Why not? What obstacles? The truth is, I'm currently focused on dividing the total volume of the aquarium into a fish tank and a SPS tank - I have a couple of ideas but I'm still working them out.
And what about the sand? It's a natural component of the Black Sea ecosystem - and it's alive - isn't the color white??? Well, you can sprinkle some argolite on top - although I find our sand more natural - not all parts of the reef have white sand - it's like what we have in the sea - we've swum there, we know.
Kristin
I used Black Sea sand for about 2 years, which was very beautiful; however, he sifted it to a uniform grain size before loading it into the display. Mostly, this sand consisted of crushed shell fragments from mussels. It performed excellently, but he eventually switched to aragonite sand. That's his choice, although the Black Sea sand is no worse at all.
Jasmine
Well, I don't know... People with equipment are struggling with the SPS guys. I'm afraid it won't work out for free.
As for the white sand, it's not just white, but it also has a certain size and shape, and it's more familiar to my eye. In general, no need for nonsense!
Jessica6754
Is there already a system scheme for the lipizdochka? Like how to handle drains, overflows, returns, flows, and what filtration systems to use?
Ryan7682
What a practice... I got from the live rocks... 750 USD for 340 display - quite rich indeed - but 800-1000 is not realistic for me personally, and I don't see the point. For the balance of the tropical sea, I might take a couple of kilos "from there," but I'm not even sure, to be honest.
My calculation for a new resilient system is based on a large mass-volume of live material (for free) - really live - actually from the sea into the glass and a smooth start with a lot of patience for maturation - not like I did, being an idiot, and after a month of intolerable mess, I introduced the first fish.
Joseph8842
They don't refuse... But we refused... Although not completely, and I repeat, we don't impose our terms of reference, everyone is like in Africa...
Nicole7122
I think it's worth paying attention to what corals they have and what we have, mainly. And just to the condition. I don't want to offend anyone in any way.
It all depends on what corals are planned... If it's an SPS tank, then it's one thing, if it's an LPS tank, then it's something completely different...
That's why I'm confident that systems with minimal equipment have every right to exist.
Patrick4439
Because I was thinking about something small, wide, and long, and I don't need to complicate my life with all this high stuff.
No, I haven't changed my mind - but only as decorations and nothing more - if I can't create what I envision with J.K. (living stones), then I'll implement it as decor.
Well, I didn't suggest you change the sand, did I? Right? You like white - and I like purple.
I think so too, and I didn't say that without technology and equipment, a pump or stream is technology and equipment, and lighting too - where would we be without that?
Joseph2576
KR will definitely not be in my life - just like the person I bought it from. I don't like it... and the whole system of water acidification and the games with KH and the one who makes them I dislike even more.
Michelle1505
By the way, it's a very balanced decision considering the light output, and the illusion of depth and spatial perspective due to the 70 cm width is cool, really cool.
James8887
Is it really that much of a hassle with it? I'm thinking about getting one to keep my Ca and Mg levels in check... I'm tired of constantly adding and measuring... And when I'm not around, it's a complete disaster.
What do you think about maintaining balance without it? Do you think live rocks and live rock fragments will be enough to support a struggling system with corals?
What do you think I should do here?
Jacqueline5976
I don't think this is a big problem...
I'll give an example of one topic, namely a large and very beautiful aquarium.
Beginning:
And continuation:
I think you will also find it very interesting to read.
Sandra7004
San, by the time you figure out how to set up each specific KR, you won't just be exhausted—you might even start drinking and smoking.
AF - AF - AF + baling + salt without salt for maintenance if AF power is insufficient - AF-AF not only conducts de-nitrification activities but also saturation of ME, and importantly, not in acidified CO2 water.
Cheryl
So that's what I actually think.
Cynthia6578
Well, regarding drinking and smoking, that's not a problem, but I don't want to fight. As for balling, I don't want to do it for now—I'm heavily tied to solutions... as for me... It's almost clear with AF, but not completely yet... I found a photo regarding the height and depth of the aquarium.
Matthew
This aquarium will already need diving equipment to place a coral on the bottom (just kidding).
Andrew419
Aha, and where did you find it, who is depicted in the photo, the sly Chinese man? An aquarium with nothing in it, or is it just an optical illusion? What's under the aquarium, in the basement, can we take a look?
Tami
Yes, probably the cleverest Thai. I posted the topic—there are detailed photos (it's clear without text) showing what happened and how it was launched... I related this photo to the topic of light and the depth of penetration.
On this page, there is a close-up photo from A to Z. Message 5009.
Thomas5021
No, it's not a joke, practically. In the photo in the thread, you can see how they assembled it: with a mask and a tube.
Tricia7885
It will be interesting to observe the development of your second sea, especially if the aquarium is divided into a fish section and a reef section. Are you designing a refrigerator in your system?
Melissa
Yekhani babai flipped through who knows how many pages, but he didn't see any regeneration devices, except for an aquarium with live gray sea sand. Do they pump water directly from the sea or what?
Todd
In message 5009, there is a photo of the entire aquarium... As for how it was assembled, you need to start scrolling from the very beginning of the topic... Actually, the very beginning with the equipment, I also shared this link.
In message 96, there is a diagram... Overall, the description of everything is very detailed in this topic.
Brandon4517
Thank you for the tip. Sorry, right, now I remember, this report has already been done, it just slipped my mind, behind the "curtain of events." Well, these guys manage to do things that are cooler than what we do, especially since they live, so to speak, just a few steps away from all this good stuff... We can't live like that.
Kathy
I would say it's different here... They live close to the sea-ocean and corals, and of course, prices for that are cheaper, but for everything else, prices are either the same or higher... The question is in the approach! Look, no matter how you turn it, the most beautiful aquariums have a decent amount of equipment, they take your breath away... When I saw this aquarium, I was drooling.
Lee425
The idea is actually not bad, but it will be at the expense of the dream "for the fish to swim far away."
No, I never thought so - I am for the general conditioning of the entire living space rather than separate aquariums - it just seems more logical, cheaper, and simpler.
Antonio
There are enough examples with optimal setups of equipment, and it's not about the equipment, but about the brains of the person who built the aquarium and maintains it. Should I throw you some links where you'll be amazed by aquariums built with just a few pieces of equipment? Or do you think that a lot of equipment means a lot of pretty lights and displays?
Nancy758
No, I didn't say that. I'm currently only reasonably okay with the skimmer, UV, and theoretically the calcium reactor. If you can, it would be interesting to see SPS corals in a tank, for example... P.S. This is not a debate. I said it depends on what you're aiming for and what kind of aquarium... There are soft coral tanks that are incredibly beautiful! I'm just saying that achieving such purity and colors with coral growth is difficult without equipment.
Michelle9986
Sure, just go to the same reef center or the gray one and take a look. What does a skimmer or gray have to do with a SPS keeper? It's not a critical device for that - but for a mixed reef with Hipatus, for example - if you feed it well, it can really mess things up...
And I really don't understand what I have to do with this personally?
Wendy8540
Well, as always, we started off well and ended up as usual. I actually brought up this aquarium as an example when we talked about light and whether it's difficult to illuminate 60, 70, or 80 cm... It seemed to me that you can take a lot of useful information from there regarding design; there are tons of sketches showing how everything will be done and why... P.S. As I understand it, you will still have a mixed reef with a hapatus, and possibly not just one.
Frank7213
I unequivocally state that there is a significant difference in the power of the chandelier and the light source needed to illuminate 50-60-70-80 cm - it's elementary, Watson.
My task is to create a resilient, low-maintenance marine aquarium that my wife and I will like.
Do not suggest Chinese two-meter aquariums with a budget of 20k.
Now tell me that I was wrong:
Ryan2281
So that's why I asked you about three times what you plan to do in the aquarium.
I'm interested in the process if you don't use equipment and minimize it...
I can understand the soft corals in the sulfur and A.F., but when there are a lot of SPS, LPS, soft corals, and fish, I can't understand how just rocks and sand will manage, and A.F... Or if the focus is entirely on SPS...
Patricia1746
What if it’s like this: there are plenty of techniques, but the corals and the aquarium itself are subpar? We’ve seen this, and not just once. There’s also the approach that Sanya talks about—think along the lines of: rely on the technique, but don’t slack off yourself. That’s why various traces, food additives, and proper solutions for water quality, biology, and stability according to M.E. were invented. Even good lighting can turn out to be ineffective. It’s necessary to work hard in this direction.
David7773
I seem to have repeatedly outlined my plans - a fish tank and a reef - I definitely don't plan to have a pure SPS tank - I don't like them - it's personal - like with white sand.
But I'm just thinking about whether to divide the total volume or not - I have a brilliant idea regarding this - but the width of the aquarium becomes one meter.
Anne4851
And why didn't you mention the refugium with macrophytes and a strong substrate? It is also planned...
Crystal
Do you remember the song from the USSR times: "... and the deer are lu-uu-uchshe"?
Kevin3579
This is not made up by Sanya - it's a historical fact, read the history of the Scythians. NOT in the number of shells - bacteria. Look for stones from the sea. ....................... Take the pen from Nox, I don't know alternative options. Sampa - half or more than half of the aquarium. There can never be too much sampa.
Shelby3182
In this case, I was talking about what shell limestone consists of.
Limestone, which is predominantly made up of shells of marine animals and their fragments, is called shell limestone.
I had a pen from Nox, but I know alternative systems.
In terms of area, the sump will be at least the same as the aquarium - I will calculate the volume as I go.
Elizabeth1221
Here are 500 liters of sulfur only.
The guy is happy that he gave up the skimmer - he says the sponges and worms are doing well and the color of the corals has become richer.
Tanya
Another aquarium without a skimmer led me to the brothers Eugene Plotkin and Don Plotkin.
Christopher3770
Sanya, "500 liters on sulfur only," is that song that we still haven't heard to this day. How many more years do we need to go to understand and hear at least something... It's interesting that energy-saving lamps are already being used on sulfur... It turns out people are already getting results with them; in short, we should have learned from them a long time ago instead of resting on our laurels...
Brandon4517
Well, I heard it. Although when gathering the sea, I brought up the topic - everyone just fell silent, so I ended up collecting crap for a lot of money that, along with the foam, messes up everything useful and necessary, and it cost a lot...
The Belarusian brothers have gone further than us a long time ago - good job - now I'm tightly settled on their forum akva.by. The Belarusian brothers are so tough that they tested gas concrete as S.R.C. (dry reef stones) - well done!!!
Ryan1989
The Chinese tank industry has started producing shells for mini tanks - not cheap but effective. I found a link from our Belarusian brothers.
I thought, why not throw some shells into that ditch?
Debra
The reef, as I understood, is completely "Algae" - an algae guy and a gray dot.
I sat like a fool and couldn't grasp for half the video that some guy was planning to build something smart from a bucket.
For the particularly patient, 13 minutes in, you'll understand how tough guys, the algae guys, build.
Jeffery7866
What do you think of a 2x1x0.55 aquarium divided into two volumes along the long side of 2 meters? That is, in one tank there are two aquariums - a fish tank and a coral tank.
There is a central shaft and an overflow on each side.
So, on one side, there are fish swimming, and on the other side, there is a mixed reef.
Ronald
Oh, what do you think about the option where you send a sketch of the room where you plan the reef and the dimensions, and then anyone who is willing can send you a project with a possible sketch for review or discussion?
Kevin262
He has an aquarium under maintenance. There is a skimmer, and he does a 20% water change every two weeks with natural ocean water. The algae eater didn't help much, so he started adding chemicals to combat phosphates. In the end, he managed to deal with the filamentous algae, but it's unclear what helped more.
Jesse
I don't know, imagine that someday you'll come back to the equipment, but already for your volume? What if, but there's no space... I think such aquarium glass will cost a pretty penny, maybe find out about acrylic too??? By the way, do you want everything to be glass? Or just the visible side? That's also a way to save...
Omar3497
What?! The cabinet will shrink by half? Or does the float take up a lot of space? At the start, I plan to buy some used one for the mini as a backup - then I'll give it to my neighbor.
There's a lot of negativity - polishing forever. And the aquarium will just turn out to be too long, and the load isn't big - that's why I'm also thinking about a not very tall one.
It turns out I can see through it (for now) - what are the other sides sewn with? San - I haven't heard about another option.
Crystal4879
I know that Leo Mironov has done it this way, as if the aquarium is built into the wall... roughly speaking, three walls are embedded in concrete and covered with something, while the viewing glass... again, it all depends on the architecture + I saw such a solution at the Reef Central... And they say acrylic is not so bad for tanks...
