• Filter for marine aquarium

  • Crystal

Hello everyone. I recently (a couple of weeks ago) changed the filter, and as soon as I clean it, the balance gets disrupted. How long will this last and how can I deal with it? The aquarium is six months old, and there were no such problems with the old filter.

Kathleen

So, when you rinse the filter, you can't go straight?! I've never noticed a change in the bio-balance. Whether I rinse the canister or the sponge from the internal filter - it's all the same. A disruption in the bio-balance due to the filter is nonsense.

Brandi

You need to give advice yourself, not ask for it.

Courtney

Nothing is clear. In which aquarium did you change the filter? More details about the aquarium, what about the plants, the inhabitants, and the substrate? What filter did you install? What do you rinse in it? In my internal filter, I rinse or replace the synthetic cotton, but I haven't really rinsed the sponges since the setup, and it seems to me that bacteria live not only in the filter but also in the substrate. There is little initial information.

Why rinse it? I only wash the sponges of the foam filter in my canister. Maybe that's the reason for the problem?

Can a filler for biological treatment work forever? Sooner or later, it will get clogged and will need to be either cleaned or replaced.

It seems that no one suggested not cleaning it forever, but washing it every couple of weeks... at least raises suspicions that either it is being cleaned too often and not allowing the bacteria colony to develop properly, or the filter is not suitable for this volume of the aquarium.

If you have such a set of creatures in a 150-liter tank as listed in the profile, I don't even know which filter could handle such a load.

Nancy

Well, you can also help the filter by doing more frequent replacements; oh, how the filter gets unloaded.
