• Help, advice!!!

  • Barbara8192

Good afternoon, everyone!!! I have been developing the idea of a small reef tank (50-70 liters) for over six months now. I still have a few questions: 1. Is it necessary to use osmosis water, or can it be replaced with settled tap water??? 2. What device should be used to measure the salinity of the water? (There are many opinions regarding TDS meters, that they shouldn't be used, only refractometers) 3. What volume of algae filter is necessary for such a size aquarium? The planned inhabitants are 2 clownfish and 2 tangs. I would appreciate any advice! I'm open to any opinions!

James3382

1. Tap water cannot be used. 2. TDS measures a slightly different value in another range and is intended for monitoring the quality of osmotic water. If on a budget, salinity can be measured with a hydrometer. 3. In this size, it is possible to do without a water drain, using water changes instead.

Jesse

To the first question, even I will answer - IT IS MANDATORY. Moreover, after osmosis, it is also necessary to install an ion exchanger (complex, anion + cation). As far as I know, the salinity of water is measured with a salinometer or a hydrometer.

Joseph2576

Is it possible to use this: How accurate will the assessment be?

Elizabeth6302

Better a float. This one shows very crookedly. Something like this or

Lindsey3362

And to add to everything - SURGEONS cannot be in 50-70 liters.

Karen2578

Better this way And even better this way You can find it much cheaper. And you can't keep two surgeons at this volume, and actually, not even one. Added after 33 seconds Oops I'm late

Thomas

A ion exchanger is not always necessary. If there is a soft reef with fish, it can be managed without one.

Katie4842

And what about silicates? I've heard that they need to be eliminated, but the membrane allows them to pass through.

Darrell7542

What fish can you recommend as neighbors for a pair of clownfish?

Brian6895

Many sailors with a soft reef have regular osmosis without DI. If there are issues with the lower levels, then one can bother with DI. Author, what type of osmosis do you have? With a remineralizer?

Holly

The last 2 fish have a habit of jumping out of the aquarium when scared. Although ...

Rick

I have a magnifica that has been living with me since May. When it gets scared, it darts to its rock like a bullet. And the wrasse jumped out...

Ryan

I had my nematoleptresses disappear without a trace three times. Although the fish are beautiful. It's just that my herd of surgeons kept them on edge. They couldn't recover from the stress. I think they died in their refuge from hunger and fear.

Steven757

1. Be sure to use osmosis water! Or distilled water. 2. Whatever you use, I have both TDS and a water density meter, Aqua Medic Salimeter. You can buy a refractometer if you can allocate 400 rubles. 3. The bigger, the better for your sample. In 50-70 liters, clownfish may not have enough space, but for a nano aquarium, two are NOT NEEDED; there is little living space. We recommend a minimum of 200 liters. There are plenty of small marine fish, and many of them are very beautiful.

Barbara8192

There are membranes that, according to the trading organization, eliminate silicate by almost 100%. I ordered a sample here, but I would install a DI cartridge, and possibly more than one.

Yolanda

Strange... My zebrasoma doesn't pay any attention to the magnifica. It's as if it's not there. Although the fish is indeed somewhat skittish. But very beautiful! And we're talking about a 50-70 liter aquarium, where keeping tangs is contraindicated!

Christopher7213

Mine didn't chase them either, but the floating bodies - about 6 larger than 15 cm - caused panic on the magnifier just by their appearance. The matelotris are as skittish as rabbits. Although, of course, this topic isn't about that. Sorry.

Martha

Magnifics and Decors sleep on the sand and become easy prey for voracious brittle stars, which is why they disappear without a trace.

Jesse3979

But at the same time, the tangerine that fell where night caught it could also have been an easy catch. But no. It doesn't care about anything. By the way, a sleeping tangerine, especially on the sand, is quite a sight - a lifeless body. Discolored and covered in sand.

Brenda

And my magnifica is sleeping in a burrow in the stone. PS I think that a healthy fish won't catch a small one. I could be wrong, of course...

Jose

Guys, can you tell me if it's possible to buy a reverse osmosis system for up to 800? Unfortunately, I can't allocate more than that for now. I'm trying to fit the whole project into a very tight budget. The sump is almost ready, I just need to glue one partition. Can you advise if this foam will be sufficient for a volume of 70 liters?

