• Choosing the size of the aquarium!

  • Kathy

Dear experts and gurus, I am planning to order an aquarium but I can't decide on the size. Which aquarium would look better and more impressive? A cube 70-70-70 without edges and braces made of 10mm glass, or 120-60-60 made of 12mm glass?

I'm not a guru; I've had an aquarium for about 4 years, but I've seen a lot. The bigger the aquarium, the better it looks; 120-60-60 is a classic (like two cubes together). It will be very convenient to maintain and ideal for decoration, plus the fish will have more space to dig in the substrate. Overall, length is very important, especially for larger fish, but such a cube will also be good. In terms of costs, they are practically identical. In general, consult with specialists; it seems the second option can also be made from 10mm glass (just with a double bottom and double ribs for rigidity and wider).

Thank you! I also want more 120-60-60, but without ribs and ties for sure! Then the glass is 12mm, and the cost increases. But beauty requires sacrifices!

A cube with 10mm and a height of 70cm will tear apart like paper! (This is without ribs and braces). Regarding 120 by 60 by 60... 12mm will be sufficient as long as you fill the water no higher than 60cm. Therefore, I recommend making the height 62-63cm and the water column 60cm, and no braces are needed.

I don't want to make the height above 60 cm! It's inconvenient to maintain the aquarium. I would prefer 50 cm, but many say it won't look good. Thank you for the advice!

It all depends on what you will have there. If it's a planted tank, then a height of 50 cm is the maximum, but if it's a cichlid tank, for example, then 60 cm is better.

Compared to the overall costs, the price of the aquarium itself is negligible; don't spare money on the aquarium, it will cost you around 10,000 rubles, and any good pump is more expensive.

I absolutely agree with you! A good lamp, skimmer, etc. will cost much more! I will order 120-60-60, everyone starts with a smaller volume and then moves on to a larger one. I hope I won't regret my choice. Thank you for the advice! The topic is closed.