David
Sanya, it would be better if the fish tank is separate from the reef. The aquariums shouldn't depend on each other. The fish, of course, don't care, but the reef does. Think it over well. It's better to make a 3-meter reef and not complicate things for yourself. You can set up the fish tank somewhere else later, like in the hallway, for example.
Christopher
Without fish, they'll finish me off even faster.
Julie4738
You will make the fish tank like a tunnel in large marine aquariums... for example, in the bedroom. And no one said that you can't have fish in the reef...
Travis572
For example, I love Tridacna, but I never got to see Helmon because of that.
Rita
I also have a plan - you might think I'm an idiot. I will cultivate active bio-filtration - either with a large colony of mussels or oysters - they have plenty of food - I've tested it myself - well, if there are fish, that's one condition, and preferably a lot of scavengers like Hipatus.
Veronica
I don't think it's a priori... when I had it, I didn't touch either fan worms or aiptasia... not even the biggest ones...
Martin3206
I think a lottery is not appropriate here. My Lorik was the most peaceful creature, it didn't touch corals or crustaceans, and it fed only once a day on what grew in the aquarium.
Andrew419
With living beings, it's all a lottery. Look, I got a Labrador—when he was a puppy, everyone thought he was phlegmatic, but now he's like the one from "Marley and Me." One will trample on what he naturally shouldn't, while the other won't... I'm certainly a fan of this thing, but demolishing two floors of a house for a girl seems a bit unreasonable.
Larry
Brothers!!! Does anyone have a link to "SAMP next to or behind the aquarium at one level"?
Brian7092
Sanya, this is a general view of the aquarium, in the process of finishing the cladding, so don't pay attention to the unfinished parts. On the side is the refugium, at the same level as the aquarium, water flows into the refugium through an overflow, its suction side is visible to the left of the stream, and there is also the PC, which is currently functioning as an O2 reactor.
Johnny
The width is no longer coming out?
Sarah
Sanya, is this the final version? As far as I remember, we were talking about 3 meters. What do you think about placing the algae tank?
Jason
Yes, Sergey, the width is a problematic part - 40 cm. This includes the overhang over the bottom, in clean terms it's 30 cm, since the wall thickness is 40 cm.
I think I can extend it to 50 cm - still need to add extra supports anyway. If I make it 50, it will probably be close to ideal.
For now, I'm really worried about how to separate it for the algae scrubber?
Brothers, is there nothing that can be glued in place of glass in aquariums? I only have one piece of glass for viewing.
Jeffrey
Calm down, Tolya!!! - we were talking about 1000-800 liters and 2-3 meters, and it will happen, but I'm not earning like I was a year ago, and this thing is uncertain in terms of how long it will take - and here I am, whoosh, almost 400 liters, all on alternative, and honestly, it will be a bomb in terms of kitchen interior, and I'm sitting next to my fish, I can even show them on Skype - just turned the shovel a bit and the camera picks it up.
Laura4892
It's hard to glue glass to something else - it will be unreliable. What is it about the glass that doesn't suit you? All other materials are more expensive. Change the connector to a wider one.
Matthew
Sanya, take another careful look at the photo in the link. There you will see that the display hangs over the rest of the structure by 7 cm, it was designed that way back when the shikhvaner was in that place... the aquarium has been working for 11 years on a 10mm glass base...
Joe
I thought I could save some money, but since I hadn't heard of any options other than concrete, I decided to ask again.
P.S. The insulation doesn't matter here - everything will go over it - I don't want to stick it out of the window - that wouldn't be according to feng shui.
Richard2180
You'll have to if you want a bigger aquarium...
Larry
I still have the sold aquarium hanging over the cabinet - it's not about the design of the structure, but about the feng shui.
But I'm leaning towards 50 cm for now or 40... not sure, in short.
Nicole263
My kitchen table is an extension of the countertop. You'll still need space for aquarium stuff, so you can try to kill two birds with one stone. And to make it more feng shui, consider a panoramic (curved) front glass; then the side walls can be made 30-40 cm.
Michelle5859
Damn, can you help with the samp on the side under the algae and the live rocks (J.K.) to come up with something to take up less length in the aquarium?
Dennis
Ah, it's just like a parallel option to the main one... then everything is great.
Angela6489
Yes - that's the idea!!! But ordering bending and I won't glue it myself... for now, the plan is not to waste money.
Antonio
So, Sanya, the performance of SAMP depends on the volume. If you want a high-performance SAMP, make it larger. Haven't you looked towards the refugium?
Kenneth7331
Well, make a trapezoid at a 45-degree angle. You can definitely glue it yourself.
Courtney4094
This is the foundation and refinement of my knowledge in AF, and from there, I can have ready material for a big ocean... slowly and steadily, but most importantly, thoughtfully - otherwise, I'll end up gathering a ton of junk again, I know myself - money will come, and I'll launch in a week.
Jessica5348
Nooo, that's definitely not it. It will look like an aquarium sticking out of the window - that will be the first impression.
John3335
What will you produce in Samp??? Cold milk like Matroskin?
I'm only interested in the seaweed in Samp - I've already experienced all the bubbling wonder machines... the volume was said to be 390 liters.
Andrea6761
What if: if it's scary to arm the refugium from the side in terms of length overconsumption, climb up. Build a general structure above the display based on the principle: an algae scrubber the size of an AF, with a Durso drain on the aerator's flute, and it won't take up much space and will be beneficial...
Stephanie4990
Tolya, this window - a window to the garden - it also lets light into the kitchen - and I fought for its 50 cm height.
Erica
I will go by this kind of principle - approximately. I will just think through the algae tank - there will be one body with the aquarium together.
Gabrielle5053
So, to do this a couple of centimeters higher from the surface of the lighting device, the view of the Alabai in "the wild" won't be disturbed, or am I wrong?
Kayla7655
And my principle in exile, what is it like?
Amy5468
From the experience of narrow and long aquariums:
I have an aquarium measuring 1300x300x400 (LxWxH). It is currently disassembled and is intended for a macrophyte tank.
Despite its small physical volume, it appears large.
The width of the aquarium is difficult to determine when looking through the front glass; it always seems larger than it is.
By the way, if you make a kind of table for the aquarium with an overhang instead of a flat surface, you can actually fit a narrow but long sump underneath.
John3187
A narrow but long samp can be fitted in place of the removed battery.
Curtis
Well, not bad. You can make two, on both sides for symmetry. Then you can whip up a trapezoid; the side parts will be invisible anyway, so you can make their width smaller.
Kathleen
Well, that's what I'm talking about - how much to clear from 195 for this section?
Seryoga )))) there is a table there now, but it's lower than the countertop - a large oak oval one - but I definitely won't put the sink on it =)))))
Barbara8192
I also don't plan to remove the radiator - I know how to separate its heat flow from the aquarium - I can slightly restrict it, but not remove it completely - I'm sitting there and warming myself by it ))))))) I don't have and won't have underfloor heating - I'm against it.
Joyce
I have 14. It can be done with 12. The minimum is 10.
Collin
Sanya, the main problem is with the lighting. For algae to grow well, good light is needed (I have 120 watts, but that might be a bit much). It's difficult to illuminate a small area, although in your case there will be side lighting as well. From the lighting perspective, I would make two compartments of 10 cm each. Then we place the PLS on top, and the side lighting will cover the 10 cm.
Bryan1851
Um... It seems like you wanted to save some money, but it turns out you'll spend twice as much and waste a lot of time... +1 aquarium +1 light + stones + living creatures + some repairs in the kitchen, etc... I had an aquarium that was 40 cm wide - it's very inconvenient... And blocking half the window is also not good feng shui... Why do you need it?
If you have this table as a workspace, then just put a Nemo there, something like that, and relax. If you’re thinking about a 3-meter aquarium, then work towards that, and if it’s not enough, you can always do something in the window later... That way, you'll save money and not waste time...
Kristin
It will also be nice for us to see the aquarium that is 3 meters long.
Stacey4437
I have a 25W energy-saving bulb under a halogen light in a splash-proof fixture - it was blowing nicely on the heteromorph - I got tired of thinning it out - the plastic grew to 25 cm - there was sand and stones at the bottom.
Zoe7451
Well, I'm saying that maybe I have a bit too much, since I also have a sample of 200 liters.
Thomas
Either approve or not - even with an aquarium width of 40 cm - I will save 15 cm - 40x15=600 sq. cm - yes, I will illuminate it with a powerful lamp - a thickness of 25 cm will definitely be fine - seems like it's okay for 390 liters?! The bottom will have the old scheme - live rocks.
But now I am plagued by vague doubts - why do I need an overflow in this design - a grid and over the top? To collect film? This problem has long been solved by directing the flow upwards and creating ripples on the surface!!!
Just a hole with a grid slightly below the water surface - but no waterfalls or overflows???!!!! Please critique.
Kimberly2102
And all 200 in Khetamorph?
Erin
Well, the algae collector is smaller, but there are a couple of buckets of heteromorphs there.
Rachael
We will have to wait a long time - while we enjoy 2 meters and the alternative system.
Sara
When it is overgrown, or rather when it is compacted and poorly aerated, I noticed the appearance of all sorts of muck - cyanobacteria, for example, it happened once - no matter how unpleasant... and immediately recalled the words of the same Stepanov - by periodically thinning the algae, we reduce nitrogen... p. 33
Patricia
Sanya, the main expenses are ЖК (living stones). The Black Sea ЖК (living stones) have been used for a long time and quite well, and you have the sea nearby.
David953
And what did I write in the first post?! There is also live sand there. So it's not a problem for me to collect J.K. (live stones) that I need.
Martha
I don't know, at my dacha it's like that, the pump is directed upwards and the little backpack with the waterfall doesn't remove the film...
Courtney
San, what's the point? I probably don't understand something...
Julie
I don't understand what's going on or if someone is confused due to the heat - my last post is missing, but Sanya quoted it?! Did I offend someone again or break the forum rules? Or what?
I repeat the question - instead of making a transfer, just use the openings to balance the transition to an equal-level compartment in the form of an algae tank and forget about the film - it breaks anyway by directing the stream upwards and creating ripples on the surface - but it guarantees complete silence of the device.
Joseph1346
Sanya, everything is unchanged, no one has cleaned up the posts in this thread at all.
Hunter1471
It is certainly possible to balance the transition this way; it's just that my refugium was originally designed separately from the display, and I installed it much later than the display itself, which is why I had to set up the overflow. You advocate for a different solution, but this solution is also absolutely correct.
Anthony
Offtopic, it's probably hot in Odessa, your post number 104.
Michelle9986
Lesha, I'm sorry - I'm a jerk here - I overlooked where Sanya quoted me - I couldn't find the post even after reviewing three pages. It was really around +40 today, and Seryoga came from Sumy to pick up the remnants of the aquarium - he ran around and now his back won't straighten - why is everything so heavy.
Tolya, so I'm not doing the overflow after all - among freshwater fish, this is proudly called "bio-cell," so it's also familiar to us - how else to call an algae eater if not a bio-cell.
Alicia5489
I request constructive criticism of this type of overflow - without a pipe and grid. Do not mention the film on the surface.
The aquarium is long and narrow - 195x50x45 - this is the sump on the side combined with the entire aquarium.
John
Sanya, where the algae will be, there will also be coral rubble; they will be on it. What layer of rubble do you think to lay in the compartment?
David953
Here’s a good thought for the catch - it will be necessary to glue a rib 10 cm high to the bottom - and to fill it with rubble - the rib is meant to prevent anything from getting into the compartment with the pump. Or should we not glue the rib and just use larger stones?
Jessica
It is necessary to install a plate with half-inch holes instead of a rib where the water will exit from the bio compartment to the pump compartment. This will allow for free passage of water while preventing debris from entering the pump compartment. Debris can be placed in both large and smaller sizes; I used pieces ranging from 3x5 to 5x7 cm. There are also fragments as small as 2 cm.
Jennifer
With a water level difference of 2-3 cm, there is absolutely no noise from the water. In the display aquarium, the film will be removed by the stream, but what about the algae tank? It is better to overflow water over the partition from the top with a difference of 2 cm.
Alyssa1438
There is a constant and intense flow - I have never seen a film in a simple sump in an algae tank.
What’s better? I just can’t understand what’s better? Besides the film, I don’t see the need to complicate such an overflow with a level-equal system - that is, a side sump.
Chelsea
It can be done this way too - it's not essential.
James5103
Although, if you make a 4 cm gap for water to exit the biochamber into the pump compartment, you can place a piece that won't fit into the pump compartment by its dimensions. The thing is, if there is a rib or some other obstacle at the exit, detritus may accumulate over time in that spot, which is not very good. What do you think, Sanya?
