• Problem with the skimmer

  • Lee425

I bought an aquarium about 6 weeks ago, a Red Sea Max 130. The skimmer that comes with it is standard. From the very beginning, it has hardly produced anything (although the inner walls of the cup are covered in dirt). I tried completely closing off the air intake for the drain shaft - the result was a couple of grams in the cup over a week. Please advise me on what I might be doing wrong...

Maybe the load is small and there's just nothing to knock out...

In the MAX, the skimmer, as far as I understand, is a modification of the Prism-400. Don't expect a large amount of skimmate from this little rattletrap. I have the Prism on a 25-liter aquarium... all the dirt collects not inside the cup (just a couple of milliliters), but on the walls.

It's exactly on the walls!!!! Maybe this process can be tuned???

When you fully open the air, you reduce the water flow; there may be more foam, but the level in the foam generator drops. You need to find the optimal water-air ratio, and also clean the cone from the inside, because when it gets clogged (dirt inside), it becomes harder for the foam to rise. You also need to maintain the correct water level. There was a discussion about adjusting the original foam generator in some topic, but I don't remember which one; I need to look for it.
