• I want the sea.

  • Sheila

I want to set up an aquarium! At first, I was thinking about a freshwater one, but after seeing a marine aquarium with waves and a clownfish at the pet store, I got really excited about the marine option. However, it’s probably much more expensive and complicated, right? I wanted to ask experienced friends how much a "minimum" starter marine aquarium would cost! And what basic knowledge is needed?

Frederick

I would start with freshwater if I were you. For example, a pseudo-sea or cichlid tank.

Stephen5857

Google to the rescue

Melanie

nd7, check this same section, there are plenty of similar topics. 2-3 thousand USD.

Brandy1134

Where do these numbers come from?

Brian

Yes, they flashed somewhere. I haven't done it myself and haven't even considered it yet. I hope marine aquarium enthusiasts will correct the numbers. One thing I know for sure - NOT CHEAP.

Jason

Cassandra1840

No, this is clearly excessive for a minimum (although it all depends on the volume). Generally, it's from 5 to... currency units per liter, depending on the budget, population, and willingness.

Susan

Resan DMS 400 1000. Stream - from 120 to 600. Penny - 120-1000. Sand - 5kg - 50-100. Live rocks - 5-10kg - 800-1600. Salt 5kg - 120-200. Hydrometer - 50-100. Clown - 100-160. Shrimp - 100-300. You can request OSMO water on the forum. This will only work for small volumes. This is just a rough estimate! Just don't ask what a penny is or what live rocks are.

Cynthia

Offtopic nd7, for you living in Kyiv, all questions regarding M.A. (marine aquarium) will be several orders of magnitude easier to resolve in all aspects than if you were "lucky" enough to live in a city like Zaporizhzhia. You can't buy anything except Tetra salt. And even for that, thank you. If it weren't for Stas Lazarchuk, God bless him...

Daniel

Agreed

Joshua

You can start with a two-room apartment! Thank you) I'm not ready for such expenses yet, so I'll start with a freshwater aquarium!

Nicole2404

Come back again! The sea may not be cheap, but it's worth it.

Angel628

It made me smile. And how much money did I think I needed?

Ross

In fact, as mentioned, you can start with 2 bucks.

Jason9952

+1, but with a small caveat. This "two" can be stretched over a couple of months. No one is forcing you to take it all at once...

Brenda

Yes, you can start with 500 currency units, depending on the volume being started. P.S. It has been tested, and it was even less at the start.

Destiny

I'm not an expert in the sea either. But I roughly estimated how much my 36L mini would cost me. TOTAL - $700-800 (this is an approximate estimate). ONLY SHHHHH... about the prices. Otherwise, my wife has started to browse the forum sometimes.

Wendy

PU, 1. YES! 2. no. Guys, which two-liter tanks are we talking about? There are aquariums of 20-30-100-101-106 liters or 605 liters or 309 liters. How can this be counted? Some people are into rodactis with clowns, while others prefer acaras and angels.

Kristin

Can you list what is needed for a mini 36L? I read that for small aquariums, skimmers, etc., may not be necessary.

Anthony4281

one aquarium, flow pump, water changes, light, sand, about 3 kilograms of rocks, live rocks (LR)

April3499

And if not, then why do people buy refrigerators? For some whimsical corals?

Barbara8192

It's easier to install an air conditioner; a refrigerator in the apartment isn't very good, as it will heat the air itself.

Gabriel

There will be. From 24 to 27 cruising T. It is allowed in the summer and 28, but that's already a warning... Osmosis, distillate, ion-exchange resins. This is an acceptable option for purifying the source water. There are no others. Ov, Savchuk "Reef Aquarium" - a reasonable book. There is a computer version.

Katie4842

I won't put a penny on the samp, and they are not the main expenses. THE MAIN EXPENSES ARE LIVESTOCK, and also live rocks.

Frank7213

Very good book.

Chelsea567

If it's not too much trouble, could you send it to my email? Well, I understand that for this amount of money, you plan to set up the aquarium right away.

Jenny

Not right away. Gradually.

Justin9867

If it's all about the livestock, then when buying an aquarium, for example, not 36 liters but 100 liters, the main expenses are live rock? The rest is just small stuff. You can keep the same livestock that was planned for the 36 liters, just wait longer for everything to grow? Or does it also depend, like in a freshwater aquarium, on biomass? Like, the more plants, the fewer problems.

Thomas

720 liters

Danielle9144

Yes, but not for long.

Cynthia6578

As I understand, about 70 kg of soil is needed there. And one kg costs 20 dollars. So, how does it add up to 500 bucks?

Jonathan6173

1) BOYU marine aquarium with a capacity of 150 liters, with a stand and a complete set of equipment for 220 USD + branded cabinet for 80 USD, totaling 300 USD - that is, almost 120 liters of pure water. In my opinion, among all mini-nemos, starting from Resan, Ser, Aquael, and ending with Red Sea Max, this is the most acceptable option in terms of equipment and volume. The basic light is only very weak.

Holly

No, that won't even fit in a two-room apartment; a lot of equipment is added, and the lighting will be expensive.

Sherri1320

Well, here it's probably like in the herbalist, without a proper MH there's nothing to do. But you can also take a homemade aquarium... and a skimmer for 500-1000 (I don't know the price). + Also, a 250W MH lamp, which costs around 600...

Michelle

these are stones at such a price, and the soil sand - from 11 in "Arovanne" to (I don't remember how much it costs live)

Cheyenne2747

Got it, thanks.