Katie3017

In the standard configuration - no. If it works normally (which is unlikely) - it should be enough (also unlikely).

Mark9853

The most budget-friendly solution is to buy the housing, cartridges, and membrane separately. All of this is available in Epicenter stores. Often, the branded package includes items that are unnecessary for the sea, such as a storage tank or mineralizer. Why pay for them?

Ricky9405

What if we refine the impeller?

Patrick4439

It's better to buy a good skimmer right away!

Danielle

It will be enough if I have not too many fish; everything feels great in my 150 liters for the second year.

Tammy2040

I would love to, but finances are limited.

Anna9752

Is it possible to buy a reverse osmosis membrane housing somewhere in the stores in Kyiv? Korosten is such a hole that in the whole city, I found reverse osmosis only in one store (one model for an astronomical price), and the sellers there can't really answer!

Sydney

You go to the section on this forum akva.ua, then to their website, register, choose a simple osmosis system for 1190, refuse the tank and the filter after the membrane (or just the tank), and there you have osmosis for 800-900. Many people have it, read about it. Over time, you can add resin. The link for the foam is not opening.

Zachary

Offtopic Max, without a royal (Aty, Alexloga, Bubble King - it doesn't matter) for 2k. There won't be any seas now, just a parody where everything will be bending. I want Alexloga myself, but over time, everything depends on finances and the corresponding volumes of the aquarium, and for now, China is working too.

Sara4035

Well, then the designated penny is not needed at all. Why spend money?

Christopher3770

Saturate the water with oxygen. Is he doing something? Or is it really bad?

Frank7213

In fact, that's how it will be: there will be 2 clowns (maybe 2 small fish, I haven't decided which yet), softness, a sump with an algae filter and water changes. I want a sponge filter, just in case the 2 "small fish" produce "a lot" of organic matter in the water.

Melissa3820

Yeah, the cabbage from the pockets.

Justin9867

The samps will pull out the organic matter. There may be issues with pH. Key phrase.......I think without aeration, the pH will be very low...

Christopher1774

Especially on a hot summer day when the aquarium is 29-30.

Thomas5021

Could you please advise if the Koralia Nano 900 l/h flow rate is sufficient, or would it be better to use the 1500 l/h for an aquarium measuring 50x40x45 (LxWxH)?

Andrew9246

Nano 100% is too little! 1500l/h or two * 1500l/h is just right!

Kathy

Light: metal halide 150W. Is it worth adding Maringlo 24W?

Jonathan6173

There is one metal halide lamp, without actinic light, with a poor spectrum.

Brian6895

2000 l/h (total) will be just right. Or maybe 1500 l/h. You will have time to buy more. Watch the corals - if you adjust the flow so that they are not lying on the sand at 1500-2000 l/h - that’s the optimum needed for these sizes. The advice is given based on the initial 3 of 50 cm. Ask colleagues who leave posts about aquarium sizes - with length, the pump power coefficient increases.

Cheyenne2747

But just not Maringlo (unreasonably expensive for no clear reason). ATI, KZ, take a BLU or Faunamarin. They will also pass on one light bulb...

Andrea8397

Offtopic. It's just that Faunamarin has somehow run out, maybe someone knows who has it besides Tkach.

Catherine

Maybe 150mg will be enough????

Jeremy

Stop... "Livestock: 2 clowns and softness." Why 150mg for 70 liters???? Take a San-San lamp with 3x24 watts and that will be more than enough for your livestock!

Charles

For a budget option, I would use Sylvania lamps 1coral star, 1aquastar, and one at 6400K. Alternatively, there is a company nearby called "Ripamonti and Partners": materials for outdoor advertising. I would also buy electronic components from them and assemble the light fixture myself.

Megan

I want there to be beautiful reflections underwater, as fluorescent lamps won't provide that effect!!?? Maybe I'm wrong? Or should I use a regular halogen lamp to create reflections, even though the spectrum won't be the same, and add a San-san light fixture with 3x24 watts?

Matthew7977

From here, along with the highlights, problems will also arise.

Phillip9722

Got it! Thank you!

Erica752

I have a bottom measuring 50 cm x 40 cm. I want bright white sand. I don't know how many centimeters to pour and how many kilograms that is (approximately). Please advise from experience!!!???

David2398

5kg. A 3cm layer will be on 70l. Plus or minus...

Brenda

put a couple of LEDs
