• Distillate, Copper test

  • Tracey

I borrowed a distillation apparatus for temporary use and distilled some liquid. During the process, I remembered that the coil can be made of copper. Who has tried the distillate? What were the results? If anyone has leftover copper test, please sell 2-3 doses. Otherwise, I'll have to pour everything into the car's washer reservoir. Does anyone regularly use distillate for topping up or preparing solutions?

If there is copper in the system, pour it out immediately. Even amounts not detectable by the test can be lethal for invertebrates. If you want to use distillate, use glass components.

I started with a small 50-liter setup using distillate and topped it up for a while, but not for long. It was from a pharmacy, and I don't know what kind of condenser they have; I didn't test for copper. Then I found a "sweet spot" where I could get osmotic water (I'll change the pipes at home closer to autumn, otherwise I can't connect the osmosis), and the distillate was more expensive. In the small setup with distillate, there was no cyanide at all, but in the 140-liter setup with osmosis, it started showing up a couple of days after the "transfer."

Why not install an osmosis system? They are not expensive anymore.

Tch... Yarik, can't I get you some osmosis water? Just give me a bottle, and I'll pour you as much as you need.

I am not installing an osmosis system and a boiler because the house is old and the pipes are accordingly outdated. There is also one riser for two apartments in the partition (the cross is in place), and any touch to the pipe causes a heart-stopping moment. In the basement, the connections to the riser hardly hold, and I am not eager to leave the entire house without water for a couple of days. Moreover, plumbing can only be found on the list of the housing office workers; the emergency service will arrive by the time there are not just aquariums but swimming pools in the six lower apartments. The house is super elite class, with seven swimming pools in it.

Yeah.. You wouldn't want to be in that position.

Come on, I'm not the only one like this. These are the realities of people in their 30s (one year younger than me, I'm 78, he's 79).

Yarik, sorry for not replying to the email! The test is available, log in and we'll check it!

Guys, I don't understand anything. Read post 2 again. What other testing could there be? If the condenser contains copper, and the test doesn't detect its traces in the distillate? Does that mean it has to be done blindly? Is there really no way to visually confirm what the condenser is made of? And how could alcoholics manage to make a distiller with a copper condenser!!! I remembered a case when a guy distilled moonshine in galvanized containers. After three shots, usually experienced enthusiasts use titanium or stainless steel, but stainless steel can also contain some impurities of copper or brass.

The tests have sensitivity based on the therapeutic doses of copper-containing drugs, so there is no need to measure.
