Off-topic question in the category of "How much does a computer cost?" or "How much does a car cost?"... It ALL depends on what exactly you want to buy - a 30-liter sea can be assembled by yourself for 1000-1500, a 500-liter sea for 1000-1500 euros or even more.
David4089
Consider the cost to be 8-10 dollars per liter, averaged like that.
James5032
It depends on the volume... but overall it's not expensive and not as complicated as many say... The question of how many liters is very debatable... there are corals for 400 bucks that are 5 by 5 cm... and you can also find them here at the flea market for very good prices... Choose which type of launch you want (there were 2-3 topics here about types of launches) and everything will fall into place...
Cassandra1840
The main thing is to get involved, and then the money will flow like a river.

Just like in freshwater, just like in a terrarium, just like in any hobby.

For the price of the aquariums mentioned in the links, you can assemble a good aquarium with a capacity of 200 to 300 liters. Currently, a used Aquael is being sold for 2000, which is quite decent. Alternatively, you can get a new Boyu TL-550, which is an equivalent of the Sera but costs half as much.
Erica
What does it mean to go around?
I want an aquarium of about 100 liters.
Buy equipment. This is still far from all the expenses; there are also rocks and sand. But I'm also interested in water... I think salt is the biggest expense. Or am I wrong?
Sara4035
in the online store Lapulya
Ronald
I have a normal aquarium like that. I just need to add light. Then consider - 10 kg of live rock - 2000, sand - 100-300, salt - 250. That's the minimum. Then there's the livestock.
Brianna
That means when you calculate all the expenses, it will come out to about a thousand. A significant amount is for J.K. (live rocks), sand, and salt, and then there will be tests needed, a flow pump, corals, fish, etc., so it will indeed come to 1K.
Michael
I have no direct connection to this store.
Devon107
That's right - about $10 per liter. This is not even with the most expensive equipment yet...
Jonathan6173
Well, now China makes quite decent equipment.
Robert800
I got 1.25 currency units per liter under LED light.
Marie5348
Sanya, your expenses for sand - S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) - L.K. (live rocks) are small.
Tracy
I have no expenses on them at all, but what prevents me from going after them myself like Slava and many others?! And then not having problems with...
Kevin8087
I'm joking.
Aaron580
Yes, I'm planning to go to Tarkhankut with Igor on the 12th.

Off-topic. You won't regret it, both of you. More sand and, most importantly, more water. Seryoga, if there are hermits for sale, I want to reserve one right away. Aren't you freezing? I don't go into the water anymore.
Monica
Don't scare the person!
Decent skimmer for 100 liters +-700
Decent light for 100 liters +-1000
Sand 250
Rocks can be mixed with dry reef rocks and live rocks +-2000
The aquarium itself +-600
Salt with a reserve +-350
Current can be taken +-400
Total 5300 for the initial setup.
As for the livestock, that's a completely different question... you can buy corals for 300 bucks, or you can find them for 30 or even 10 bucks.
Vanessa6144
It's fine for me, I can easily afford it.
Danielle9144

This does not mean that there is none. I have all the equipment - China. There are no complaints about the work. By the way, I changed the "company" that was dying or breaking down very quickly.
Stuart
Nevertheless, many use them, break them, and buy them again.
Jennifer9100
It's interesting what kind of "sea" this is for such money? I ended up with 450 liters of freshwater for 1500 USD.
Daniel
Marine aquarium..... I have no idea where to bury 1.5 kilobucks in a freshwater tank of not the largest volume.
Michael3221
The point is that a good baker doesn't differ much from the sea in financial terms.

