• I'm collecting a 70L marine aquarium. I would appreciate any advice.

I would love to, but every inch of this volume is already calculated, there was nowhere to move further without radical rearrangements. I didn't see much sense in the reskin; I don't really like curved glass, and it still needs to be redone anyway. So it's better for me to build from scratch.

Considering the small size of the aquarium, the use of a hang-on skimmer is the only acceptable option.

Can you recommend which models to pay attention to?

Veronica

I only needed one pack of sand. I would also choose a suspended deltec skimmer instead of the one offered, which is internal. I would pick the second light, but with a higher power - 150W. Then, I would place two actinic lamps on the sides. The seller will scoop out as much salt as needed, not just a whole bucket. Better to have 2 Nano Corals at 900 than one for 1600.

9 kg of sand is a lot. I used 7 kg for the bottom of 50*50, and that turned out to be too much.

I am aware of the Daltic penlights, but their price is well above the budget. As for the lighting, will 150 watts be too much for 70 liters? I am not planning on keeping hard corals for now.

How do you think we should address the issue with the work desk? The weight of the aquarium plus the weight of the water, the weight of the equipment, the weight of live rocks (L.R.) and dry reef rocks (D.R.R.) and sand—could this be too much load for the work desk, which you did not specify how it is constructed? So that later you won't have to urgently fix any sagging, warping, etc.

Andrea6761

That's right - for now, you don't plan to. There were just comments that 70W lamps have some specific spectrum, while all aquarium lamps are higher in power.

A completely ordinary writing desk. Originally not designed for an aquarium. If there is a slight sag in the tabletop, it's because my aquarium is placed on one half of it. Considering that the desk bends towards the middle, there shouldn't be any problems, maybe a half-centimeter tilt in the water level at worst. P.S. I once had a freshwater tank on it, 50 liters, everything was just fine.

Tammy

Particle board 15mm. Understood. I wouldn't take the risk. Putting that much on a 70-liter tank is not the same as fresh water in a 50-liter tank.

It's better to get a cabinet (or make one yourself), or reinforce the desk.

If this pen is not bad, then it suits me financially. What does everyone think about it?

Alec9378

Thank you. I will take your advice. I will come home and experiment with the table's sag; maybe I can really reinforce it.

John3335

It stands here, find out and there are many reviews about it on Google and on the logo - I don't remember which ones.

Stop counting watts per liter. For such a volume, you can confidently use a couple of pumps or streams of 1200 l/h. But everything is relative... It depends on how you place the rocks, how you set up the pumps, etc. A hang-on skimmer from Deltak. I haven't used it myself, but there are many good reviews. Salt - definitely TM. There's no need to think about it. Sand from 5 to 7 kg, in my humble opinion.

Brianna

In your opinion, which option would be better to choose from the ones I suggested? I couldn't find Daltake for sale; if I do manage to get it somewhere, the price isn't appealing. Therefore, I'm not considering it.

Ryan1989

Overall, the table seems reliable, it doesn't bend much, and for reassurance, I'll put something soft under the bottom of the aquarium. I don't see a better place in the room for the aquarium for now.

Maria6659

The base under the marine aquarium should not bend at all, as placing the aquarium and adding rocks will put pressure on the bottom, which could cause it to crack. After that, it's your aquarium, apartment, and neighbors—it's up to you to decide.

I will get an aquarium, fill it with fresh water, and then it will definitely be visible, because measuring it by myself doesn't yield accurate results. Today I spoke with Aquatika, and they said I can only dream about the aquarium for another week.

Tanya

Both options are good. You can only find out which one is better by trying them yourself. You can buy a used Deltak or order it on eBay.

Michelle1662

The aquarium has been received, set up, filled with sand, and decorated with stones. I will create a new topic in a few days.

Judy

take a hanging skimmer - you won't regret it