Jasmine
I am not defending any particular idea of mine - I just wonder if someone could point out a specific advantage of classical overflow over this???? Then I won't regret what I've done later.
Joshua8425
Well, if the waterfall and the sound of water are "mesmerizing," and it pulls the film into the sump... Although it can be done in a way that it works quietly. For example, I don't have any film, just like there isn't that kind of overflow; it's simply eaten away by the bubbles from the air filter, which, by the way, are its worst enemies. Where there are waves and bubbles on the surface, the film has no chance of staying on the surface of the water for long.
Cassandra1840
I'm not captivated by this Tolya. I've played enough with the level in the mine - I still couldn't achieve consistency - even though everything was connected through a stabilizer - a very good stabilizer - an expensive stabilizer.
The fight with J.K. (living stones) didn't inspire me to throw myself into it.
So, we accept this overflow!!!
Ashley5975
Sanya, how are you going to deal with the noise of the water that will be flowing out of the AF? It will definitely gurgle a bit.
Russell8484
I have three options in my head, but I can't figure them out yet - the pressure isn't too overwhelming - and the inadequacy of the classic overflow in my case - when the sump is at the bottom - it just can't be done without it - and for me, it will just be a waterfall plus to the AF - but it won't be of any use - only the grid gets overgrown and the water level creeps up.
Actually, I will also cover the holes with round grates - they will need to be cleaned too.
Kenneth7210
San, what do you actually plan to do in this aquarium?
Crystal
Offtopic, what is the diameter of your drain? How many taps are on the drain? And what pump is used for the return? Are there taps on the return?
Brandon9634
For now, I plan to keep a moderate number of fish of a certain type for me, and softness - I'll let a couple of hard ones go and see what happens.
Melissa
Off-topic. Who is this question for?
Richard2180
Why? Why spread yourself thin on other aquariums when you have a magnificent project?
Kevin8087

Amy9618
So it has to be...
I've said why multiple times - what more do you want???
Mark9853
I have been following your first topic about the launch very closely, and as a beginner, I have learned a lot. Your writing style (correctly placing emphasis) is unmatched! You have touched on an important topic again, and what is very important is that you are trying to bring it to life. I am also going to launch 2 aquariums at a minimum without a sump (though with a skimmer) of 650 liters and 1350 liters, and I am happy to minimize the system from all those hissing bubbling machines. I don't create my own topics—questions periodically arise in your topic, and professionals provide good answers. I wish you luck and health for your future aquarium. You will definitely succeed.
Emily3506
Thank you, brother!!!
Do you know what they say about us?
"Clinical idiots should stick together."
But it's people like us who drive progress.
I don't deny the skimmer at all - if I can get started before the cold sets in, I'll buy a minimum of 100 liters until the AF matures and the dead weight is gone.
And according to my now deep convictions - if you do use a skimmer, it should be at 25% of the system volume - the rest should be neutralized by natural processes.
Angela
Off-topic, Sanya, but shouldn't someone be at the top of this list of "clinical idiots"? Put me first, especially since so many people have already been "misled" by these so-called "alternatives"....
Joseph2576
Offtopic You are the Banner Bearer for me in our group
Now I will announce some heresy - I'm gluing an aquarium 1950x50x40 - two edges and a brace = 8 mm glass, bottom = 10 mm.
Catherine
Unfortunately, there is no size 8 in stock - everything will be from size 10.
Susan9583
Yes, respect and admiration for Anatoly. Six months ago, I created a topic, and he guided me in the right direction. He explained that with a reasonable approach to launching and maintaining an aquarium, it is possible to have it without significant hassle and expenses on various gadgets. Before that, I was held back by the thought that everything in this field was very complicated. Of course, I will need to learn and learn again (thankfully, there are plenty of experienced people) and do everything wisely, smoothly, and without sudden movements. By the way, I will be making a planted tank 3000x250x200 on top of the aquarium (3 meters - 150 liters of acrylic glass) and using gravity flow into the tank.
Alyssa6727
It will be stronger.)))
Sarah7284
Wow!!!! Great idea!!!! Start the topic - I've been thinking about it a bit + combine it with a powerful AF - but I'm struggling with the lighting - start the topic and let's brainstorm together and come up with something. I'm sure Tolya will support us and throw in some suggestions.
Andrea8397
From ten it's just right, after all the sizes are solid... So don't be upset, everything is very good. Well, for the technical section, of course, a different glass will do, I think that's not a problem for you.
Jacob7201
A screed is not needed from the 10 - see pages 12-13 of tables 1-2-3, and a couple of other enemy software confirm this.
Bonnie
Yes, this will be a very serious macroalgae setup, and that's great. The best option, to avoid any incidents, is to place it on a special stand, definitely not on the aquarium. Although I have my AFO on the edge of the aquarium, that was planned from the very beginning, which is why the edge was reinforced twice. Essentially, this long and powerful device rests on a 20-gallon tank.
Bethany
Yes, we also have enthusiasts of marine aquaristics on our forum who have set up aquariums without braces and even without ribs, and I agree with them, it's not necessary, but here, something always reminds me of "The Twelve Chairs," where a guy tortured by narzan says: YOU CAN!!! But money upfront! So it's the same here. You can, but it's still better to install...
Kevin8087
Thank you! I will ask for the author's permission here and probably create my own topic. I have a 15-gallon tank and 6 ties for 3 meters + ribs - will it hold if I place a plant filter along the entire length? I just want it above the aquarium and not behind on the wall (in case it leaks, and it's easier to maintain)? And one more question... I know this has been discussed many times, but I have a new Fluval FX5 that is sitting idle - should I throw out all the sponges and fill it with large coral gravel 1-2 cm or rubble, and place the water intake a couple of centimeters from the surface (if it leaks, it will pump out a little) or should I just get rid of it too... minimalism is minimalism. Thank you!
Kayla7655
It should hold up; the stress is mainly on the edge of the 15mm glass. Nevertheless, see for yourself, I would still place it on a shelf. As for the Fluval, whether it will leak or not, I wouldn't worry about it and would sell it to a freshwater aquarium enthusiast.
Randy
Thank you! I will do that with the Fluval.
Susan1358
It will hold up - you can even do a lezginka on top of it - it's all about how I assembled the cabinet from furniture board (beech) - and how everyone told me that no one does it this way except for Americans and that it would fall apart in three days - however, I didn't sell the cabinet and it didn't fall apart in 1.5 years and showed no signs of it, and only when I got off it - I rode on it - painted the ceilings.
Nicole
I read in your thread that you want to include mussels in the filtration system... I searched online and indeed found excellent filters for the sea and ocean, but I couldn't find a proper answer regarding aquariums. What do the experts think... will they survive if not one or two, but around 1-2 kg? What should they be fed? Or is this a utopia in an aquarium? It would be great to put them in a planted tank under the plants—let them filter.
Cassandra1840
Great question! I have an idea to include not only Midis in the samp but also Oysters under Khetamorph.
Amy5070
P.S. I released the oysters at the start when the thread was raging - the upper shells of the oysters were covered like grass on a lawn, and the sand around them was always perfectly clean.
Nicole2404
Sanya, if the oysters have shown an example of survival, then we probably need to work with them. Black Sea mussels usually don't live long in a tropical reef aquarium, apparently due to the high salinity for this species.
Amanda5586
I found interesting information about Media and Oysters.
Rebecca
Gradual salting is undoubtedly better than immediately at 35 per mille. Nevertheless, experiments with Black Sea fauna without prior adaptation have also shown positive results, which can be confirmed by several of our Zaporizhzhia sailors who are currently successfully keeping Black Sea animals in their marine aquariums. However, I am fully in favor of the practice of gradual adaptation; it is a sensible approach. This is because no one can be insured against unexpected losses during such a process.
Sherri1320
Good day. When did you buy the oysters at METRO - were they sitting there in salty water? For some reason, I thought they put them all in fresh water. Do they really salt the water?
Holly
It's not that salty... I dipped my finger in on purpose and licked the freshwater - they just cool it down.
You should take oysters that are closed - it's a sign that they're still alive - when they die, the muscle that controls the shells relaxes and the shell opens.
So I'm saying - can you imagine the resilience potential of oysters??? By the time they are caught, transported, and end up in the Metro, they are bouncing around for months... I'm telling you - it's amazing!!!
Stacy6866
It takes about 50 days for adaptation if after 3 days... it seems to be normal - it should work out. However, I need to find out where the oysters are from - maybe adaptation isn't necessary.
Monica
Excerpt from the forum (author Lev Mironov):
I tried. I bought oysters at the supermarket, and after placing them in the aquarium, they opened up and lived. But only for a relatively short time. About two months. They die due to two factors.
1. Temperature. They need cold water, not 25 degrees or higher.
2. Lack of sufficient food. They are filter feeders that require plankton in large quantities.
Laura3615
Regarding the skimmer, I agree... it's probably the biggest oyster in the system (and expensive).
As for the adaptation, I calculated it to be about 50 days if I'm translating the Black Sea (Chornomorsky) to the reef... if I didn't mess it up, of course.
Judy
Offtopic Revolution in marine aquaristics. Throw away all skimmers and start with salt.
Monica
Well, maybe I exaggerated with 50 degrees - I just said that off the cuff - everywhere it mentions a gradual salting of 1-1.5 degrees per day. But I actually have no rush - I will definitely start in about two months before the first living creatures.
Jill9137
What does this have to do with it??? Or are you not aware of systems without skimmers???
Marie5735
Offtopic Yes, I'm aware, but is this course suitable for everyone? Many people have such systems packed with so much that MIG takes a break, but there's no harmony.
Adrienne
So we, Lesha, are talking about a specific alternative system and some interesting related questions - I immediately stated that I am not going to "expose" or "accuse" anyone, and we gathered here a couple of like-minded people to discuss the bright future - which may or may not happen - but we will see it all through my example - it's interesting, isn't it?
Lynn4242
and I will support the experience - the first salting will be in a week.
Jennifer5371
I agree. Off-topic. The main thing is that they understand it correctly and take what is needed and necessary, not like it was with me, explaining to one person for a month and a half what salt is, what trace elements to use, and what water to use, explaining it every day for an hour, he understood, yes. Two months later, he calls, and to my surprise, I find out he’s using salt from the pharmacy, water from a spring, and trace elements almost from the store, our garden. He thought (with two higher education degrees in medicine) and decided on his own.
Maria
Off-topic
This is a clinical case for Lesha. I often encounter similar situations regarding other issues - I explain, I get frustrated - and for free - out of love for the craft and the idea - and in the end, the person does everything wrong and, importantly, everything in reverse - that's why I stopped doing it - until I really feel that the person is interested and, most importantly, understands.
Most often, it's easy to identify superficial why-askers - they ask a bunch of questions and, without listening to the answer to the first one, ask the second and third.
Timothy
It's a bit strange... Yesterday I replaced all the drain pipes (removed the sewer and installed normal Nibco 1" pipes). The Durso worked immediately; I just had to adjust the air intake valve a little. There are no stabilizers (although I plan to install a 7 kW unit for the whole apartment in the fall, as sometimes the voltage drops so much that the skimmer gurgles and the electronic ballasts shut off), but the level is stable. However, I have a pocket, not a shaft. Maybe it's more stable?
Scott8536
The final version of the aquarium has been sent for production - that is, Alik from Aqualife (Odessa) is gluing it - after all, even with their work, it turns out cheaper than if I were to learn and struggle myself.
And I still planned a proper overflow through a comb - I have determined its priority over just holes for water intake.
The rest of the structure remains unchanged.
John828
Besides the fittings, we also need the pipes. Well, we can't send them from Odessa, can we? I just bought them recently. And your fittings are just what I needed. Off-topic. We still don't have these pipes at Epicenter; I found them by chance in a water filter store.
Jacqueline6670
Here is the final version of the sample on the side.
Kristin
I would make the feed channel of minimal width, just enough for the pump to fit.
Luis3725
This compartment is 15x20 cm.
Emily
That's why I preferred the classic overflow:
- after all, it's a constant level in the display - in case something happens, the level in the sump will drop;
- the grates that would look like "holes" there would have a diameter of 42 mm. Such a crown would have to be purchased, and they are not cheap;
- with the grate, if it gets clogged with plant leaves or something else, there is a high chance of overflowing into the sump - the level in the display will only rise a couple of millimeters;
- there is never too much aeration;
Well, I've laid out my thoughts.
Denise
Sanya, I would do it this way, and there are many reasons for this; the algae collector won't pump out the water in case of anything, and the detritus will be retained.