If someone thinks that something is still being produced in Europe these days, they are deeply mistaken - just relabeling a product in the EU doesn't mean it was actually produced there, and the price is indeed different, but the result...
Michelle
800 liters
everything in the photo costs 8000 dollars (missing fish and corals)
Steven
It's not even about that. In Europe, they make things FOR EUROPE! Taking into account their quality power supply networks, etc. Their "native" equipment simply can't withstand our conditions. It's like trying to drive a Lamborghini on our roads - you'll wreck it in no time.
Allison
At first, I tried to calculate the cost of my "setup" (600 liters). It came out to 5600 currency units without fish and corals, but I did a LOT of things myself (including the stand, lighting, etc.). Plus, I will have less equipment. I also didn't count the reverse osmosis system - I've had it since my freshwater setup. However, I should note that such a setup is not ideal. You end up having to change and redo things later, which leads to extra expenses.
Andrew7823
I understand this is about the renovation shown in the photo?
Debbie3587
Whereee????
Andrea
well, maybe a few Vortexes, Delteks in SAMP, etc.
Robert800
It is certainly necessary to specify this in the title of the topic, because if you assemble and complete the system yourself, it will cost one amount, but if the complex is ordered turnkey, then, of course, its cost will be different; this is also a business and includes all interests and expenses.
Karen81
What's the point? I bought 4 San-Sans. After 2 months, one broke, and two started spinning in the opposite direction. Should I buy again? I had an external Atman. Opening and closing it was quite a hassle. I bought an Eheim and was happy for a couple of years until I switched to saltwater. Yes, there are good Chinese products, but only those that belong to Western companies and are controlled by them. Sorry for the comparison, but Ecco shoes made not in Denmark, but somewhere in the East, last for years. So, excuse me, I'm against non-branded cheap Chinese products. "We are not rich enough to buy cheap things."
Bethany
To become a brand, it takes time.
Andrew9246
Start it up, and then figure it out from there.
I'm putting together a 400L aquarium, and here's the math.
Aquarium + stand 5k.
Lighting 550 euros (without bulbs).
Protein skimmer Deltec TS 1250 - 350 euros.
Return + flow (China) at least another hundred greens.
Sump around a hundred greens.
And then there are computers, top-offs, salt... beans... rocks...
Jeffrey6189
I don't know, I currently have 7 San-Sans worth 3000 and 5000 lch in total. Some are 2 years old, and some I bought used. So far, none have failed. Sometimes, after the power goes out, one might spin in the opposite direction, but it's no big deal; I just reconnect it or move the screw with a stick in the other direction, and it works fine afterward. Vortech is great, no doubt about it, but if you calculate how many you can buy from China that work just fine, it's better to spend that money on lighting or a good foam cannon.
Dawn6148
Although I will buy Vortech someday, at the initial stage and if the budget is limited, it doesn't make sense, that's what I wanted to say.
Jeffery
Well, if I count everything at the new prices:
the aquarium with the stand and sump will be around 1000 euros.
The LED light that I ordered is 800 euros.
Tuna streams - 150 euros (3 pieces).
Return of Eheim 1260 - 125 euros (it seems the new stock costs that).
UV - 100 euros.
Sand - 60 euros.
Penny - 380 euros.
Rocks (live rocks + dry reef rocks) totaling about 60-70 kg - 550 euros.
Salt 20 kg - 45 euros.
In total, 3210 euros, which is about 3550 USD at the new prices. It actually cost me a third less.
As for corals and fish, I’m sorry, but I just can’t calculate that; I forget the prices as soon as I finish calculating.
John3142
Well, here it is, almost the same volume—and the price turned out to be the same.
Randall7906
Why count the salt in the budget? And the substitutions? Or can you fly to paradise with just one bucket?)))
Kathy
Well, for the launch you need
And then either substitutions or traces, or balling - it depends on what one is capable of.
......................
I also forgot to count the installation of the osmosis, that's another 150 currency units.
Mary
And you say "Where ???"
Hannah
By the way, I also forgot to count osmosis +100 euros, and whether we need to install Balling or a calcium reactor +200 euros somewhere... But at the moment, it’s not available... However, to be fair, I should note that I actually spent about half of this, maybe a little more... I agree - "where" we have already decided. But "8k" dollars, where????
Todd
This is very budget-friendly; the photo does not yet show the cladding of the cabinet and aquarium, plus this amount. And what kind of salt do you have for 45 euros for 20 kg? Also, 5 euros for live rocks is not a realistic price, and this applies to all items. The Eheim 1260 is 240 euros, and each Tunze pump is 150, not 3. This is roughly how it adds up to 8 or more K$.
Theresa5149
Off-topic Guys, can I ask you to bring 2 hermits - clibanaria ???? If of course they crawl in on their own!) If they don't come on their own - don't worry!) It's on me.
Tina
Offtopic, we will see.
Dennis
You are providing prices in Germany, from eBay, different prices, and also for 8K a commercial aquarium is shown, from which people earn, not a hobbyist one. That's why I wrote that these two categories need to be separated. In Russia, the Eheim 1260 costs about 240 euros, the Salt Tropic Marin Pro Reef is 120 euros, so any configuration needs to be discussed locally. Live rocks are 38 euros, etc.
David
Please be so kind as to avoid cluttering the topic in private messages.

