I measured the nitrates - 80 ppm. I'm doing water changes.
Yolanda
Nitrate is not measured in ppm. There is not enough calcium. Wait a couple of days, I think they will recover. Try turning off the MG.
Earl
Why is it not measured? 80 mg/L = 80 ppm
Jacob4800
80 mg/L is a lot, but it's not scary for soft corals; they will absorb it all in a couple of weeks and increase their body volume. Just high nitrates can cause a bloom of lower organisms in an unstable system, which is scary and not good, but it won't be critical for LPS, and it will be even worse for SPS. I've personally tested this on my own corals.

I know for sure that nitrates are measured in mg/L, while ppm is the amount of dissolved salts.

This is the same (millionth part) - for aqueous solutions, the unit of measurement, i.e. 1=1.

What is the most suitable nitrate level for softness?
Cheryl
It's better to keep it between 20-40, but I've noticed that different types of softness can have varying tolerance levels for nitrate; some species don't tolerate it well at all, while many will do fine even at zero.