Elizabeth1221
Lesha, do you mean the place where the red one is, we should glue another bulkhead there??? I’ve been thinking a lot about it - it seems we will go that way.
Ryan1989
I remembered what I was doubting about this partition... Lesh - leaving the pump dry is very bad - the heteromorph will just drop down with the level and won't dry out.
So, the detritus, yes-aaa, I had it everywhere in the first reef, including on the pump.
Andrew7823
Yes, another partition will hold back detritus and various organisms, and also, in any case, the algae will always be in the water. The partition is made to a height of about 3-4 cm below the main water level.
Jacob7201
Lesha - it's accepted - Thank you!!! Just not 3-4 cm from the main level - but about 20 cm from the bottom I'll tear it off - then the volume of the pressurization chamber will be large and all the stuff won't overflow.
Jeffrey6189
I was at METRO today - the oysters are kept in salty water (and I licked one... it's true what they say, a bad example is contagious) and I asked again - they said that lobsters and oysters (from France) are kept in special water with sea salt. They cost 34 each, the size of a palm.
Joseph1346
Congratulations on the start of the work to establish a new marine aquarium, and I wish you success in finding new solutions.
John3142
Where did I dip my palette? I swear it was fresh water - but the fact is they lived with me for a long and tedious time.
Susan
I think that in your METRO, like in the country, there is just a human factor and chaos... they threw it into the mess and whatever... the oysters don't complain.
Marie5735
I'm going to a new reef for oysters - I'll stick my finger in again, they get taken very quickly here - especially by the Chinese, who are in Odessa like in Beijing.
Sara
If anyone is flying to Turkey for vacation, order some Mediterranean mussels. They can be found on the floating piers. I had a few living for about six months. There are also plenty of snails under the stones. They lived well too; one almost made it to two years.
Katie4842
Turkey - Bosporus-Dardanelles - the biocenosis is similar to ours - just a bit more salt there - so it doesn't make sense - our mussels are "the same" - as a former sailor I know - in the sense of a sailor-sailor - a guy who put on a uniform at 14 years old )))))
John828
They are stalling me with the gluing of my glass aquarium... for another 8-9 days... while we will be exploring the local coastline for live rocks.
Christopher8654
I picked up the glass aquarium - it's part of a large project.
Hunter1471
Sanya, I see you have plenty of aquarists in your house.
Larry9400
Two more did not make it into the frame, and there are two more outside.
Kellie
Here is the design of the overflow-sump: a larger compartment for large biofilter media (live rocks) + Hetamorva + a very powerful LED lighting - a smaller compartment for pumps.
Sarah5423
That's how I imagined her.
Jacqueline5976
She thought it would be smaller, but my dream "the fish swims long and to its full length" seems to come true.
And it's strange - this one is somehow much heavier than the previous one, even though they are almost the same in volume, and the first one has a reinforced bottom, while this one does not.
Kevin262
Oh, this is not a pleasant task - peeling off silicone left by careless can sticklers - even the ginger cat has a "judging look" in the last photo of post 200 (who does it like that?).
Robert
The ribs were just glued yesterday - I came to pick them up and they are still working on it - I said I won't wait - load it up - I'll scrape it myself - there’s just one rib to touch up and a couple of joints - that’s what I’m going to do now.
Phyllis
Friends! It is necessary to darken part of the algae tank from the main volume - there is dark acrylic - how to attach it to the glass - with the same silicone?
Mark7376
I forgot to mention the glass aquarium - it cost me 2130.00. 195x40x51 10 mm. Akvalife-Odessa-Misha - naturally, Alik glued it - this time I like the aquarium more in terms of execution - all edges are polished - everything is precise and even, and you won't get hurt.
Alyssa1438
Why actually glue it? I inserted a piece of acrylic cut to size, leaned it against the glass, and the substrates will hold it in place with their mass; it won't fall, there's nowhere for it to go... There will be enough glue as it is.
Alicia5489
Sanya, I wouldn't use acrylic inside the aquarium and wouldn't glue anything at all; maybe I misunderstood something. In 3-4 months, everything will be overgrown with Carolina, and it will be cooler and more useful than any acrylic.
Heather6148
Alek, look at the aquarium - on the left there will be a plant tank - it’s on the side and there will be a very powerful LED shining there - and while it’s growing, it will shine 24 hours a day into the display - that’s what I want to dim.
Marie5735
Or should we really not put anything there and wait for it to grow back on its own? I'm also not very "for" any kind of inserts. But it will grow back unsightly... or will it still grow back unsightly between the acrylic and the glass?
Heather2018
The display side won't look nice - there won't be a solid background.
Or should we cover that side completely with stone - why bother?
Andrea6761
This is probably the best idea.
Cynthia
I think so too. It feels more natural that way.
Sara4035
Thank you, friends!!! I'm also leaning towards this - I will try this kalinkor, but there are some points - I will try to resolve them.
Emily
Check out this topic - There is a tint on the rear window. Most likely, there is also an answer regarding what was used for the tinting or painting...
Julia
If the self-adhesive film gets wet, will it peel off if applied to a dry surface? Has anyone tried it?
I bought a bunch of fittings for PVC 3/4" from Epicenter, and it cost... 46. - someone else is much better in this regard in terms of price.
Michelle5859
Stick the oracle onto the thin glass to size, leaving about 0.5 cm from the edges, apply silicone to the edges, and make a sandwich with the oracle inside (Sanya did it this way for his mine and I for my pocket).
Michelle
In that case, it's easier to just glue the acrylic.
Maria
I read somewhere about acrylic (specifically about the bottom, as protection from stones if it falls) that the size should not be made too tight, otherwise it will bulge in the water.
Michele9664
I decided to apply silicone to the seams of the acrylic in a few places, just like Sanek did, hiding the film between the glasses.
Rodney7316
Almost the current has spread - today I will be pouring fresh water.
Shane
I thought and thought, read and read, studied and studied, and decided not to crimp the ends of the pipes at the outlet - the turbulent flow will come out anyway, even with a 40 cm wide aquarium. Plus, with decorations, it doesn't make sense to crimp the flow.
Unless, of course, it makes sense to crimp the first two outlets, as the flow will be strongest there - it's better to transfer it to the farther outlets.
I will test it in freshwater.
Elizabeth6302
Sanya, strictly my opinion. If I were to do such a layout, I definitely wouldn't crimp it (it would get clogged). I would use a 16mm PVC pipe for the layout, and it would be, believe me, cooler. Why? A smaller structure, easier to decorate, plus better pressure.
Susan1358
Without flattening, it doesn't work for such a number of points. And even the most basic deflectors don't get overgrown - how do they differ from those that are flattened?
The issue isn't about being a smaller and lighter construction - it's a matter of contention - with these things at 25 mm, I can easily attach stones with a fishing line - and regarding the pressure increase - we read Bernoulli again - we only constrict the pipe diameters at their exit - then we don't ruin the pump's performance and have equal pressure throughout the pipeline while increasing the flow rate at the exit.
Lisa
Alek, please be a friend and tell me how you sifted your sand from the Black Sea? Metal mesh 3 mm on the frame? And how much time and effort did it take you? Did you throw the sand into the water? Through a pipe along the bottom? Or first the sand and then the water?
Courtney
Sanya, it's your right, maybe you are right, I won't dispute Johann Bernoulli, but there is also personal experience, for me, it is more important. Time will judge.
Brandi
At least all flow points will be more or less accessible, and access to them will be available if needed - but still, do the flutes on the AF with 3 mm holes not get clogged?
Leah
The flute is outside the aquarium, so both the dry filter and some holes get clogged. Inside the aquarium, there are snails, various mollusks, and even sponges, which enjoy the current. They are the threat. Also, if the lights go out for a couple of hours, a strombus or a small fish like a wrasse or clownfish might end up in the pipe. A 16mm pipe is not suitable for a strombus, and neither the fish nor the snail can pass through the bend. This is what I'm talking about, Sanya, and you should consider my words.
Debra8438
Alek - I figured it out - but you forgot that there's quite a strong "breeze" coming from there - really strong - if there's ripples on the water's surface... and who would climb into a gap of 5 mm by 30 mm = 150 mm, which is close to the inner diameter of a round pipe of 16 mm - let's leave that for later - this whole system is just one big experiment based on you and Tola's experience with AF. All the responsible parts are removable and can rotate as needed - if anything, we'll change them.
You'd better tell me about your experience with sifting Black Sea sand - I asked about it earlier.
Amanda5586
Thank you for this!!! I've been going back and forth in my head about the process - this way and that... it probably makes more sense for me to take a sieve and sow it directly in the sea - there's a ton of water there.
Jennifer7578
Of course, calmly with a cigarette in my teeth, I sowed and chose for myself from 0.5mm to 1.5mm, and everything smaller and larger can stay in the sea.
Debra6575
Alek, did you later observe any fauna in that sand, like amphipods, beetles, or worms from the Black Sea? When I think about the sediment, that's all that comes to mind. For me, the large presence of mussels actually attracts me as a landscape. It's like with markers—I just didn't like the white argolite, no matter what. I just didn't like it, that's all.
Anthony7814
Alek - I'm trying to figure out the AF - I heard that one of your 500 liters had an AF of 45x10x15 cm. I have a 340-liter tank - and as you can see, it sticks out of the window - the width is only 40 cm - if I place this thing on the long edge at 40 cm, it will be really hard to get into the aquarium later - what do you think - purely based on your experience - if I place the AF lengthwise since the width is 40 cm and 10 cm in width and 15 cm in height + one flute - will it hold up???
For now, I'm aiming for a multi-level setup according to Stepanov - three layers - but there are some issues that have come up...
William5838
They started to siphon water from the sea - this is how much they brought in one delivery.
The water is clean, clear, and warm; some little fish were swirling right at my feet - and what a beach, oh my goodness, it made my jaw drop and saliva flow.
There were no shells on that beach... we will keep looking...
Another delivery of water, and the third will be water + sand.
Michael3221
Super. I honestly envy you... being close to the sea is awesome... the system must be fantastic.
Jose
I went swimming over the weekend, and I have to say I've never seen so many sardines so close to the shore at this time. At first, it felt a bit unusual, but then I realized that if there are so many fish, it means the ecosystem is working well. The sand taken from the depth has a slight yellow tint, which can only be seen in comparison to the nearby pure white sand. In 2008, they filled the shore with sand from the depth (that's probably what it's called) from about 70-100 meters off the shore, and the sand was almost white. I wish they would add more this fall. Although maybe it just seemed to me that the sand from the depth was whiter—it's all subjective.
James5032
I used to fill freshwater aquariums with such sand - I would just rinse and boil it. The plants thrived incredibly well, even with an incandescent lamp. Now I'm thinking of adding it to a freshwater aquarium...
In the fall, I often walked from the 10th to the 16th station, and to the left of the stairs from the "Gorky" sanatorium, I saw a lot of stones on the left side of the pier. Now I'm going to the sea on my bike, I'll take a look.
Bethany
You brother, make sure the stones are ours - that is, limestone with holes - otherwise, there are just a lot of basalt boulders piled up - but that's not it.
If you get to Katran today and see a guy with bottles - that's me.
Kristen2246
Yes, you don't often see such a spectacle...
Laura7633
Does the number of horse mackerel indicate the imminent arrival of hydrogen sulfide water? (I have observed this every velvet season not far from the Dniester)
Anne
Here He is - the aborigine of the Black Sea - born millions of years ago from dead shells and sedimentary mud.
Delivery time of the material - from water to water = 25 min.
Another water intake.
Catherine6534
I will be collecting pieces like these.
What you see by the wall - the yellow one - is of magnificent porosity and beauty from the Black Sea (C.M.) and dry reef stones (S.R.K.) - it is completely free. All of this was taken from the same beach and hasn't been used for alpine hills yet.
Cassandra1840
Offtopic. Hey, Baba, I was there on Dzharylgach, breaking our heads with Yarik, so why has the water level in the Black Sea dropped?.... Then we figured it out... it's Sania Lomer launching a new sea project, apparently stockpiling water for the future....
James1625
Tolia has returned.
Sydney
I glued the trims for the AF.
Kellie
I assume this is not the case where the flies are separate from the cutlets. In the sense that the pipes are separate from the stones. Now you will have to arrange and match the stones to the already established flow. Have you already made a layout of the arrangement and alignment of the stones and flow pipes?
Angela7060
I didn't quite understand the question and what I was supposed to do. What layout and how to combine the stones with the pipes?
