• water and sand

Good day. Could you please tell me if it is possible to use water and sand from the sea? It seems strange to use chemicals when you have a natural product at hand.

It's better not to talk about the Odessa region.

Besides sand and water, there is also live rock in the Black Sea, and various marine life, but most of it is not suitable for our tropical aquarium. However, Lyokha "SHERKHAN" uses a lot of things from the Black Sea, and everything works out great for him.

It is possible! And to create a "piece" of this sea in your aquarium.

I have the first type of sand in my aquarium with a Malawian cichlid.

At the launch, I poured 60 liters of water (out of 500) from the Azov Sea. I don't see anything wrong, I might add another 60 liters. But! You can't pour 100% water from the sea (Black or Azov) - the salt composition (in terms of microelements) is not the same as that of reef water. .............. I used sand from Azov for the cichlid tank - excellent!!! But I didn't take it from the sea, rather from the shore, further away from the water, where the wind had already "sifted" it.

Usually, when we brought Black Sea water from Tarkhankut to set up a 1200L aquarium, we adjusted its salinity to 1.024 by adding Tetra salt or some other type. The sand was taken from the littoral zone.

Thank you all.
