• How to properly place the stones?

  • Joyce

My aquarium is six months old. I decided to buy 5 kg of dry reef rocks (there are currently about 10 kg of live rock in the system). The aquarium is 130 liters. I would like to know the best way to transport the rocks.

Noah1632

I strongly advise against doing this (putting S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) in a six-month-old aquarium). I did this and we're still battling cyanobacteria...

Zoe7451

If it is pure stone without any organic matter, there should be no problems. Just to be safe, it's better to let it soak in osmosis water, then boil it to remove any organic material. The problem may arise if the stone was taken from the sea, it has been sitting there, and everything inside has died; of course, you can't just put that in the aquarium right away. Soak it, boil it, and only then place it in the desired spot. And cyanobacteria simply love organic matter.

From pure stone or pure sand, a restart will begin in a six-month-old aquarium...

Caleb6320

in 130 liters this is definitely a reboot

Amber

Delivery - to bring it to the living...??? How much?

Gary6376

And what if you put a piece of glass or a new pump into the aquarium? What is the underlying reason for the restart from a piece of something?

Brianna

Neither the glass nor the pump contains as much dead organic matter as S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) can hold. The aquarium simply cannot handle the load; it hasn't matured enough yet, and the volume is too small.

Jennifer

Strangely enough, the restart is not triggered by organic matter. In my 80-liter, one-year-old full aquarium of live rocks, I caused a diatom bloom by adding a couple of kilograms of dry, clean aragonite sand. Gradually, over the course of a month, everything returned to normal.

So I'm saying - boil the cracker and soak it to remove the organic matter. I want to figure it out myself.

Laura3673

Lucky.....four to six months, it could easily last.....

Natasha

I reread your topic... Wait another six months, then it will be possible to add 2-6 kg of live stones from a good supply (spring to autumn is better due to temperature)... It should go smoothly...

Justin9867

Due to the hot sun we have, the information you provided is not entirely correct. At the beginning of January, there was a move from the old aquarium to the new one. Only new live sand was used, everything else came from the old aquarium. Does this change the situation?

Christopher8654

Half a year, stability in the aquarium only seems to exist... But if you can't wait, then look for quality!!! Live rocks!!!

Joseph2576

I used 3 kg of dry reef rocks and almost killed all the hard corals and some of the soft ones (they have been closed for 2 months now), and the brown film on these rocks still hasn't gone away... the skimmer is working well—the water is clear, but I made things worse by bringing rocks from Central Asia (they were lying in a damp basement there), breaking them with a hammer, washing them under the tap, and putting them in the aquarium... in short, don't do this.

Eric5208

Can't wait.

Bridget

For now, it's better not to do it; maybe it will work out...

Adam4310

You have a water change of less than 10% per month. It won't harm either a healthy or a sick aquarium; it will only help. You have a nano volume, and in all nano tanks, water changes are mandatory in any case. Moreover, there is no sump. And 10% per month seems a bit low. At least 20%. And spread it out over time.

Marie5735

Oleg, how can we do without substitutions? Of course, we need to change according to the schedule. We are striving for system stability, right? Skipping the water substitution is a blow to stability. Moreover, in my opinion, you already missed the issue when the green algae started to grow on the stones. Remember the system launch (and adding stones is a kind of mini-restart) - first diatoms for a few days, then greens. In your case, the system worked and skipped that brown stage.

Amy5070

Today, 4 kg of live rock arrived (seems quite nice). I know I didn't take into account the thoughts of some, but there was no other way... I had already ordered it then. I rinsed them in osmosis water and placed them in the aquarium. It seems to be okay, but what should I expect now and how much water changes should I do?

Nicholas5194

Why??

Diana8604

On the road, they traveled for 2 days; I think nothing terrible was done...

Angel2396

It would have been better to rinse and scrub the carcass in seawater. Rinsing it in osmosis was pointless...

Justin

..., and the internet is right there, but it's too much trouble to ask. NOTHING, IT WILL BE A LESSON.

Jacob4800

PHOTO FROM THE PHONE, and the water hasn't completely cleared yet...

Christopher1252

Pasha is doing great, everything is fine. However, the arowana will eventually make its presence known, if it hasn't already. The pomacentrid is nice, but a bit quirky.

Jason9385

Thank you, just a small clarification: what is arowana and Pomacentridae???)))

Vanessa

I bought a somewhat inadequate fish.

Ryan

I thought it wouldn't be of interest... well, I'll respond in detail. Family Pomacentridae. Zebroid dascyllus. Dascyllus aruanus. Native to the Red Sea and Indo-Pacific. In the wild, it grows up to 10 cm. Females are smaller and have a white spot on the forehead. Males have a blue spot on the forehead. With age, they become aggressive and territorial.