Recent studies of the beaches in Odessa showed that for the sake of the constantly splashing tourists, all the normal stones have been removed and sand has been piled up - so the shovel is in my hands - whatever I dig up, that's what I'll put down. Or what is the question?
Lindsey3628
The question is that you have already set up the flow pipes without having the stones themselves, as well as combining them with the flow. Do you remember the link I provided? There, the stones were placed on the pipes, designed in such a way as to achieve maximum washing and also harmony in appearance.
Reginald5073
I'm curious to see it myself. So far, it's shaping up to be innovative. Good luck!
Javier5186
Well, let's consider this as preparation and debugging of an alternative system - before the big panorama - and lately I've really been liking (in my head) some kind of low but wide cube... oh, God willing, there will be something to tell and show.
Wesley
An incredibly interesting and unique project is being brought to life!
You also came up with a distinctive design for the drain covers; I didn't expect such a solution, but it's the right one. Microflora can settle in such drains, and that's exactly what we need (even better, like on the serum)...
Rodney
I'm starting to like it.
Eric5208
Well, initially, you need to "see" this plan in its final version, and then, if desired, make it public. After all, there are many systems - some choose corals by color, some fish, and others something else... Everyone has their own approach, but is it interesting to everyone... You are primarily doing this for yourself.
Matthew7977
Tolya told and showed me about this method of gluing and the drain, for which I am immensely grateful to him - I didn't even know that silicone could hold an edge at a 45-degree angle!!! To be honest, I did it a bit differently, but for the sake of history, let's call it "drain system named after A."
Tomorrow we are going to wash the sand - before the storms wash it away...
Eric
My godfather has an aquarium with river fish and plants. Roach, chub, crucian carp. When I visit him, I can't take my eyes off it; it seems simple and lacks bright colors, but it's cool, and I really like it. I think this aquarium will find its audience.
Jason9952
He did it a little differently; I remember we brainstormed together back then on how to construct it better, and even then, at the beginning of the journey, Alik thought everything through in a relevant and interesting way, and then he made the device himself, which still works to this day.
Robert1845
Once upon a time, we had an aquarium with large river perch in our exhibition complex. They were so beautiful that visitors gathered around this aquarium and admired the perch. This often happens; we get captivated by foreign exoticism, while we overlook what is right next to us... and it turns out to be just as good.
Brooke
Well, if it's like in Kharkiv at the Dolphinarium, then of course freshwater ones are more beautiful than the tortured sea ones.
Rebecca
That's for sure... We just came from Skadovsk, where there is a dolphinarium, but Yarik and I didn't even consider watching it, especially since the locals told us that dolphins there are dying and the marine aquariums look terrible.
Chelsea567
Today is a happy day for me; I found a sacred place - a magical place - a fairytale place - few people from Odessa know about it - and swimming there is not allowed - it's all J.K. (living stones).
First of all, there is our natural limestone there - secondly, when I lifted a stone, my jaw dropped - it was crawling with a kilogram of bugs, worms, amphipods, and who knows what else, and there are all kinds of stones - if you want flat ones, there are plenty - if you want round ones, there are small ones too.
Delivery time of C.M. (Black Sea) J.K. (living stones) from the sea to the aquarium = 15 minutes.
Salty Dog
Yolanda
I wonder if the stones from our suppliers are from here.
James4757
From nature - definitely not from here. C.M. (Black Sea, Black Sea) J.K. (living stones) is fresh - it is yellowish-red. S.R.K. (dry reef stones) is more towards white.
Brian
Photo of J.K. (living stones) to the studio!
Joshua448
Sanya is looking at the gray rocks in Tarkhankut (living stones), and there are many, light gray closer to white and gray-yellowish ones, but they are rarer.
Jamie3553
Since there are a lot of creatures there, Sanya, make sure the aeration is constant and good. You can even put a small pump with a porous filter. The water will be even cleaner... I know for sure...
Bridget
While there, Tol's stream is set up to capture oxygen from the surface - tomorrow, if we bring sand, we will relocate, and I will give the remaining water outside a torch of bubbles.
Stacy6866
It remains to launch the ov, scorpion, greenlings, pelingas, and jellyfish.
Brian
It seems with such discoveries - I will set up this aquarium in the garage - we have it in the house and we smoke and drink coffee there in winter - there will be C.M. (Black Sea) aquas.
The morning water - it was poorly photographed - the paving tiles create glare - but if you look at the center of the photo - that stone is lying snugly against the back wall - the width of the aquarium is 60 cm.
John1464
Sanya, don't get too carried away; the Black Sea stones are not good either, and aesthetically they fall short by many orders. The live rocks from the Indo-Pacific definitely need to be added and covered from above. For setting up the aquarium, you have live sand, and the Black Sea live rocks are enough as a base for the reef.
Jenny
To each their own... I never liked white sand... everyone has their own aesthetics - what is natural is perfect, I am a supporter of... both in life and in the aquarium.
And when the stones are covered with Carolina and various creatures, they will become "like everyone else's."
I don't know about the top, but for the occasion, I will take the smallest amount. And not as "decoration," but as an introduction of a different biocenosis.
Anne4851
I completely agree (although no one asked for my agreement), I also plan to visit Tarkhankut again in October and collect something there; there are both red shell rock and yellow. But that's just for the base, and on top, I want to decorate it in a colonial style. That's how it is in the working aquarium, and there are some results too. I will be in Koktebel from the 14th to the 16th, in the vicinity of Kara-Dag; it would be possible to collect, but I have nowhere to store it for a month.
Jill1815
Why didn't you ask?! I posted the topic to get criticism and advice - I could have quietly launched it and then surprised everyone like the Gummi Bears with cool jumps. I could have just sat quietly and worked on new developments with Tolya in private and over the phone, which is what we are doing.
I don't see a deep reason to use only part of C.M. (Black Sea) and J.K. (living stones) - for me, it will be 90-98%. If I had the stone from Tarkan, it would be 250%.
Nicole263
Odesa-Olenivka 500 km
Kyle
Sukhoy Liman (Odessa) - Burlachya Balka = 12 km. The time factor is more important to me - 10-15 minutes in my case. If a person has to travel 800 km to Odessa and 800 km to Tarkhan, it's clear that they should head to Tarkhan.
Leah
Why has he grown so much hair??? There were even umbrellas living on him...
Emma
They are growing, a photo from my aquarium, by the way, I only noticed in the photo that these came out - fan worms or something else? in the first photo, -
Anne4851
Wow, what a beautiful Carolina - so classy... mine was more modest, paler.
But when I, like J.K. (living stones), started selling and pulling them out of the aquarium, I saw that the Carolina was bright and vibrant, while under T5 it didn't look that way - even though the light was decent and I had chosen the bulbs carefully.
Charles4157
So what if you don't have any in the reef or you didn't include live rocks? Igor, what is the ratio of live rocks from the Indo-Pacific to Black Sea live rocks? And about the fan, they are clearly not from the Black Sea.
Christopher8654
The weight ratio is 4 kg of live rocks and 7.5 kg of colonial, while in volume, the colonial makes up 80%. The live rocks serve as a substrate and are half covered with sand; at the very beginning, I was pressured to remove them, as it was ruining the picture. Here is a photo of a recently launched aquarium from December 15, 2011, where a boxer fish is sitting on the live rocks. The fan corals probably migrated from the colonial ones.
Brian
What is AF?
Tasha
Off-topic. Yes, I made a mistake for the second time, and with that, we will end our debate, as there is nothing more for us to discuss. To respect others as much as oneself and to treat them as we wish to be treated—this is what can be called a teaching, but this teaching is not provided by the Dao, unfortunately. Good luck to you.
Frederick
A couple of days ago, Tolya shared his observations, experiences, and research regarding the AF, suggesting that if it is properly executed, has the right substrate, is dispersed, and illuminated, it creates processes that occur in the littoral zone.
I walked around thinking about this, and it is indeed genius, precise, and simple – in this case, the AF is exactly the device that replicates the processes of tides and the surf zone, where the strongest filtration and aeration occurs, and where life abounds!
It's all so interesting... after all, no mechanical or protein purification device can clean water as humanely as this.
Jason
I glued "The Fifth Element"
Charles894
I read many topics about the production of homemade stone, and almost all of them "soak" the stone in running or frequently replaced water to prevent it from emitting odors. After hundreds, or maybe even thousands of years, the Black Sea stone has probably been well "soaked."
Anthony
The data on limestone and so on are described in detail here.
Particular attention can be drawn to the 7th paragraph of the monograph.
Jonathon8514
The glass part and finishing of the aquarium is basically complete.
It looks like this in the window.
Thomas
Wow, it looks great... what about the drainage visors from AF, are you not using them anymore, or am I just not seeing them?
Ahh... I noticed something...
Nicole263
They are what they are - otherwise, why did I stick them? I just removed the painter's tape from them - they blended in with the glass.
The main thing is that I figured out how to maintain the already limited width of the aquarium, which is tightly placed against the window and you can't access the back wall.
The clean substrate area is 8x171=1368 cm. The volume is 8x171x6=8208 cubic cm.
Collin
Well, in my opinion, the issue is resolved. The service area is quite sufficient to work with the future reef. The available space is more than enough. When do you think we should fill the water, set up the reef, and add the sand?
Amanda
The stiffener protruded only 2.5 cm.
Tomorrow we plan to go wash sand and immediately get stones-water - I will still be collecting stones - I will take flat ones and build something like honeycombs out of them for a larger area and "ventilation," and I will also be collecting some live food in the form of amphipods.
Selena4467
At the moment, the budget of the system:
- 2000.00 for glass aquarium
- 300 currency units for the unassembled LED
Jessica5348
The sand is just amazing... Cool! Some features of the future reef are already starting to take shape. Although there is still work to be done. The power of the ecosystem is certainly impressive in the display. So there won't be any problems with "slime" and other parasitic algae here. What do you think about lighting, besides LEDs, Sanya? Or are you only using them?
The substrate in the AF is just what you need. Just get it ready and go for it...
Emma
Still with LEDs - but spot and where necessary. The main chandelier currently has 27 super-bright diodes - it covers the entire aquarium.
Nicholas
About 2.5 weeks ago, I hit the sark that has been living with me for a long time. It was somewhat underdeveloped, even though it was getting good light. The overall light from the T5 and MH seemed sufficient. Under this light, it started to develop polyps in a completely different way; their structure even changed, becoming fluffier and taller, and the flowers turned bright white. The lamp emits 6500K. It's a cool white light.
Eric5208
Hi! I haven't been on the forum for about 5 days... I come in and your aquarium is almost ready. CLASSY! I have a question, I haven't finished gluing my AFO yet, so I'm looking at yours and getting confused... I can't understand how the water will flow from the filter? Along the entire length and onto the rim? Does it have compartments or not? If it's just an overflow, is one wall lower? Thank you.
Samuel6138
Yes, exactly!
Without compartments.
Imagine a box without a bottom. Instead of a bottom, there is a grid on which the substrate lies, and everything drains directly since there is no bottom.
Nicole
Is the grid still in the process of being made? I would like to see how it is done...
Luis3725
I will definitely show it, but I can't pick up the drilling machine from my godmother's father because there are over a hundred holes to drill in acrylic - Toly - 3 mm holes, is that okay? But I haven't figured out the step yet.
Karen2578
Today we received the second shipment of J.K. (live stones) and J.V. - this is where we received them.
Joseph8592
Yes, the holes are 3mm, and the pitch is 2-3cm. Somewhere in such a section...
Jamie3553
The water is like glass... And the place is also beautiful.... Sanya, have you happened to see any actinia under the big stones? They are found in Tarkhankut...
Jeremy8404
I don't know - you need to put your board in the mask there - but I don't have a mask and the water is already cold for me - I'm still walking up to my knees - but I don't feel like diving.
Jeremy8404
You don't need to wear a mask there, and there's no need to dive either; you just walk in up to your knees, or even shallower, and simply turn over the largest stones (there are no small ones underneath) upside down, and you’ll see they always hide under the stones, mainly in the coastal zone, as they have negative phototaxis, meaning they don't like bright light...
Anne
I found it in Nikolaevka, specifically UNDER the stones. I didn't take it.
Katie4842
Sanya, does the hose hold tightly? It's a good idea, it should spring back well and isn't too stiff.
Jeffery7866
Imagine a box without a bottom. Instead of a bottom, there is a grid on which the substrate lies, and everything drains directly since there is no bottom.
Wow, it's so simple!!!!!!!!!!! And I've been overthinking it. Thank you for the idea! Do you think the water will flow loudly?
