• Survey - which salt do you use and why did you prefer this brand.

  • Kevin3114

There is a desire to conduct a survey about what type of salt people use and why.

Jesse3979

Sera. Normal raw material. Used it for about 8 years... Made in FRG.

James3382

Coral Zucht missed. Six months - the flight is normal.

John3165

I used Instant Ocean - I really didn't like it!!! It dissolved very poorly. After a day of aeration/circulation, the water was still a bit cloudy. Maybe I was just unlucky and the salt was "fake"... Now I'm using Red Sea Coral Pro - I'm very satisfied.

Ronald5720

Red Sea Pro. My son has been using it for three years and is satisfied, but he didn't like the Aka medic.

Kristin

When I started working with the sea, I used RiffCrystal, the salt is very good. I launched and maintain my SPS aquarium on salt from Tropic Marin. Now I will try the salt from Korallen-Zucht, as there are many positive reviews about it worldwide. I think these three salts are currently the leaders among those available on the market.

Adrienne

here's what I found on the enemy website

Brian7092

I completely agree with the opinion about the salt of the Tetra brand, I am currently using it myself. The salt is good, however, it would still be preferable to switch to the brands mentioned by Doctor Fish.

Jeffrey6189

At Coral Zyucht, the salt is called: "Ree's Best Coral Reef Salt." The survey is not entirely accurate.

Julia

Yes, there is one like that too. I tried it out. Besides the high price, I didn't see any other advantages in it.

Adam4310

Hi Stas! How long have you been using it and what did you expect to see? Everything is already good for you. TTT. And the best is the enemy of the good, as they say. P.S. I started with Red Sea Coral Pro. It's not bad salt, but later, when I bought tests, it started showing consistently high calcium levels. 500-600. This problem still persists. It's not critical, but a similar situation with this salt has been described on . Even a moderator from Red Sea provided explanations regarding the elevated calcium unbalanced with KH.

Kathleen

So what's wrong with elevated calcium? Just pour in carbonate, and everything is fine; you spend less on calcium chloride.

Kimberly3727

It's not that simple. I raised the carbonate with soda. I reached 14. Calcium still didn't drop. The corals got stressed. I stopped. Now the KH is 9-9.5 and calcium is 500. Regarding calcium chloride - I have a calcium reactor. It barely drips. 1 drop every 2 seconds. And not much gas, just enough to keep the pH at 6.8 without triggering the valve.

Rebecca

Right now I'm "finishing off" Red Sea Pro from my old supplies. I will switch to Tropic Marin.

Todd

So why do you need the reactor then? Turn it off if the calcium is 500.

Jennifer7159

I have used all types of salts from the survey except for Reef Salt AC, Sera sea salt, Aqua Medic Reef Salt, and Tetra ine SeaSalt. By the way, TM and TM bioactive are different salts, and it is not included in the survey, just like HW Sea Salt professional, which I also used for a long time. All the salts I used from the list satisfied me and my reef; I am currently using KZ, and everything is fine, with minimal changes.

Anthony4281

What can anyone say, good or bad, about Reef Salt AC?

Joseph9057

Why is this salt - China Reef Salt 20 kg bag - 380 not on the list? They offer it with a trip. It's cheap and cheerful for a simple aquarium. It dissolves well, calcium is about 440 - I measured it yesterday with a Red Sea test.

Charles5941

Characteristic numbers. Amusing. The cheapest salt is in high demand.

Matthew

I suggest we conduct a new survey, so to speak, four years later. Anyone who knows all the brands of salt that are sold and used, please respond and create a new survey.

Jeanne

Why are you so concerned about Chinese salt? You were planning to try some from our guys, the Dnipro residents. I'm watching you))))

Yolanda

Since it's such a hassle, I'll throw in my two cents)) I don't have my own personal marine aquarium at the moment (sold it a long time ago), but for maintenance, we use Elos - Reef Special Formula. And at the office, we're planning to set up a half-ton tank, of course, only with Elos.

Jessica5348

I already took the first sample on-site. Blue trichomes. For the sake of the experiment, I need a second sample weighing about 130-180 grams from different sources. Because I didn't find something in the first one that I consider very important for the reef farming. Off-topic: I don't have paranoia (not a fact), but I felt like I was being watched!

Leah

Is there a fundamental difference between Tropic in Pro-Reef salts and Tropic in Bio-Actif? The question is not even about the differences between these salts, but which one is better? Which is better for an inexperienced aquarist with fish and soft corals (but I plan to add a couple of SPS corals)?

Martha

I understood everything perfectly. I already found the 4kg Pro Reef packaging. I won't splurge on a large bucket for now.... Thank you for your help!!!

Debra

Who has used Tetra ine SeaSalt and switched to another one, please let me know if it makes sense and what has changed. I have been using this salt and can't understand if it's worth switching since many say it's bad salt.

Michelle13

I changed the Tetra salt. I suggest you conduct an experiment. Take a white bucket from the middle (I use buckets from Tetra salt because I bought a lot of this salt back in the day), prepare aquarium water according to the instructions, set up a pump to constantly mix the water, and leave it for a day or two. Then drain the water and look at the walls of the bucket. Decide for yourself whether to continue using this salt. I only used the 20 kg buckets; I never bought smaller packages.

Joseph

Off-topic, I add calcium and soda every day, quite a lot. 700 liters of water, a pack of soda and a kilogram of hexahydrate calcium goes in a month...

Christopher8654

If it's not too much trouble, please post the photos for review. Today I will upload a photo where I have water before and after dissolving salt and after a night. At one point, I tried to check what would happen, and there were no changes; it remained as crystal clear as it was. I should note that I don't use pumps for mixing; I don't pour salt in tons but use containers from 25 kg salt bags. I have hands to mix it, and the salt I use dissolves 100% in 20 minutes. One shot in Zaporizhzhia: I poured 6 liters of glucose per month for a year.

Robert1845

What salt have you switched to? If it's not a secret. And how long have you been using it?

Nicole7122

I have been using Royal Nature for a year and a half, purchased from Agnieszka. I was surprised to find negative reviews about this salt here on the forum. My subjective opinion is that Royal Nature is definitely better than Tetra.

Brent8919

Gentlemen... for the past five years or so, the question "which chemistry is better" will always lead to theosophical reflections and religious debates.