Yes, I can do it myself for at least 150. The question is how much it costs the end consumer, "turnkey."

Sanya, why did you decide that I'm sending you and everyone else to Tarkhan? I didn't go there myself. I wrote, "people take it and go."
As for the question of how much the sea costs, sorry, 50 kg of live rocks cost me 1000 USD, and then I struggled for a bright future in the form of a long start. Here, you immediately have a stable and resilient system.
If it's a mini, then buying 10 kg of live rocks is indeed a very reasonable solution. But if it's around 350 liters, personally, I would start with dry reef rocks and Prodibio and KZ.

We calculated yesterday with Igor. A round trip for two days will cost 400-500 per person. In total, 30-50 kg of J.K. (live stones) will cost me 10-12 per kg. And it's not much closer from Donetsk to Tarkhankut than from Kyiv.
Karen1649
4th alternative - launch on J.K. (live stones) C.M. (Black Sea, Black Sea) - without foam generator - on two pumps
Linda
What corals will live here?
Or rather, live rocks + pen shell + calcareous reactor + pomace: what corals can live here?
This is not personal to you, but let's close the topic of types of launches. It's just not serious at all.
Jose
How many people is this for? I calculated it here... if I go alone: gas 1300, consumables (oil, filters, etc. based on maintenance for 10,000 km) about 300, accommodation 300. In total, approximately 2000, which is 40 kg of dry reef rocks or 12 kg of live rocks. So there's no point in going just for the rock... If you combine business with pleasure, that's a different story.
Barbara
6-7 people. Gazelle. You can always find like-minded individuals.
And also go diving.

Don't flood the discussion!
James5032
My 100-liter reef cost me almost $2,000. I counted everything from the hydrometer to the livestock.
Steven757
If 2k$ is 2 thousand dollars, then it seems that I also have 550 with Boy, but that's with the expensive Vortex.
Michelle1505
I don't have a Vortech yet, but I have an auto top-off, a computer, and LEDs... And don't forget that starting a second to fifth aquarium is cheaper since you already have a lot of things, like salt, tests, RO water, tweezers, etc.
Chelsea
We count the money on 7 pages. And time? After all, it's not us for the aquarium, but the aquarium for us. It's not the main thing how much money you invested, but how much time you will spend on maintenance and how much on enjoying life in the sea.
Jacob4800
You are right, I find this very interesting too. It is very important; there is an opinion that a marine aquarium consumes a lot of time and money. That's why I started this topic to understand how realistic this is for me. I am very grateful to the forum participants. Please tell me more about how much time needs to be spent on maintenance each day and how much money is needed each month? Once again, thank you all very much!
Wendy8540
I spend a few hours on maintenance on Saturday, not counting the daily feeding, of course. I haven't calculated the monthly expenses, but it's not much - mainly for feed. One bucket (670) of salt is enough for a year. I haven't calculated the electricity either.
Mariah
Well, it takes about 5-20 minutes a day to feed, top off, etc. And on weekends, wash everything you want... maybe a water change... or personally feed the corals...
Tiffany5069
Wow! And the cost (for a large aquarium). And also the cost of electricity for cooling in the summer. I left for all of July, leaving 2 air conditioners on in the apartment (2 aquariums in different rooms). The bastards in the parliament passed a resolution that over 800 kWh is charged at 1. I ended up using 1200. Zhenya almost killed me.
Amanda
And what’s next? I can’t reduce it, so it’s better not to know. I have an aquarium that uses about 1 kW per hour plus the air conditioner (I don’t know how much).
Natasha
I'm so clever for knowing how to use the timer on the air conditioner.
Leslie
Off-topic This was a recommendation from Ukrenergo - it was not accepted. But after the elections...
Erin2730
Well, everyone can do it, but what's the point? If the temperature in the aquarium exceeds the limit, it doesn't matter if you have a timer or not, you just have to turn it on.
David7773
I was talking about this
I also left for more than a month, set a timer, and everything was fine with the electricity bill. That's all I wanted to say.