Andrew7823
I missed something and want to ask. Water is supplied (from the pump?) to the AF. If the total area of the openings is larger than the amount of water supplied, the filler will remain semi-dry (irrigated). But if the pump pumps more, the water won't be able to flow through the openings quickly enough, and gradually the water level will rise above the filler, causing the filler to be submerged in water. What is correct?
Ryan7682
The filler is never dry when the air filter is in operation. This is due to: a) the capillary properties of water, b) the correct drilling pattern (checkerboard pattern), c) the spraying over the substrate due to the pressure of the outgoing stream, d) the closed lid of the box, where water in the form of aerosol turns into droplets, constantly dripping from the lid and along the walls of the device onto the substrate...
Alan273
Thank you for the response, but my question is about something else. If there is too much water, it won't have time to drain, and the substrate will be completely underwater, while if there is too little, it will only be damp. How should I do it correctly?
Joshua8425
Bohnenka, I was at Tarkhan and we didn't meet, I've been hanging around there all summer and could have collected various stones and other creatures underwater.
Brian6895
It's a pity, but I wasn't lucky with the weather; the water was murky all the time and there were storms, so I had to take stones almost consecutively. I also only brought back one greenish fish - a quail, as I couldn't find anything more interesting in such water.
Christopher3770
Off-topic: Our biologist has dug up a red-striped bullhead, he says it's very rare and it lives on vertical walls, the Southern Seas Institute has already published an article about it.
Joshua9847
Is there a place where I can read the FAQ and basics of AF, and see photos of the working system? Can this be hidden in Samp?
Jennifer
Look here, in this same topic, there is also a description of the principles of the AF operation. In the photo, it is actually in operation.
Deborah2682
Buddy, show and tell - look, we are already growing.
Here, the mussels are in trouble, but I have an idea on how to try to save them - well, the initial quantity won't be there, but I think the main colony will remain. So the question is - how did you load the live rocks with the mussels into the aquarium? What salinity did you use? 35%? Because I was thinking of gradually salting up to tropical levels before the launch.
Nicholas
Sanya doesn't need to be hidden; on the contrary, he should be showcased and shown to everyone.
Jacob4800
Will there be enough food for the mussels in the reef?
Melanie
I am going to check this in the form of a clear experimental test - like Yes - look, they live - or No, guys, they left me after 3-6 months.
But two huge oysters in my first system lived and thrived.
Nicole
The stone from Tarkhan looks less yellow and perhaps resembles a tropical one more (there are some that are hardly distinguishable). Overall, an interesting aquarium is shaping up...
Steven
When are you going to plant the jellyfish?
Jeremy8404
The interior looks great; it's unlikely to arrange the reef any better than this, as every detail has already been thought out. Moreover, the aquarium is not lit as it should be, which has a huge impact on the visual perception of the picture as well. And you will still have enough creativity to elevate the ridge to the desired artistic level; the main part is already behind, now, as they say, only additions remain.
Nicole7268
Don't sprinkle tetrachloride on my wound. Yesterday I was telling Tola about the beautiful Cornerots that settled at my feet - I can imagine how these chandeliers would shine with the northern lights in the actinic light.
Indeed... I need to adjust the light and take a look - but in the morning I already prefer the ridge more.
Brent7831
Well, Sania, I think it's time to congratulate you on the successful launch of your new marine reef aquarium; the system is already up and running, even if it's not fully complete yet. There's still a lot of work to do, but the end is already in sight. Just some lighting, ATO, a few additions to the reef itself, gradually reaching 35%... and you can start thinking about the first inhabitants.
Holly
Just plant someone already, it will be more interesting.
Natalie
Today I will set the flute in A.F., and then it will really be interesting.
Diana8604
Hmm... this sea hardly evaporates water... two days and the level is the same... previously it would evaporate 2-3 liters during this time.
Kathryn514
Is the water temperature the same?
Susan9583
Off-topic Who are you planning to imprison and for what?
Thomas1044
The temperature should be one degree higher - the system under the air conditioner was running - it was blowing indirectly, but apparently it was evaporating a lot from the mirror - plus there was a large overflow there...
But I like this principle more and more.
Amy9618
, Jellyfish!
Karen81
I marked and drilled the holes for the AF grid with a Dremel - a 1x1 cm step, 4 mm acrylic.
Here is the overall view.
This is all the equipment - two pumps - Atman 1200 l/h for the flute - New Jet 3000 l/h for the current.
The overflow works 99% silently!!! I guessed the slopes and overflows correctly.
Wesley
Powerful! The aeration is just amazing... The intake is well thought out with a mechanical filter, and you can use a siphon to go over the top and remove the sediment that settled from the stones when installing the reef. The clarified water, along with the washed sand, can be returned to the aquarium after settling, while the sediment goes to the sewage.
Zachary
Record me as Third...
Kimberly2102
In the club of heretics? It's noted... Now you are the third...
Melanie
What about the heretics?
The Club of Thinkers and Seekers - I propose.
Laura4892
Today we went to get live rocks from "Sixth Element" - I collected more than half a bucket of salt, but when I loaded it into the "shaft," I barely filled a quarter - we'll go again tomorrow.
There was a storm last night - a lot of sea life was thrown into my spot - a couple of Corner Rot fish have docked there permanently, and my wife took a photo of a Rapana.
And again, our dog is wandering in the water - we'll get her some food tomorrow.
Jacqueline5976
Offtopic Well, let it be that way... there were just times when those who thought and searched were called that, and we know what happened to them... Now this is no longer practiced. Total pressure methods are in use... By the way, water flows through the comb in a cool way, like a waterfall.
Curtis
I just haven't been around - I'm quite the character - it seems everyone is already aware.
Today, a lot of wind blew into my little bay - as I mentioned before - I found and collected three types - the unequal Scapharca inaequivalis - up to 8 cm, and the edible heart clam Cerastoderma lamarcki - up to 7 cm, which has become very rare; we haven't found any live mollusks for several years.
One large one about 4-5 cm - two others smaller - one has already buried itself in the sand - I'll search there again tomorrow.
Kathy
If mollusks that haven't been seen in your waters for several years have started to appear, it means the sea has become cleaner. By the way, dolphins have even started living in the Bosphorus Strait, while they were absent for about 5-8 years until the Turks began imposing hefty fines on ships passing through the strait for even the slightest pollution.
David4968
I live by the sea - and I should note by the Black Sea (Ch.M.) - in Odessa - not in Jakarta. And lives... well, very far from...
What, seriously??? 21st??? Wow! And who are the gray fish? Sardines? I wasn't planning to settle them...
I did it!!! I did it!!! Successfully did it!!! If I didn't like it - I sold it off... This is similar to the tactic with a rubber woman...
Chad4168
I didn't mean to offend anyone.
Well, I'm sorry.
So, are there Hepatuses swimming in the Black Sea? Or something like that?
I'm very interested to see everything you do, I support you, I like it, no problem.
Melissa2062
Well, brother, we'll get this matter to the reef - you just didn't start following the train of thought from the beginning.
And in general, this is just the debugging of a system that will be duplicated for 1000-1500 liters. That is, debugging the launch and maintenance system under normal natural conditions.
Larry
I apologize for going off-topic. I was thinking about something after rereading the thread. Can AF be used in freshwater? And in a lake? I have an option where part of the substrate is not submerged in water; can I pour water on it from a flute for biofiltration? The top is still moist anyway. Am I understanding the principle of operation correctly?
Mark
As they say, "everything you do, you must do well, even if it's madness."
If you bring 50 liters of water from the sea once a week and replace it, then even without an ATO, your aquarium will be in "chocolate." And in winter? "How much winter is there, anyway?"
Jason5071
And the salting to 35 is basically the plan, and maybe there was even a plan to go from 18 to 35 by adding not osmosis water, but Black Sea water - but that would be such a syrup...
So there will be a smooth salting with "Tetroy" - when I gather the light, I will start, the compensation for evaporation will be our favorite osmosis - there won't be a substitution with Black Sea water for salting - although I'm not sure because in that case, you might hang a label saying "well, there are substitutions with live water."
That is, I started and organized a living system - and then we sail like everyone else.
Whitney
The thing is that any system, whether marine or any other, enclosed by a dam starts to live its own life and gradually degrades. Unfortunately... Have you seen how many beautiful Israeli aquariums there are? They quietly transport water from the Mediterranean and are happy – they save on salt and everything else. And the little jars are resilient.
Well, as they say, time will tell. I'm sure you won't hide it. I think it will be easier and guaranteed successful with seawater.
Maybe cover the AF with black film? Otherwise, over time, sulfur will form, and algae will start to grow.
Leah
It seems to me that if there is an opportunity to hide all the equipment, including the air conditioning system, in a different place out of sight, the aesthetics would greatly improve. Right?
Kristen1161
I agree, this is observed, biological clocks also have their own mechanism, and when they stop, it's bad.
Kostya, I won't comment on Sanya regarding the film on the AF, he will explain himself why he made it transparent and how he views the element sulfur.
Helen
Sorry for the flash glare - I just took the real water level of the aquarium - filled more than half a standard bucket with salt - and it turned out like this:
And here are my "orliks" that I collected today after the storm - and their lips are red!!! Therefore, it looks very much like the edible cockle Cerastoderma lamarcki - up to 7 cm, which has become very rare; live mollusks haven't been found for several years.
I found three, the largest one is on the left - in the lower right corner, the cockle has already buried itself in the sand - which means it's alive - the other two are just open and breathing - waiting for something...
Megan
Off-topic, I apologize once again, I really did start reading from the middle, and honestly thought it would be purely a Black Sea aquarium with its flora and fauna, so I thought, why not a jellyfish, that would be cool, what if it lived.
So what does Stepanov have to do with the marine aquarium?
I apologize again! I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm breathing evenly and calmly.
Sandra7004
Max - D. Stepanov "At Home" and his AF on gravel.
Dana4701
I hear about this Stepanov for the first time.
Lauren
Thanks to Stepanov, the first Russian-language book on marine aquariums was published. This book provides a detailed description of maintaining a reef aquarium, as if we were still living in the Soviet Union. That is, without the vast selection of modern equipment and the help of the Internet. The book explains how to assemble a functioning reef system at home and the basic principles of maintaining a reef aquarium. Moreover, the author of this book was the first in the USSR to breed clownfish back in 1984, which also commands respect.
Daniel9952
This is an adult algae-eating dogfish (Salarias Fasciatus) ))) With the launch!!!! The topic is very interesting and the aquarium is promising.
Christopher1774
Thank you! I did some self-education on the history of Soviet aquaristics yesterday. To be honest, I thought the only book on marine aquaristics was by Ov and Savchuk, although there are others, but they are superficial and not worth attention. I haven't come across a single word about Stepanov's book on the forum.
Daniel132
Lhomer, have you done the tests yet? I had a pretty decent nitrite level on the stones with C.M. (Black Sea) at first, but it's understandable, the remnants of cystozira were dying off, some from the mussels... But the shrimp and others handled it easily. They also mowed down other Black Sea macrophytes.
Randy
No, buddy - I didn't do it - I have nothing - I gave everything to Seryoga from Sumy as a bonus - that's how radical I am - starting from zero means starting from zero - I only kept the TDS meter and the hygrometer.
I'm curious about what's there, but I'm more interested in calcium-magnesium and buffer rather than nitrates.
There were no cystozirids on my rocks - but there are a ton of macrophytes and I see they are disappearing - I urgently need to gather the LED light fixture tomorrow - I need light - I really need light - especially with the classic startup going on...
Nicholas2252
This is Sanya, do you remember what date your first water with stones appeared?
Yolanda
Muniki brought water earlier on 08.09.12.
April3499
So do you take this date as the date of the aquarium's establishment, or another one when everything was already set up, filled, and started running?
Patricia
Off-topic Interesting people who love marine aquaristics in "Presnyaks" will soon say: Vallisneria and Cryptocoryne cannot be grown without CO2 and fertilizers. But here it's all the opposite - back to nature without expensive equipment and complicated tricks. The sea is not that scary. Huge thanks to the author for the topic; there should be many more sailors thanks to you.
Tina
This is the main reason why I talk and show so much in detail here.
Our vacantly-instrumental ensemble has finally united into a serious rock band called "Black Sea Live Rock," and we are bringing metal to the country.
Jennifer5371
I'll write it down briefly in my diary...
Brent5588
I think it's worth starting a similar topic about such an extreme launch. Well, if you know English, you can also aim for Riffcentral, let them know about our people.
Joseph591
I am a patriot of this forum and I stand by it - there is no information in Russian on this topic anywhere except for my non-specialized aquarium forum, and it will not be available. That's my little quirk.
