• Cement for live rocks in the aquarium

  • Andrew4194

Colleagues, which cement have you used in a marine aquarium? What fast-setting options are available? Something that sets in 2-3 hours. I found some uses for 500. There are mentions of some white cement...

Cheryl

Why don't you want to use the two-component glue you showed me? By the way, thanks for the advice about it; it helped to solve the problem halfway. Nothing else helped.

Erica

Off-topic. I will use it. But, I will need cement just in case - what if I have to make a long "branch" from J.K. (living stones) and there is a risk of breakage on the titanium spike. That's why I will mix concrete for reinforcement.

Yesterday, I asked in several "Household Goods" type stores about white - in response, there was deep silence. The "gray" 500 is available in 5 kg packaging. I need to try asking in construction supermarkets... P.S. There is also the option of so-called Sorrel cement. But in our field, I haven't heard of anyone using it... Although there is a 100% guarantee of the absence of silicates in the background from such a material!

Cheryl

Where do they get titanium pins or titanium wire?

Stephanie3084

We sometimes have wire, strips, and tubes at our "flea" market. In Kyiv, you can also find titanium at such a market. (True, you don't have a titanium-magnesium plant, but we do. However, considering that it's the capital... it means you have it too; you just need to look for it.)

Nicole2404

Yes, looking for it is not a problem))) The problem is that for me, titanium and stainless steel look the same))) And I don't want to create a "rusty Titanic" in the aquarium.

Shawn

I use regular cement and aragonite sand. Recently, I managed to get white cement, but there is no difference except for the color; it even set worse. White cement is sold at our construction markets, but its price is over 100 UAH per bag. Once, at "Yunost," they sold white cement (the seller called it metropolitan) that set like alabaster; that would be great for us.

Monica

Titanium is much lighter than stainless steel in weight. You pick it up, and you’ll notice it right away. And when you cut it with a grinder, it produces blue sparks instead of red. Last year, we bought a 20 kg bag of white cement for 70-80, I don't remember exactly. There are also 1 kg bags available. As for the strength, the decorations are still holding up, and the stone structures haven't collapsed in a year.

I just had your cement. I'm not saying it doesn't hold, but I didn't like it; it takes longer to gain strength than the usual one. It might be due to the very fine sand. Since you have 70-80, it means it's definitely not what we sell.

Melissa3200

Vadim, can you clarify the highlighted part? Do you mean it dries longer during the construction? And what if the fraction of aragonite is dust?

John3187

I'm afraid no one will appreciate it if I walk around the market with a grinder )))) I was thinking maybe there are some trusted stores where I can go and buy/cut/choose )))

Troy8808

The fraction of aragonite is indeed dust. When making the same product, the white one crumbles on the third day. Moreover, the ratio is 1*1; if it is supposed to be 1*3, it falls apart. But I repeat, this may be due to the aragonite dust.

Joseph9203

Are there the same questions with gray cement, or does it hold up well? (if 1:1)

Brandy1134

Both hold up fine, it's just that the white one took a few days to gain strength.

Here is the perfect material for marine DIY projects in my opinion - the price for 1kg is about 750. (powder and hardener)

Rita

Dry reef stones are perfect for S.R.K., but live stones will burn it.
