With 300 liters, if there is one winged one, then everything is possible without a foam gun and without a canister (delayed action bombs).
Nicole7122
The canister is already available. Who can suggest where to read or maybe someone will take mentorship?
Danny
And we didn't want to deal with the SAMP and the foam, but reality suggested that it was better to be safe. So we glued an internal SAMP of 32*30 cm, where we placed the foam and the return.

Shere Khan is completely right, but the bomb referred to is not the one passing through a canister filter, although such a disaster is possible, but rather that the cruise missile requires food every day, after which it defecates, and this accumulates in the soil, if there are stones, and is not eliminated or processed. That's two bombs.
Jasmine
Without a sample, it's impossible. Considering that over time you'll want more... It's better to do it with a margin, at least a minimal one) Plus, 2 bombs that I didn't think about.

"Greens," like in fresh water, contain part of the "toxins." The main problem in my case is to minimize substitutions. What can you recommend in terms of basic equipment (lighting, skimmer) that would be sufficient for the next step (soft corals, maybe something simpler from hard corals)? The sump will be 130-170 liters.
Dawn6148
Question? What skimmer performance would be optimal? The total water volume is estimated at 450 liters (320 aquarium + 130 sump). If it is stated for aquariums up to 500 liters, will it work, or should I take one with a "margin"? The return pump should pump about 10 volumes? UV is calculated at 1 watt per 15 liters? Light, how many watts or how to calculate?
Vincent
Considering that sooner or later I will want at least soft corals, I want to focus on lighting for soft corals, and I want to keep the budget for lighting around 17-18 thousand, LED lights.

The following question arose. What substrate should I use? I have rounded coral gravel "Flamingo" 0.5-1.5 mm available. Is it possible to use this substrate, or is it categorically not allowed, and I will have to buy sand? If sand is needed, can I use Hagen sand?
Julie
Flamingo sand Coral crumb is not suitable.
Hagen substrate sand 1-2 mm is not quartz, as it is neutral sand, but coral sand will not be neutral!

What do you think about a material like karolit? I saw it mentioned on a forum, but I can't find that topic and I don't know what happened next. You can get almost any fraction in Kyiv (from dust to 3-5mm).

I had one like this in Arovana, but mine was from 0.5mm to 1mm. It sat unused for two years until I replaced it; it gets clogged, and that's why I didn't like it.

As far as I understand, my aquarium needs at least 30 kg of rock if I take a 50/50 ratio of live rock (Л.К.) to dry reef rock (С.Р.К.). This ratio is normal with a total weight of 30-40 kg. I understand that the more live rock (Л.К.), the better, but the "family accountant" saw my calculations and is demanding to cut the budget.

Choosing between Flamingo and Hagen, I would choose Flamingo, but that's just based on the description. As for the carolite, it's simple: if it leaches phosphates, it can't be used; if it doesn't leach, it can be used. I would also check Flamingo for phosphates just in case. It's easy to check: put some sand in a glass, add some water and a bit of acid until almost all the sand dissolves, and then test for phosphates. If it shows the presence of phosphates, then the sand goes in the trash.

What acid? How much is a little?
Joseph
It is described quite well here. I would add that you should look for snow-white karolit, as the presence of impurities will color it in different shades, and the whiter it is, the more likely it is to suit you.

The first residents have settled in. 3 winged ones. Before that, a couple of fan worms and other small creatures that lived in the rocks were occasionally noticed.

Congratulations on the salting. It's not entirely clear from the photo; if the aquarium is transparent, the stones should not touch the glass anywhere, otherwise you won't be able to clean the glass, and it will look unattractive.
Joshua3019
The aquarium is not transparent. The stones are positioned so that two stones touch the glass, one against the overflow column and one against the back wall in the middle of the slope.