I will definitely publish on Reef Central when I have specific results - I have many friends in the Netherlands, as well as around the world (that's part of my job).
Christine864
Yes-yes... really, Dutch men are not citizens of the CIS and post-Soviet countries, but I bought Salifert tests (Netherlands) and hope to continue buying them in Airife...
Amy1672
Offtopic There is a homegrown "Thomas" from Ukhta who is struggling with her "backward" and "incorrect" sailors. Let him come to our forum, register, and maybe he will tell us something interesting and new, enlighten us, and guide us on the right path. We are ready to compete with the "great" northern brother on his own turf...
Jill9137
I missed something at this moment - what is extreme about this launch? I launched extremely the first time - now I can look back. That was where the real extreme was... as per the classic scheme, I launched at a very high cost - almost successfully launched, and then bravely struggled with what I had bought with my own (not small) money - until I realized that it was a road to nowhere.
Zachary
I won't share your pessimism. There is enough foam everywhere, and it's not worth tarnishing Aqua Logo over one issue. There are many knowledgeable aquarists there, not just from Russia.
Kristin
Kostya, I have always been and will always be an optimist... It's a pity that for some reason you decided otherwise. If it were true, it would concern all of AL, but as it is, it only involves one individual who tried to portray the situation with M.A. (marine aquarium) as completely hopeless... I, for one, don't like it, and I don't know how others feel. As for the fact that there are many talented sailors there, I can confirm that. So, take a look, do you consider this normal in relation to our sailors and the country we live in? Frankly speaking, I hope for support from our forum in this regard, but it is not visible, well, never mind...
Wendy8540
I think everything is on your side, but it seems to me that this "bearded guy" from Ukhta is not worth a bit of your attention (he regularly spouts nonsense on AL) and there are plenty of such users everywhere. The fact that AL has started to implement its "democracy" has contributed to the formation of Rifcentral-ru, for which they deserve a big thank you. As for Sasha's topic, it is probably not very necessary for the AL forum, as it does not promote AL's products, although the topic will be interesting to many sailors.
Cynthia
I love this forum, although there is much I don't like... and I am not very interested in the opinion of the bearded guy from Ukhta, Republic of Komi, where, as everyone knows, all world aquaristics, especially tropical reef aquaristics, originated.
I am working hard on assembling the chandelier - maybe I'll connect it today.
Melissa2062
What's true is true, but you know, someone else could be in my place, a second or a tenth. It's not right... and in general, on any forum, we need to uphold the banner of marine aquaristics, which has many more years of development than someone with even a single specimen thinks and tries to paint their own picture... Such things need to be stopped. That's what Taka did...
Let's wrap up this unnecessary discussion. Otherwise, the topic owner won't understand us. Over and out...
Sydney
Yes, it will be interesting to take a look at an LED light fixture of that size.
Jessica5016
I fully support you! Here we are, Anya and I, catching up with you, currently studying the material based on your works, and then we will launch a small sea, to start with!
Thank you so much!
Theresa5149
Therefore, whoever wants to can come here - rather than me going somewhere.
He will understand - he himself has such views - especially from Ukhta to Odessa where I took stones and sand - like on the way to Zhmerynka... And if I write on the logo that "I bought a cable and blocks for the chandelier at Epicenter for 50.00," what will that say, for example, to a resident of Nizhny Novgorod? Or Ukhta?!
Jeremy3637
Welcome!!! The main thing is that we have fun and you won't get bored - we are such dreamers...
Collin
Off-topic Or let's say, Naryan-Mar (...where reindeer herders live...)
Jessica5016
Thank you! We have already noticed
Off-topic: If I may ask a question...
Is it possible to set up a mini reef in an 80-liter BOYU MT-50 without a skimmer, using water changes, or in a 58-liter BOYU TL 450 with a skimmer and sterilizer?
I understand that I will be doing water changes in both cases, but which aquarium would you recommend for a first experience?
Thank you!
Michelle
Yes, there are clear Michurinians here! They do not wait for favors from nature, but take them straight from the sea by the buckets, barrels, and basins.
Karen1649
Michurin was engaged in the selection and crossing of varieties - while we are more like naturals, that is, repeaters of natural processes.
Jeffery
And what is the translation from Black Sea salinity to oceanic salinity?
I want to ask - is that corrugated hose from the pump original or was it bought separately?
Reginald5073
This is just saltwater and nothing more.
It is sold at hardware markets and even in EPЦ, I have seen.
Leah
Offtopic. Toto and the water level in the Black Sea has started to drop... They say the Turks on the Bosphorus are already shoveling water towards us, but it doesn't come, no matter what you do...
Kevin3579
Off-topic
I have different information and I can see that the level of our Black Sea is indeed rising significantly - this is related to the global climate and the melting of the Antarctic glaciers - over the last 5 years, if I remember the figure correctly, the Black Sea has risen by 10 cm.
Actually, it's a complete disaster... but for now, they are still building fancy houses right on the sand.
Nicholas2252
My LED chandelier is taking shape - it's turning out to be a solidly beautiful piece of nonsense.
All the components have been sent by Ray - now it's just a matter of assembling, meaning this is a reproduction of his lamp in a DIY style.
Only two plugs and a suspension on the blocks (rollers) are left, so there will be a pendant light with a quick lift for access to the aquarium.
Jacqueline6670
The lamp is beautiful and will be convenient to work with... Good job, Sanya.
Michelle1662
- Burn, burn-iiiii
- My star
- My star on three diodes-aaaaaa...
Tammy2040
It seems a bit unkosher for three ;-) , look at the kinds of assemblies people are putting together.
Melissa1838
Well, we are people too, and we are probably like Teletubbies - but shooting at such a light source... it's probably so that the worms hide deeper in the sand.
Stephen5841
There are two optics there, it seems like everything is well thought out. Well, as a last resort, you can shoot "Dune" underwater.
Jade
Can you provide more details about the problems related to the presence of foam in the system and how it manifested? Have you had such experience? Real live rocks + sand - is it from the Black Sea? If so, then a good reef aquarium cannot be built with or without foam...
Joseph2576
A glossy picture made from a hundred SPS corals may not be achievable, but a beautiful sea with fish, soft corals, and various small creatures is easily done (if you use your head). Just look at Anatoly's aquariums... As for assembling a collider from different equipment, the price of which seems to be made of gold, there's always time to do that and then dance around it. I will buy a skimmer for myself, and when I gain experience, we'll see. An aquarium, even with super equipment, can easily be ruined (there are many ways). Respect to the author of the topic—he documents every step on the forum—let's see where we can find such experience for free.
Kristen2246
And we took and built it. They may not be what some people want, but check out our topics. To this day, after so many years, there is a substrate of Black Sea live rocks in our reef, and we also brought water for the setup... We have a mixed reef: soft corals with hermatypic ones. There are few SPS. If SPS is the main measure of a "good" reef, then it depends on personal preference. For me, for example, LPS and soft corals are more to my liking.
Melissa
It's not about expensive equipment, let alone a collider made of different equipment. The essence lies in the proper setup and its subsequent development and establishment. SPS aquariums are no more complicated than LPS or soft coral aquariums, and there's no need to build illusions about this or draw conclusions from the experiences of those who are unsuccessful. Once you gain experience, we can continue the discussion, but for now, I recommend setting up the aquarium correctly so that you don't lose the desire to engage with marine life in the future.
Kyle
Do you hear yourself? The substrate is made of Black Sea live rocks. The substrate can be made of plastic, dry reef rocks, or other materials, but the main mass consists of good, proper live rocks. Both your aquarium and the other one have undergone many changes, and the amount of Black Sea rock in them is minimal. Don't forget that this topic is purely about an aquarium with Black Sea rocks and sand, plus with AF from a distant past and without a foam separator. This whole endeavor will end sadly for the topic starter, and not without your help...
Jill1815
for someone, this experience will ventilate the mind well
Amy9618
Several years ago, people had a similar reaction to those starting on S.R.K. (dry reef rocks), and now people are fully launching into various "roshe." Perhaps one AF won't be enough, and additional equipment will need to be added. Thank you so much, Sanya, for the topic! And even if this aquarium eventually becomes not entirely alternative, with your persistence, it will thrive and flourish. Good luck!
Jeffery7866
You can launch anything, even on garbage, but the result is what matters, and there is none yet!!! Where have all the people with similar launches gone? They've disappeared... confused many, misled inexperienced aquarists, acted smart, been rude, and vanished. Unfortunately, all this nonsense still exists today, and many are clapping their hands and feeling touched...
Erin
Let it be even 100 years dedicated to M.A. (marine aquarium)... progress does not stand still, everything is being improved and becoming more accessible, while you are trying to return to the past and use long-forgotten and imperfect methods, even encouraging others to do so.
You can engage in discussion and defend your opinion, but no one will hear it. A little time will pass, and you will regret this experiment, while all efforts will be focused on saving this system, but they will be in vain... As for A.F., I can say that it can only find its place in fish aquariums; it is not needed for reefs...
Joe
I know that you are very skilled at twisting and pulling out of what is written what you want to hear. I didn't specifically write about launching on Black Sea stone; I wrote about launching on materials without using J.K. (living stones). As for your hints that I am a seller, I would rather remain silent...
Jennifer7578
Let's take this SPS system (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals) (small-polyped corals).
Earl
Come on, don't gang up on the person. The jar is quite interesting, not like the others - that's all. Read about filtration systems. Besides the unfortunate experience with the foam filter, there are many other water purification systems. Your AF (also known as wet/dry) filter is interesting, but "don't put all your eggs in one basket." You have a beautiful aquarium, but let's not go overboard - like "us" against everyone. Your filtration method in the marine aquarium is not ideal.
Lauren
And where was this mentioned... There is not a word about it in the first post of this topic, and as I understand it, the idea is not to use live rocks from regions where animals that are supposed to appear in this aquarium have lived for millions of years.
Karen2578
You will write how many live rocks (J.K.) you currently have in your aquarium, and then we will discuss it together. 2-3 years is an exaggeration; this jar will be in trouble within a year.
Maria
Well, I'm telling you, we'll see...
Joseph1346
Oga... millions... yet here are 300 million. only all living, not rotten with the stench of dead fish upon arrival... That's why no one will start importing live stones without a penny and assistance.
Julia
What is the "alternative" of your aquarium? And to what?
Please provide a list of what you plan and what you have done. There can be various conclusions drawn here.
Dawn6148
No, we are peaceful people. We have talked about this many times, and I repeat once again: we do not impose our methods on anyone, we have not imposed them, and we will not impose them. I agree that the filtration system is weak—100%. It is weak. My task was to achieve the results I was counting on despite this weak system. As you can see, it took me more than one year. I have created so many topics where I show the aquarium; maybe I shouldn't have?!!!
Cheryl
I would like to receive a clear description of the system.
Laurie3842
I am not too proud to say again:
C.M. (Black Sea) J.K. (live rocks) only
C.M. (Black Sea) live sand only
C.M. (Black Sea) water - will be salted to the reef
There is no classic sump and there won't be
Equipment: two pumps + one stream without a skimmer
Light - LED
The sea is planned as a "mixed reef" with a focus on softness (personal)
System budget 550-700 USD
Total volume 440 liters 195x40x50
Stephen5841
Under no circumstances should there be a penny!
Chad4168
Right now he would help - and time will tell - for those who read the topic carefully from the beginning, I said that if there is a pen, it would be of low power, 20-25% of the currently existing ones.
Anthony7814
Wow, brothers - I haven't even started with the dosol yet - and there are already tons of wishes.
I’d better go fix the chandelier (with my weak hands - it’s not like I’m sealing KR lids with silicone, just to make sure they don’t leak).
Timothy
Maybe you want to hear it this way, there is no malice. I try to protect people from mistakes as much as I can, but unfortunately, it doesn't always work out. Very few people on the forum can admit their mistakes, but over the phone, I spend a lot of time explaining and helping to solve problems, and believe me, there are quite a few. This is exactly why my messages seem malicious.
Mike
Let's... Denis... you will protect other people from mistakes - not me and not in my topic.
I really value Airif as a commercial enterprise - it is very pleasant to work with you, and you are a very responsive and responsible person - but let's leave it at that in this matter...
And finally, I still asked to justify "why the sand from the Black Sea (Chornomorsky, Black Sea) is not allowed"?!
Kenneth7331
Off-topic. Understood, realized. Now I will do without the abbreviation... I don't really like it myself either.
Laura9093
I don't understand why you needed J.K. (living stones) IP at all if everything was fine with the Black Sea stone.
