There are enthusiasts who have tried to create a "cold" sea... Don't forget that besides other technical difficulties, there is also the problem of glass fogging.
Judy
Karen Sanamyan has a cold-water aquarium.
There are a lot of technical difficulties. Besides the cooling, which needs to be reliable, there's also the problem of draining condensation from the glass. Or the walls need to be made of double-glazed glass. In short, it's quite a hassle. And all this cooling will consume electricity. In general, I think you were joking.

Is there really such a necessity? And then, by the time the fish from the Norwegian Sea reaches Odessa, it might just perish from the rising temperatures. I would rather go for the Black Sea fish, with skates, mackerels, and turbot, equines and hermits.

Odessa, I once had a dream of getting an octopus, and this creature is actually cold-water... I remember I sifted through a ton of information, and in the end, this project is not for an average apartment... people usually set this up in basements...
Tina
There are also tropical octopuses. Why choose cold-water ones?
Beth3383
Tropical octopuses have a lifespan of one and a half to two years. In cold seas, there are stunningly beautiful sea anemones, sponges, and other marine life! If it works out, honor and praise!!!!!

If we go back to the topic, I completely disagree with the choice of equipment. A lot of money for little efficiency. It would be better to take a heat exchanger and a refrigeration unit from an industrial refrigerator. Recently, we found a cheap Chinese option.
As for refrigeration units, the Italians have good and affordable ones. Of course, everything needs to be calculated: performance, heat losses...

The aquarium will be placed in a basement room where even in the hottest summer it doesn't exceed 18 degrees, and moreover, the basement is not heated, with an average temperature in winter-very-spring around 11 degrees. As for cooling equipment, I think you're right, I will look for a Chinese option.
Amanda
Who knows what the joke is about throwing down ten grand, coming to a basement with 11 degrees, freezing your balls off while looking at cold-water cod? Check out Karen's topics; there's nothing interesting there besides the nonsense.
Nicholas
Well, you really went for it!!!

Off-topic Before you surprise someone with a cold basement aquarium, you'll curse the day you got involved with it. It's one thing if it's yours, but if it's some nouveau riche's, they'll make your life miserable for wasting their money.

Complete Offtopic ... I served in Severomorsk, Northern Fleet, a couple of hundred kilometers to the pole, and now I feel drawn to the tropics all my life and worked (later) - and here I am voluntarily in the Arctic-Antarctic - damn, I wouldn't go in with my bare hands at +5.
Timothy
Well, why are you like that... The White Sea, the Far East has so many beautiful animals... the stars alone are worth it...
Diana7891
What, are the tropics worse? Especially without the hassle. Although, to be honest, maybe people like it when they're in a hammock in scuba gear and standing... and even in a basement.
Tiffany5069
I was referring to cold water and everything related to it. There are probably only a few such seas that can be counted on fingers - excursions can be organized. But how much it will cost and what the stability of the system will be is uncertain - God forbid the power cable gets damaged and there will be no electricity for three days... in summer, even in a basement at +18°C. With the same amount of money, you could probably build three tons of tropics and fully charge the living stones.

Well, yes, they supported the person. I was once told something similar about the sea... like, you throw in some money and then you regret it. Good thing I didn't listen to them... If such an idea came up, it means someone needs it... especially if it's not at their own expense.

and 50 tons of freshwater..................
Susan1358
The cost won't be higher, insulation must be done, a budget refrigeration unit, a more powerful biofilter. The heat exchanger is the most complicated part of this, and of course, the delivery of the livestock. You can't just throw the power cable from Norway after the train or plane.
Chad9037
Well, if it's a private house, you can install an autonomous power supply system, and that's it. I'm going to install one in the fall, as the power outages have been happening more frequently in winter, and the restoration times are getting longer.
Tanner
This is plus 4-10 thousand currency units. Modestly, you need to keep a ton of diesel at the stand. You need 5 kW for 1.5 tons with all the devices, and the main thing is the cooling machine. This is for home and personal purposes, like sitting for three days until the power comes back on when "our people arrive" - you can use a Firman with 3.8 kW and three canisters of 95-octane.
Brandi
Off-topic. If you were to move to Dikson or Kamchatka, this idea might actually be justified there.
Derek7322
No, it's a gas generator with a direct connection to the gas network. Or from a regular cylinder. It's not expensive, I haven't checked recently, but at the end of winter it was around five thousand at most.
Laura3615
Offtopic This is really cool - but for 5 kW. I don't believe it for LPG. Unless it's without AVR and up to 1 kW. If you find it, let me know - I'll take one for myself - for now, Firman is doing a great job and costs 350-400 USD - that's a real price.
Natasha
Offtopic OK. I'll find it - I'll whistle.
Eric8832
Odessa, I wish you good luck. I will be happy if you take on the project and start the relevant topic... No one has shared such experience, I have only seen a couple of Moscow aquariums in person... It's a completely different world, no less interesting than the warm sea.
