This is most likely Crimean cavernous sandstone. It is possible, but it will emit phosphates (and maybe other substances) for quite a long time (one to two years). You won't be able to process them in any way.

Stacey4437

Then suggest what is better to use... J.K. (living stones) are out of the question, we have no way to get them...

Angel2396

Both J.K. (live rocks) and S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) can be quickly obtained by parcel.

Angela7060

Post #11 I can send the package.

Mary

g., it is not L.R. (live rocks) and not D.R. (dry reef rocks)

Sarah

Well, if you've started, let's continue... "Gathering advice and opinions..." What is better for a beginner, "Dry reef rock" or "Live rock"?

Curtis9143

Alright... S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) - there is no life, and you'll have to populate it yourself... L.C. (live rocks) - there is life present..., but it's unknown what kind of life it is, and how many parasites there might be... which I understand can sometimes be very difficult to remove...

Kenneth7331

What other parasites?

Rita

Alright, not parasites... I mean, there can be organisms that will gladly feed on corals...

Karen

They are more likely to end up with the corals. But that's not scary.

Sara

It's a pity that in such a good topic, no one suggested options for where to buy J.K. (live stones) and from whom they are better.))))

Michelle104

Everyone already knows who sells J.K. (living stones), and some have better quality, while others offer lower prices. As for better or worse, that's a matter of color and taste. This is one thing, but another depends on the supplies. It's not furniture that just sits and waits for its buyer.

Christopher3770

Unfortunately, not everyone knows! For example, I am a beginner in this matter; when it comes to filtration, salt, and water, there is plenty of information available in forums and literature (though the latter is somewhat lacking), but where and how to obtain live rocks, which are crucial for the start, is completely unclear. This is especially true for those living outside large cities. I searched in nearby countries but found nothing, and there is no one to ask for help.

Catherine6534

You have three sailors in Uzhhorod, if I remember correctly. You need to find them and get in touch with them. Vitaliy, born in 1984, from Uzhhorod. They will advise you. Kyiv.

James4342

Comprehensive answer, thank you! I know two sailors))) But I'm still looking for people who have information about the huge base in Nyíregyháza. Since you can go there and choose the stones yourself, but I don't know the address yet; I was only at their aquarium (an unforgettable sight). But I can't wait any longer, I will ask to send me J.K. (living stones) from Kyiv...

Monica

In Kyiv, in fact, imports and sells J.K. (live rocks) and S.R.K. (dry reef rocks).

Nancy758

Can I have a photo of J.K. (living stones)?

Samuel6138

It sounds like all suppliers buy from you. We definitely do not belong to this list and have never been on it!!! Sincerely, iReef company.

Gene1948

The most beautiful and high-quality J.K. (living stones) is a fact - I recommend it! P.S. Don't get involved with Airif, that's my advice (just take a look at their communication style).

Christopher4125

I bought J.K. (live rocks) and S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) from the company iReef, and I want to say that I am very grateful for the recommendations! The rock arrived amazing, especially the number of sitting feather worms))) The shape of J.K. (live rocks) and S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) is diverse and very porous... With gratitude, Tatiana.

Sheila1322

The guys did their best - well done!

Michael3221

I bought S.R.K. (dry reef rocks). What should I do next? Wash? Soak? Boil? Bake in the oven?

Jose

Here, read the topic.

Beth3383

I have read it already, but I didn't understand anything... The first link describes the process..., are there any other ways???

Julie3950

Thank you, but what if starting from scratch? We don't have marine aquariums in our city, no live rocks, no water... In short, we have nothing, but we want it!!!

Alejandro

I am starting from scratch, soaked it for about a week and cleaned it with a brush under running water. Now I am pouring the column and into the aquarium. I will fill the aquarium as much as possible with macrophytes and let it mature. That's all the math. The dry substrate will leach in any case, so it's just a matter of time to start it up and wait, measuring the parameters until they reach normal levels.

Heather2018

It feels like we are not reading the same forum; in the classifieds section, you can buy EVERYTHING here.

Yolanda

Don't worry so much, even if you had local "dealers" in marine aquaristics, you would still come to the conclusion that it's easier and cheaper to buy from other cities (you'll just overpay at the start). At first, it seems daunting and wild, but then you'll get into it. Create a topic, and there you'll get advice on what to do and how.

Eric

Regarding the Black Sea stones, I will say the following: don't listen to anyone, especially about the porous ones. Just make sure they don't crumble and that the main material is limestone. Wash the dry stones well in water, then place them in boiling water for 1 hour, and after that, you can put them in the aquarium! As for phosphates, they are everywhere.
