Good day! There is an opportunity to purchase dry reef rocks (C.R.K.) from a cichlid tank at a bargain price (20 kg). Can they be used in a marine aquarium (planning for 200 liters + sump of about 80 liters)? Please don't judge too harshly! I haven't kept marine before, but I want to start with minimal investment. I've read a lot about the initial setup and further maintenance, but live rocks (L.R.) are expensive and not so easy to obtain (Luhansk). Thank you in advance!

In my opinion, the issue is not that S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) is just cement with calcium, but rather that cement with calcium is often not priced at 15 per kg, and there might also be some decay hidden deep within the rock as a bonus, which can cause issues later on. The real magic is likely not in the rocks but in the seawater and its stable parameters. Good luck!

The question is whether there will be problems with water due to the presence of all sorts of impurities from the freshwater aquarium in the pores of the stone. I read that such stones need to be soaked in solutions (I don't remember the composition) and clean water.

Of course, you can extract it in peroxide, then rinse it in a survey for a week, and voila!

It's not so much about the organic matter that can be extracted, but rather about the chemical composition of the stone itself and the reactions to salty water thereafter.

Thank you all! I will take it.
