• Questions of the Teapot (Part 5): Corals (Classification).

I often see inscriptions like SPS, LPS, and so on. I can't understand. I know there are soft and hard... Who can explain in detail the classification of corals, the features of keeping each group (preferably also mentioning representatives)?

Bdin! But it’s written in bourgeois there :-(

Okay... I'll take care of this issue, try to figure it out, and post it on the forum in an accessible and readable format...

In simpler terms, this is a classification for aquarists; in reality, the systematics are much more complex. For example, anemones are relatives of hard corals, as they are closer in structure. SPS and LPS differ in appearance: SPS have small polyps on the skeleton, such as Acropora and Porites, while LPS have large polyps, like Plerogyra and Euphyllia. They also differ in their care requirements accordingly.