Offtopic Thank you, buddy!!! Those bastards... actually... quietly pulled it off and still got people registered (with the Ministry of Justice on September 14, 2012).
After they invented this, there was a big uproar and they backed off - I know this because I live in a private house... for us, 800 kW in summer - by the way, with a classic marine aquarium (300 liters) consuming about 900 kW, it was a lot, but now with two pumps and 200 watts of LED, it doesn't worry me much.
Brenda
In the spring, the aquarium moved to the kitchen, the air conditioner from the room couldn't reach it, so it was cooled by a 120mm fan through a controller, and the temperature didn't rise above 28 degrees; sometimes the fan even stopped. The almost 200-liter aquarium consumes about 100 kWh per month, while the air conditioner, which is 7-11 kW and runs all day (non-inverter), didn't exceed 650 kWh in the summer, and around 300 kWh at other times.
John828
I have a small place in Kyiv, 24 square meters, and it consumes about 1 kilowatt... In general, you need to keep track of the electricity... I spend about 40 euros a month on electricity, 23 cents per kilowatt... The more water there is, the more it consumes...
Sydney
Jealousy from the apartment's area. I have a 7 and an 18.
William
Now in "how much does an aquarium cost" it is necessary to include the price of electricity, and it will only keep rising. Exceeding the limit and paying 801-1000 for electricity... that's already impressive.
It's good for those who have an apartment... but for those with a private house, we have a Daikin inverter that powers the entire first floor and works non-stop, maintaining a temperature of +23. On the second floor, there's a small inverter called Lyzha, plus a hydrophore, a garden pump, a pool, lawn mowers, and I am constantly circulating, milling, welding, and cutting something; in fact, the welding is also an inverter.
But still, in the summer, even with the first system, it turned out to be 800-850-900 kWh.
Jerry
And what about the miracle magnets? Or has the seasoned one already been forced to install a meter? We have some electronic one installed in Kyiv now, and it even counts the light bulb on the TV when it "sleeps"...
Christopher8654
We are already talking about an average amount of at least $1000 for 100 liters for experienced aquarists, and at least $2000 for beginners. This is the amount that needs to be spent to somehow launch the system. The expenses we will have to maintain the system are a completely different story. This explains why "marine aquarists" are a rarity today, and why there are no stores dealing with marine aquariums in cities with a population of less than 1 million. The myth begins to be confirmed. But the sea is worth the investment of time and money.
Jeffrey496
You see, to taste the sea, you can put a 20-30 liter jar, and if you refine it, it will be just amazing—one such jar inspired me to start a marine aquarium. And the costs for such aquariums are minimal.
James3382
A nano aquarium is a hassle; I don't know about the sea, but in freshwater, it's like that. I also don't like micro aquariums; why throw money away? I plan to make an aquarium of about 100 to 200 liters. That's really the minimum from which I think one can start. I'm deciding whether to buy a ready-made set or to come up with something myself. I've picked out a nice light for it... It's pretty good. I'm struggling with the aquarium; I can't glue anything, and I'm not a DIY person at all. I'll have to pay for everything and also look for people who can do it... it's easier for you in that regard. By the way, what do you think about this setup?
Stuart
If you have the money, go for it. This is one of the best options among ready-made aquariums. But personally, I would choose Aquael ReefMAX. In my opinion, it’s better...