Karen81
I am not protecting you, but rather from you and similar ideas. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it is possible, but why? Sand from a dirty sea in a system where corals accustomed to good conditions will live, I think is not right.
Laura7633
Your task is to prevent everyone from seeing the experiment and the excellent results? A question arises... the answer to which is clear...
And dead sand from a bag of lime dust from a "sand quarry" who knows where or even from a dirty shelf - Is that allowed?
Andrea
I want to see the experiment myself, but you are not the first one to conduct such experiments. I don't believe in excellent results.
Do you have such a nasty thing in your aquarium?
Steven
I don't care whether someone believes it or not... strange, right? I'm just doing my experiment.
If you can provide a link to someone who has already done this... I would appreciate it!
What a mess??? In this aquarium, unlike the first one, I don't see any mess for some reason... again, strange, right? The macrophytes are going away, they need light. It's okay - I'll gather some fresh ones and add them - I have to drive 12 km to the live rocks without traffic lights.
Elizabeth
I'm not asking about the formula for the Black Sea stone and how it differs from regular live stones. I'm curious why you spent money on live stones when they are abundant and free in the Black Sea? If it was just for the sake of free organisms, then I apologize, but with the money you spent on live stones, you could have bought a lot of them.
Jennifer9100
If they don't lie for days in dumps on the shore - and then "fly" here like Santa Claus on New Year's.
And also, gentlemen - I want to ask - are you aware of cases of launching and successful reefs on S.R.K. (dry reef stones)?
And on artificial reefs?!
Dana4701
I think the Black Sea will be cleaner than many others, so there's no need to criticize it so harshly... In the oceans, there is so much garbage that huge moving islands are forming from it...
Rachel
Well, of course, if you compare it to the Kyiv Sea, it's cleaner...
Mario
Don't forget yourselves, and stay men, not...
Christopher1252
Well... what a brilliant move... Misha (Zeleny) - you have my mobile - if anything, I will always help you!
At the last hole, as usual, the little sword crunched and, as usual, it was unreachable inside - I drilled and struggled, but I assembled the chandelier - I will connect it now - maybe today I will post a photo of the aquarium with the light.
Frank7213
Can someone show me this "destiny" mentally??? Not by stirring the air with hands and throat - but with a concrete example - like, look, this is what was done and it doesn't work,,, Huh?
Otherwise, these are just your and Denis's unfounded guesses - Denis is having a meltdown - that's all. Just take a look at Anatoly's Album - this is pure nonsense.
As a last resort, I might set a penalty - I see it in my worst nightmares - I will set a minimal amount... but no way I will set it - everything will go according to a clear plan.
I can only exchange live stones for coins from Tarkhan.
Elijah7048
Yes, there is such a person! From Kamchatka and his super cold-water aquarium.
Angela7060
I already wrote "stay men and keep yourself together," and you are talking about hysteria... The hysteria is with you since you are the owner of this "wonder" and don't know how it will end and what you will do next... Just don't say that you know... It's a pity that you don't listen to wise advice and do everything against common sense.
Jeremy
Here is an example: if Anatoly had the opportunity to launch on J.K. (living stones) IP, he might have launched on it.
Jeremy
On the 475th move, I couldn't take it anymore...
Damn it, right-Aquarium, this is really impressive. You look at it and your mouth waters... No offense, but I'm reading this and I can't understand what you want to achieve in the future? If you were starting with minimal equipment, that would be understandable, but as it is, I just don't get it... What's the goal???
Kathleen
If you want to live, you won't make a fuss.
Jessica9188
Off-topic This movie I saw... But there the cow didn't give birth at an altitude of 4000m. And here it is calving.... oh, typo....
Andrew9581
I remember those words spoken. I ask: Are you changing the water? Pouring in chemicals? Feeding the fish? The answer: Once a year. Why, everything is fine as it is. Well, once a week, there's no need to pamper it. I concluded: If it wants to live, it won't be so awkward.
Patrick4439
With all due respect, did I offer this to someone? I believe that everything will thrive on Black Sea stone; for many years our foreign colleagues (especially in large volumes) have been using plain concrete, which is also fine. I asked why? What is the goal? To prove that you can settle an anemone on Black Sea stone? That's obvious even to a fool. WHY???
Stephen5857
Пожалуйста, предоставьте текст для перевода.
Raven7170
Thus, the sea anemone lives on glass...
Daniel4967
Yeah..., and the SPs fragments on the C.M. (Black Sea, Чёрное море) pebbles. For example, Hidnopora quickly envelops them, just like the umbrellas, keep placing them... should I show a photo?
Ryan
Like the slabs of cement. Like the sunken ships in the oceans. But what does this mean? I haven't read the entire topic (I apologize), but why is your aquarium not set up solely with Black Sea stones? Judging by the photo, it looks like you have live rocks in your display. Why are they in your system if the Black Sea stones serve their purpose just as well as the live rocks?
Tracey
Launched, Max is launched... that was back in 2003. The tropicals were gradually getting settled. It took years for that. At one point, I had two reef aquariums, Yarik knows, he saw. Then one was converted for fish, and the larger one, 900 liters, is still running as a reef to this day. I also started with Black Sea rock in 1996, that was something too... I brought it from Tarkhankut... Everything is in the topics and in the photos... If you want, take a look when you have time.
Joseph9057
This means that in natural conditions, planulae settle on anything and then develop into a full-fledged coral.
Jacob4800
And even on the anchor chain
Should this mean anything?
Well, a person decided to set up a marine aquarium on the Black Sea substrate - God grant him success.
In any case, the Black Sea is also a sea, and the processes occurring in it are the same.
Well, corals and coral fish don't live in it. But there will be in the Black Sea aquarium, although it will have to be salted, what can you do...
They will live. Young and not so young Michurinians know this. Well, maybe not acroporas, but there will be Zoanthids.
Natasha7622
Please don't take offense, but sometimes you respond to a specific question with a lengthy post that doesn't provide an answer... Anyway. I looked at your photos - beautiful reef. I personally like it! How would you set up your aquarium now - with Black Sea live rocks or something else? Let's not consider financial aspects.
Andrew4194
Kostya, that's exactly what I'm trying to say, that it doesn't matter. Regarding the launch - personally, I'm not against it. Everyone can do what they want.
Jeffrey2277
Exactly! This is a HOBBY! Voluntary madness.
Susan1358
Friends - I finally turned on the light today!!!
It was epic!!!!
Tolya-yaaaa, my hypotheses turned out to be correct - as soon as the light was on, all the creatures jumped out of the stones and shouted - Sanya-yaaaaaaa, we finally waited! The heart-shaped ones closed, and the mussels opened.
To be continued.
Dana6523
How much did the lamp cost? How many LEDs are there and what kind?
Jeffery7866
I'll answer you, brother - to the other demagogues at the beginning of the topic.
Personally, for me, 350 USD - on a friendly basis, so to speak - Cree LEDs pushed to full power - Royal Blue, Blue, White - on one star - 9 stars for now... I have thoughts about increasing, but where it’s needed, not where everyone else does... I'm very grateful to Rey - he actually gifted me such a miracle plus a controller that I still haven't figured out because there are a lot of different "settings points."
Nancy758
Off-topic. I'm not offended... I have nothing to be offended about, I'm just stating a fact... When you launched your marine project, I helped you a lot back then. By the way, where is it now? All the posts were just the way you needed them back then... And now there are no responses... What other response do you want to hear now, brother? I've already said everything. Alright...
Sharon
Thank you, Kostya. I will probably make another photomontage in my topic. Otherwise, some people might have doubts. They write things like "nonsense, rubbish, all sorts of nonsense," while their own aquarium made of Black Sea stones has long been out of order...
Lynn4242
I will explain for myself why and whether I will add live rocks (LR) to the aquarium - yes, I will, but very carefully, in small amounts and not decayed. This is done for the bacterial saturation of the overall system with the missing species of biocenosis. However, it can easily be done without this - saturation will occur on its own and automatically, although of course more slowly than if you add a rock.
Mark
Justification is a path to distrust. You and no one else should have to explain or justify anything. You did it, you shared it, you showed the result. That's it.
As the ancients said, for those who understand, it's enough.
And you can't embrace the ungraspable. For some, it's super corals, for others, Nemo, for others, a school of Anthias.
Sanya, I assume that "the Fish will soon come!"
Nicole263
Interesting... in the C.M. (Black Sea, Black Sea) environment, is there any material - crypt???
Melissa2062
Yes, there are indeed many more ailments than in the Red Sea or in the IP.
Darlene4238
The fish will be the last to go, and very gradually and thoughtfully. The softness will go first.
Jessica8898
Who doubted? The main thing is to say something. And I haven't read much material on Logo about why there is no crypto in the Black Sea??? Has no information come up? And the direct dependence of this creature on the salinity of the water...
Brooke
With such a high level of emotions, there was a strong desire to close the topic. Also to impose bans. An interesting matter turned into a talking shop.
Sarah5423
Don't forget that the cyst of the crypt dies at a temperature of +10-12°C. The Black Sea (Ch.M.) is a cold sea and has often frozen in recent years, with an average winter temperature of +7-8°C.
It seems that I need to add something to my white light chandelier because it turned out too blue. I'll hang it up now, correctly connect the controller, and take a look—there will be photos.
April3499
Here they are in our flower beds... for those who need, I can arrange delivery for a symbolic price... at least 3 tons.
But in terms of porosity, they are at a three - there are solid pores and pure CaCO3.
Jeanne
Today, I installed the chandelier permanently - the suspensions are on a 2.5 mm cable - with hooks and pulleys on top, so it can move up and down when needed.
Well, damn, forgive me, friends - I just can't overcome all the blue - it's not like that in reality...
Now we have a really cool effect on our veranda - shadow reef.
Leslie
Great... Well done!!!
Thomas5021
I forgot to set the accents:
All the macroalgae have left the stones - absolutely all of them - and the stones were all covered with them - I didn't manage with the lighting - I didn't...m-a-n-a-g-e - they will recover, of course, and I will get new ones for the aquascape - but for this type of setup, the lighting must be synchronized with the loading of the aquarium, and again, it parallels the classic setup with I.P.
Joshua448
Half of the AF is illuminated strongly - is that bad? (Will it not be gray there?) Or is there not enough water and current strength?
Stephanie3084
Don't worry so much, the macrophytes will return, and in such numbers that even friends from Holland will be envious...
Christopher7213
I hope it will form - but don't be angry - there is a type of macrophytes - it's hard to grow them in an aquarium - they are brown-green in color and look like moss - that's the main thing - I had some of that grow in the first system - until I set up the KR.
In general, brother, we will see - this is an experiment - maybe it will turn out to be a half-success.
Joseph9203
On Saturday, I will go to the lagoon to select live rocks for the complete aquascape. And to further enhance the understanding of the picture - they will all bend as soon as I start adding salt.
William1830
In my opinion, in about a week we'll be laughing our heads off. The main thing is to buy a lawnmower.
Laura3615
You, as always, are right on the mark...
A tool in the hands of a fool is just a piece of metal.
Maybe some really need something simpler, more alternative, like one stick and two strings,
and it will be calmer for everyone, both the owner and the fish.
Michelle
I read the topic and spent 1.5 hours on it. It's clear that sellers defend their position, while marine aquarium enthusiasts defend theirs. Why stir up another controversy? The truth is somewhere nearby. Could you please tell me the ratio of LED types on the stars? From the topic, I only saw that there are 9 of them (the stars), is that correct?
Adam
The aquarium is on the window, guys, did you forget? There was enough direct sunlight there even without LEDs, and the aquarium has been there since the 8th, but I don't see any "Dutch cyanistic diverse herbs." And with the light, at the time of launch, you don't really need to put in much effort, there's nothing to illuminate yet.
Diana3118
Nine stars. Each star has the same set of LEDs
- Blue
- Royal Blue
- White
I really like the light - but I will add a bit more white - maybe some red as well - I still haven't figured out if I need red... maybe it will create an interesting spectrum with red.
I liked how the controller is set up by default, i.e., Ray has already pre-set it - the dawn gradually ignites with blue and smoothly transitions to the zenith - unlike before with T5 - a relay clicks and two lamps turn on - that's your lift-off.
Ryan1989
We consulted with Rea and I decided that in my lamp, the white channel will be highlighted separately, which will provide a more realistic image.
Mike
So, you finally decided on LEDs? Good job!
I also have white on a separate channel - all three diodes are on separate channels - I'm thinking if I add more whites, I will put them on the 4th channel.
Laurie3842
I will have 22 stars on Channel 4.
Laura3673
What set of CDs did you take for the 3 main ones? Did you take the reds? And the UV?