Joseph2576

The file is not uploading. Go to the internet search and type the book title mentioned in post 25, and you will find happiness.

Angela7060

It's a bit weak, but normal for soft corals; they grow and smell good. You can also choose beautiful LPS that will feel good too, and the seriatopora also grows fine. Of course, you can't grow powerful acropora there... but why would you need to?

Meghan

Sailors, please advise. Which tests (of which brand) can be relatively trusted?

Leonard

If your path is to go... How many have you "buried" in your sea?

Tanner

Opinions may vary here... I have JBL. No complaints.

Brenda

Well, yes, until my wife sets the condition: "Either me or the aquariums!!!"

Stephanie9175

I have a similar opinion about the bland as well.

Raven7170

Offtopic Answer knows...

Kimberly3727

Every aquarist has their own graveyard. I've lost quite a few plants in my freshwater tank while I was figuring things out. I want to avoid the main pitfalls in the sea; it's not as cheap as freshwater. The graveyard will be expensive.

Anthony

Well, if I hadn't had any losses... I would be changing Mercedes along with the ashtrays.

Rodney7316

That's what I'm saying too. What kind of foam filters for 120, what kind of complete set for 2000, and so on? Of course, you can create a lot for 1000 and then in a month start a thread: Help, everything is dead, hair algae, cyanobacteria...! I'm talking about a proper start so that later you don't have to redo anything or spend days tinkering around the aquarium.

Colin1418

That's the point. I thought about starting with 250 liters right away, but since I have no experience at sea, I decided to start with a mini, so to speak, to learn. I don't want to throw a bunch of money into it and then regret it later.

Laura9093

So how much does a normal start cost with everything included, about 60-80 liters... so it doesn't die? +- 1-1500 USD? So that it's not too extreme.

Leslie

PU, just walk around the aquarium stores in Kyiv. Check the prices. No one can tell you exactly how much it will cost to set it up. Here in the outskirts, we have nothing, even salt is only available by special order in stores. I think there are no problems with that in the capital. P.S. If I lived in Kyiv, I would have had a sea long ago.

Reginald5073

I didn't understand this, what is this pen? Is it a jeb? Give me a link to it.

Deborah2682

he's the one 180 or 182, I don't remember the model I definitely don't need my 30-liter one - I have a large mounted one (needs modifications), if you need a penny, you should look for something like TMS 200 or 300 - the mounted ones, otherwise you'll be floating on substitutes and chemicals

Anna9752

I'm not going to set up a pen. The name "Jabba" just caught my interest.

Erica752

Does CO2 also get released into the sea? Or not?

Jenny

What exactly inspires fear? The picture isn't mine (it's from "logo"), I was interested in the couplings. They seem to be supplied, but for what exactly - I can't say, I don't know, it's more likely in a hard reef. P.S. The system in the photo is quite good, there's nothing scary about it, and it should be relatively quiet.

Tanya

It looks simply impressive)) although if you put an external filter, CO2, a bubble counter, a doser, and a separate external reactor with an external pump in a freshwater tank, it also turns out to be intimidating.

Shelby3182

The size of the compartment is about 55x55, which is why it looks like this (the aquarium on top is a 230-liter cube). The pump is simply external, as it serves both for return and for the skimmer. There’s even a ballast for metal halide lighting in the cabinet. Additionally, there’s an auto top-off system, resulting in a very good sump for a 230-liter aquarium with soft corals. You can use a hang-on skimmer or partition off part of the main aquarium (like in a Resun), but then the main aquarium looks cluttered; however, there’s no "second aquarium" in the cabinet—everyone can choose what to do.

Michele9664

Auto top-off, does that mean the aquarium is on a flow? But how does it salt the water?

Catherine6534

First, they add salt, and then they set up automatic topping off. It's not a matter of draining; instead, they add osmosis water to replace the evaporated water (the salt remains in the water, but the volume changes). In the sea, evaporation is much higher than in freshwater, especially under MГ, and it needs to be monitored, as it can lead to salinity spikes, which is not good for the living organisms.

Jennifer5371

Maybe my numbers will help? The topic next door - I'm gathering 340 liters for 1500 USD for the purchased equipment - I just need to finish one stream for 120. - then salt + stones, etc.

Timothy

And this is with Chinese launch lamps (if I'm not mistaken), and in front there are still salt and stones. That is, you can easily exceed two grand. Here, for those who want to invest in the launch with 200-300 bucks. Cheap and cheerful.

William5838

Yes! Everything is budget-friendly - except for the chandelier for 300 euros. But the aquarium and sump are included in the 1500.

Joseph8592

Well, for today, this is the best option in terms of price/quality. Chinese chandeliers are praised by those who are afraid to admit they got into ... And European ones are far from being a budget option.

Karen

And to do it yourself? How many watts per liter are needed for the sea?

Tami

Offtopic A-ya lamp sun-sunami for 37. Charged the piece.

Kimberly4253

The losses were mainly due to inexperience, and I also slightly overstrained my boyu.

Zoe7451

So someone moved from theory to the sea?)))

Tracey

nd7, Are you following the Marine Aquariums section? I have at least 3 aquariums, 58,450,740 liters.

Andrew7823

I meant those who only wanted to create a sea.

Catherine6534

Besides you, everything has already been created, and not just in one sea!

Lee