if it turns out to be more expensive, then of course it's better
it depends on the tasks; if it's something not complicated or average, then it might not be worth the hassle and just buy something ready-made
Thomas1044
The standard set includes:
1. Return pump (I recommend Hydor Seltz L30).
2. Flow pumps (Hydor Koralia 900 l/h) - 2 pcs.
3. Wave pump.
4. Protein skimmer.
Kenneth2761
It seems to be a metal axis here. In 130 liters, you can manage without pumps for circulation, just on the return. I've seen more than one such aquarium.
Danielle9144
I haven't disassembled it yet, but it's been working for a year and a half. It's quite good, but I would still recommend installing at least one circulation pump.
Dana6523
I want a yellow zebra snail, a pair of clownfish, an anemone, a surgeonfish, and a butterflyfish.
Chelsea567
I had a return of 150 liters + Coralia 4500 + Aquael 2000. So it all depends on the goals.
Your aquarium won't be enough for such a setup.
April3499
Yes, I know that for such a setup, an aquarium of at least 300 liters is needed. To start, you can limit yourself to a couple of clownfish, an anemone, and shrimp. But overall, I really want a yellow tang and a butterflyfish; I just love these fish.
Kevin
I have such a set (+ fox, - winged one) for 600 liters.
Chad231
From 250-300 liters, a yellow tang, and any surgeonfish, especially a butterflyfish. A butterflyfish will also eat ocellaris clownfish. For your volume of up to 100 liters, only a pair of clownfish remain, and you can add 2-3 small ones.
Jeremy8404
No ... why?
A name guarantees quality and reliability, but you have to pay for it.
Nameless products require a long search and reading opinions from people you trust, or checking through your own experience.
And the quality of nameless products is uneven. This batch is great, this one is complete trash.
1000%
Jeffrey496
It's iron, but there are no problems with it; I have the same one. The return won't be enough unless you do some tricky "exhaust" on several points, but then the L30 won't be sufficient. A return and 1-2 weak streams are just right; the 101st San-San is already too much. I clean and wash mine every three months (alternating between L30 and Hudor Compact 1000).
Rodney3101
Has someone bought something in this store?
Eric8832
Please advise what essential equipment is necessary to have after setting up an aquarium, for example, a nano-reef of 80 liters. This includes mandatory tests, possibly measuring devices, coral trays, etc. Recommendations for specific manufacturers would be very helpful. A calcium reactor is not planned. Thank you.
Bridget
The most important thing is to have osmosis and salt. Everything else is not very important.
Brandon9634
Osmosis is there) Which salt is considered good on the market?) I haven't studied this issue yet, please help). Well, if it comes to corals, they will need to be fed, especially if there will be SPS someday. I would like to know in advance what supplements are essential to have, if that's even a valid question) I repeat, there will be no calcium reactor.
Kathryn514
Relying solely on osmosis and salt will be expensive. You also need important trace elements to compensate for their deficiency. For example, if you have enough calcium and magnesium, but strontium levels have dropped, what should you do? Replace it? That would be too cumbersome and costly in the end. It's easier to add a ready-made trace element! So this should also be taken into account.
P.S. Many people use Tetra salt (not an advertisement). I and many other marine aquarium enthusiasts use it. Everything works fine. This has been tested through experience. I haven't used any other brands yet, but there hasn't been a need for it.
Diana7891
What MEs are you adding?
Mitchell7972
Of course, what’s the problem with testing the water for compliance with the standards of over 60 trace elements every 3 days? I just don’t understand why buy salt with this approach?
For example, I have never measured strontium and I don’t worry about it. Balling and water changes solve the issue.
Michele9664
Tests for 60 ME??? Just name at least half of them.
Selena4467
Water changes are necessary, but in the case of my aquarium, they are minimal! In 1.5 years, I have changed only about 50 liters of water, and once I gave 150 liters directly from the aquarium to a friend for setting up. All the corals and living creatures are doing fine. Even the Manifera is feeling great. The thing is that adding "salt without salt" raises the readings of the salinity meter or refractometer, but in reality, they may be lower (I mean the amount of NaCl).
Collin
Different... what can I say? But there is also a "ready-made" balling method and a trace from JBL. After all, they didn't come up with it for nothing. Or could they have just done substitutes like in freshwater? (this is for , )
Jessica8898
Can you elaborate on this? I don't understand how salinity can increase with the addition of salt without salt if there is no NaCl present. And how can we measure true salinity then?
Rebecca1419
I just prepared a salt solution without salt (8 tablespoons in 3 liters of water). The salinity according to the refractometer is 1.003.
Larry
Do not confuse table salt with salt. The concept of salt includes not only sodium chloride but also other salts (carbonates, bicarbonates, phosphates, etc.). We measure ALL salts with a hydrometer or refractometer, not just sodium chloride. The main salts in seawater are sodium chloride, calcium bicarbonate, and magnesium bicarbonate. In "salt without salt," they are absent; there are only trace elements, which is why the reading is 1.003. If you want to measure sodium specifically, you need a sodium test, not a hydrometer.
Adrienne
That's exactly what I meant.
Eric5208
Balancing, introducing trace elements, and substitutions are all different things pursuing different goals... but you end up with some kind of mess :-/
Tina
Absolutely right! And also! The main thing is that this "mash," in your opinion, works great. And everything is fine with me, or rather in my aquarium. That's what I need. The living creatures feel great! The corals are reproducing well. And there's a big savings on salt. P.S. THE SEA IS NOT A FRESHWATER AQUARIUM!!!! Here, the approach to everything is completely different.
