It's not rational, too much hassle for little benefit. It's better to make a DSB. For substrate, fine sand is the best (the finer, the better), ideally coral sand - about 6-10 centimeters. If the sand is silicate, it should be checked to ensure it doesn't leach silicates. I haven't heard about marble chips in the sea.
Shawn
I agree about the false bottom. You can also use marble chips in the substrate; they are not much different from coral, especially if it's a fish tank, it will be great.
Maria
What are you planning, anyway?
Joshua9340
I would advise not to clutter the aquarium, just add enough substrate to cover the bottom.
James3382
Explain, or rather decode what has been said above...
Jeffery
Dear (name) suggests a layer of 6-10 cm (which I don't quite understand), what do you think about this?
Jessica
DSB - Deep Sand Bed. A layer of very fine sand inhabited by various small living organisms. It is used for filtration and even breaks down nitrates. You can read more about it here and ask questions.
Pamela
Dear
Melissa2062
DSB actually works at 10 centimeters and above, and it will take a long time to start functioning; initially, detritus will accumulate and rot, which will spoil the water. This needs to be monitored, and if this is your first aquarium, you can easily do without it. Having a sufficient amount of live rock plus a skimmer will have a greater effect than this layer of substrate.
Nancy
I think we can discard DSB if a large SAM is installed (but we'll discuss the ground later).
SEAMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARE THERE REALLY NO IDEAS OR ADVICE?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
Teresa
How will the samp replace biofiltration?
About what?
Natalie
I also don't get how sand will replace DSB. Marble chips in a marine aquarium? In the next life!!! And DSB is better made with LCD + DSB + a good skimmer - that's the foundation for good water quality, and don't forget to ensure sufficient flow in the aquarium.
Nicole
Marble chips in a marine aquarium? In the next life!!!
- Why not? I've seen several magnificent aquariums with marble chips on the bottom, and they were reef aquariums!
Johnny
This is referred to as a "nitrate factory." How will you get rid of the nitrates? DSB and live rocks provide complete biofiltration, removing ammonia/ammonium, nitrites, and nitrates. Are live rocks planned at all? As for marble chips, in my opinion, coral looks much more natural and beautiful. For example, I have coral chips of 2-3mm, with a layer no more than 2cm. Although it looks even better with sand, I couldn't find coral sand.
Stephanie3084
White marble chips, especially the fine ones, are not much different from coral sand.
Melinda2740
Yura, why is there marble here? It should raise the carbonate level, and you'll need to pour in unbalanced calcium, maybe something else too. I admit that the problem can be solved, but why create it for yourself? And then, will any critters settle in the gravel? I would add about 5 centimeters of substrate - it may not be a full DSB, but I think it's better than nothing.
Brandy
Well, so what - there's nothing deadly about it - it's not a problem, although they say that a high KH level knocks out Magnesium, but how true that is is unknown.
I saw the little crumb being inhabited myself - when I took a bit of substrate from my aquarium (for starting) - there were some little shrimp jumping around in it, and that was the crumb.
I think it's quite suitable for a budget option.
Cynthia6578
Why "Nitrate Factory"? - Take another look at this topic... after 2 months of this filter's operation, the nitrate level is "0"!!! This filter has both anaerobic and aerobic sections. Live rocks will certainly be present...
Loretta5483
We have Live Sand for sale - price $200 - 9 kg - delivery will take a week....
Tasha
TO What is so expensive?
Laura7633
Who knows... They say they're bringing it from Moscow...
Steven
How much is live rock? I need 45 kilograms.
Michelle5859
Yeah, just need a decent skimmer, not some SEA CLONE or Turboflotor 1000.
Amber6362
I recognize well.
Diana8604
Cool! For that money, you could probably buy 10 kilos of live stones instead... He might be cooler... but 200 for a bag where you don't even know what's inside, plus you don't know how long it has already been "alive"... and how it will arrive...
Spencer7805
In Moscow, they sell junk food by the kilogram (sometimes), so if you want, you can bring a couple.
2 Igor () What's wrong with SEA CLONE? I'm planning to buy one for myself.
Jose
Everything is fine with him, just a rare piece of crap, otherwise everything is normal.
David4968
If I'm not mistaken, the price of Si Clown is no less than a hundred euros; for that money, you can make a good pen yourself.
Kevin262
According to "the latest intelligence data," skimmers are actually harmful at sea, as they extract not only organic matter but also beneficial organisms, including plankton.
Joseph9057
The most harmful in a marine aquarium are fish and invertebrates—they pollute the water. Therefore, I definitely do not recommend keeping them in a marine aquarium.
Daniel8015
The equipment there consists only of lamps and an external filter, nothing else, no mixing pumps or skimmers.
Tanner
Actually, he writes that he started a no-skim experiment at the end of July this year - he is not boasting about the results yet.
Martin3206
However, to avoid further disputes, I want to say that I need a powerful skimmer, kalkwasser, and calcium reactor to feel at ease not being home for days, knowing that I have a stable system, and also to regularly change 40% of the aquarium volume every month.
Robert5335
Will you post a photo of the aquarium?
Hunter1471
I think it's 140 or 160, but I have problems with "doing it myself" and I won't take on an external skimmer - I don't want to come home from work to find the aquarium overflowed onto the floor.
And what exactly is the issue: is it noisy, does it poorly produce foam, is it expensive, low-powered, or do you just not like the design?
John
I bought a skimmer for 200, and I can't get enough of it, the pump is 3000, everything works perfectly.
Sara
Low-powered and therefore poorly aerates
But it will do as an aerator
David4089
I found some for $17 - $18 from Fiji - very good quality, plus delivery to Kyiv. If you're interested, I can arrange it. It will arrive next week.
John828
Good price!
Jessica6754
What is live rock?
Tasha
live rock - LR - live rocks - live rocks
Zachary
What is happening here?
Cindy
Regarding the purchase of stones! Maybe someone else will buy as well - I also want to buy - and with a good volume, a discount is expected!!!! So I am very much interested in partners - I will take care of organizing the delivery with Autolux!!!
Kimberly3727
"Living stones" refer to ordinary pieces of limestone or other calcareous rock that have been in the sea for some time and have been inhabited by various invertebrates and algae.
Wow!!! I apologize for my French...
I always thought, like a fool, that real living stones are a product of the life activity of hard corals.
Caleb6320
It seemed right.
Matthew1280
so that it wouldn't seem to me, I was being ironic
Ronald
broken shells, but without fine gravel. And why will they become silted if laid in a layer of 1-2 cm (just to cover the bottom), isn't the strong current in the aquarium going to help?
Sydney
Pavel, why are you not considering coral crumb? Is it because of the high cost?
Alexander
Stereotype "if it's a marine aquarium, then the substrate must be made of crushed coral."
Why only crushed coral - what about other options?
Jessica9188
In my opinion, coral gravel will be the most natural in a marine aquarium. Even better is aragonite sand (read - coral). Or white quartz.
And the "stereotype" is not always a bad thing. For example, a car should have four wheels. That's also a stereotype.
Stephen5841
You can experiment with DSB in Samp.
Ashley5975
I think this option can be considered when we look at the SAM itself. :-)
Darrell7542
In Greece, 10 kg of American aragonite with bacteria costs 55-60 euros. Is someone making a good profit?
Barbara
Yes, I use this aragonite, it's great + it helps to start the aquarium very quickly.
Reginald5073
Marble chips do no harm. The aquarium I built 5 years ago was filled with marble chips, and everything is fine.
