Do they not eat live Artemia? Or how the hell will you feed such a horse with Artemia...

Wesley

It's almost two. They eat, but reluctantly, and it's clearly not enough for them.
