• please critique the idea)))

In the office, there is a jar with cichlids))) 120 liters... after having a marine tank at home, I got excited about setting up a fish aquarium in the office... I don't have the ability to drill holes and build a sump... hence the idea - to take a powerful external canister filter, fill it with ceramic media, charcoal, remove the sponges (or keep them?)... salt it... put a layer of aragonite sand in the aquarium and add a couple of kilograms of live rocks... and install a couple of circulation pumps... and when it matures, eventually introduce a couple of butterflies... questions: - does such a system have the right to exist? - is a protein skimmer needed?

Darrell5975

Such a system has the right to exist. As I understand, there will be a fishery. If so, everything will be fine; there are many examples, three years of smooth operation. All parameters are normal. Is a pensioner needed? Very much so. Best regards.

I recommend figuring this out first before starting a new aquarium.

Cheryl

Well, I've figured it out... and what's next? The aquarium is working great... the fish are swimming, the hedgehogs are running, the shrimp are flying, all the brown algae are gone, and all the tests are normal...

Amber6362

Thank you... the aquarium will be exclusively for fish... I really liked the Chaetodon Kleini butterflies... but they said I can't have them in my home aquarium because they will nibble on the corals... ((( I understand that I will have to install some kind of external filter???

Stephanie4990

It can be done inside the aquarium as well. Just decorate it as much as possible... If the external option is complicated...

Tiffany5069

I envy you. People spend several years studying and analyzing the processes occurring in a marine aquarium, reading literature, forums, experimenting, sharing experiences... and you managed to figure it out in a month.

Dawn6148

The thing is that the external option is very complicated since the aquarium itself is quite stylish in design... and I don't really want to attach some kind of structure... ((( Two hoses are still bearable... but everything else, I'm still thinking about.... As an option, I found a device called Nano Reefpack 200. But how effective is it? A canister filter seems more reliable... I just need to come up with something for the skimmer.

Laura3673

The NanoReefpack 200 is a better option than a canister filter, in my opinion. Canister filters can bring "fun" surprises in terms of flooding the surrounding area and so on. How many people's careers have they already ruined... The cool thing about it is that it is constantly in the cabinet, and you can't always keep track of what it is "planning." Today, I had to confirm this once again during maintenance. I come to the office, and there’s a puddle under the cabinet. And nobody touched that damn thing, and it was in normal condition after cleaning for about 2.5 weeks... and I even greased the rubber (stone age) with Vaseline, I thought of everything...

Take a more powerful one, also with a foam generator. I have one like that for 300 liters, it's been two years already. It doesn't handle the claimed 500 liters. Now it can't cope with the load, but it's just right for your liters.

Nicholas2252

Butterflies need water quality similar to that in a spring. Plus, there are feeding issues in the early stages, so think about it.

Thank you.... )) knock on wood... I've been using canisters in freshwater tanks for about ten years - so far without surprises... but I got the general idea.. Thanks))) I looked at the price... it would be easier to set up a new aquarium))) with holes and a sump)))) after all, I have 120 liters - minus the rocks - minus the sand - minus the filter shaft - realistically, I'll have about 100 liters of water, God willing... can it really not pump 10-20 volumes per hour??? Thank you, noted... I understand this, and for now, I'm just thinking, designing, practicing "on cats" at home... and in any case, I will get good, healthy, well-fed fish... ))))
