• On the importance of correctly writing the names of marine hydrobionts

  • Rita

Dear Allod, I kindly ask you to study and remember how to correctly write scientific names of animals. It's just terrible...

Jennifer7159

It's terrible that many forum members are extremely illiterate (including two moderators I know) when writing in their native language. So, the transcription of Latin into Russian is not that important.

Crystal4879

Dear, are you sure that both of these moderators have Russian as their native language? Grammar is one thing, and when the word is "мама" and "мамо," it is clear what it means, but someone might say it's a mistake, but for whom is it a mistake? However, when they write "ампифрион осилирис," and it should be "Амфиприон оцеллярис," it would be better if they wrote in Latin "Amphiprion ocellaris," it would be clearer.

Tanya

and that's true

Laura4892

I agree with Anatoly. As a newcomer, it's still difficult for me to navigate the names of animals, and I constantly copy the animals mentioned by the topic starter into Google to understand who is being referred to and to learn a bit more. Due to misspellings, I sometimes get confused or it shows almost all the inhabitants of the planet (I'm exaggerating, of course).

Julie4738

I still find it more unpleasant to read "pishy i ischo" than "amphifryon osiliris."

Bridget

Dear marine aquarium enthusiasts, I am moving the posts on this topic here. If you're interested, let's discuss it here.

Earl

I once had the idea of creating a simple guide to marine hydrobionts, but I have few photos. If the forum supports it, I'm ready to continue this idea, so at least we can know where to find the correct names. In fact, the list of hydrobionts that we keep is quite limited, and compiling such a guide is definitely within our capabilities. The beginning is here and here. I would be glad if someone takes a look and shares their reasoned feedback!!! There are many taxonomic versions, and I would really like to have a correct and up-to-date one.

Laurie3842

I knew it wouldn't hold up.

Jill1815

Well, he is right.

Karen2578

The catalog is somewhat oversized/long, it takes a while to find... although those who are looking... I like the Logo one, it's small, with photos (main catalog), and then there are subcategories. It's easy and simple to use even for beginners. Just my opinion.

Kevin8087

There are many options. There are by taxonomy, there are by names, there are by photos. The information is the same, the methods of presentation are different.

Brandon9634

Such a classification as yours is convenient for zoologists, but for people who are not familiar with biology and beginners in marine aquariums, it would be better to provide a search based on the conditions and difficulty of keeping the creatures. However, of course, you can't please everyone at once! And since I am a biologist myself, I support the classification that exists!)))

Jason

Can I have the link?

Hannah

Oh, what Tor has written!

Veronica

Of course. Tap.

Charles894

Unfortunately, I am a techie, so I am not sure that the provided classification is 100% correct.

Eric8832

Indeed, it's correct to say hydrobionts. I somehow got used to the sound and spelling of hydrobionts. I don't see anything shameful in it for myself. A student always knows at a three, a teacher at a four, and only God knows at a five. Thank you for the correction; now I will know.

Kellie

By the way, the best reference (in my opinion) is not on AquaLogo, but on Reflex.

Martin3206

Back to the old ways? Mocking someone and showing vanity is not in my rules. I have no intention of justifying myself, especially for a certain fee.

Cynthia6578

this topic is not created for personal attacks or discussing forum members

Sherri1320

Well, just delete his post and forget about it, so as not to create incorrect terms, but you took the quarrel out of the house into a separate THREAD. Now Vasya will make a mistake, then Petya, Kolya, and what’s the point of creating topics, showcasing knowledge of Latin, and making newcomers a laughingstock.

Destiny

For some reason, when you corrected me, I didn't take it as an offense; on the contrary, I was grateful. As you rightly pointed out: I am personally only thankful to those who correct me.

Katie3017

I don't know about the names, but the recommended volumes on the reflex are just ridiculous; in my opinion, 500 liters is awesome for a little dog?!?!?!?

Vanessa

Well, that's clear, but what if it was written in his price list like this (to a bad example): I will sell SКихоЛаРтиКа, AРемАн ordinary carpet. Price... How would that be? Would many understand or guess? That's what the remark and request are about, to try to write correctly.

Johnny

He won't ask again; he understands it well enough, and why should he? The client and the trade are more important, but for the common good, this is important, very important. Why? This has already been said and repeated in this topic, and regarding the mockery, your posts only rely on that. What I need to create is my personal business; please do not specify.

Adam

I apologize, but what is this about? Is it about everyone starting to write with mistakes? Or about the fact that it was right to point out a mistake to someone who made several errors in every word? This site is specialized, and if I made a mistake in the name of a culinary dish here, no one would say a word, but on a culinary forum, I would definitely get reprimanded for that. On any specialized forum, people don't like it when words directly related to their topic are distorted. I don't see anything wrong with that. Moreover, the forum rules state:

Brandy1134

Allod, finally admit that you are wrong, apologize to the topic starter, as it has deeply affected him, and please say that you won't do this anymore, otherwise this topic is turning into spam. It's already like Borodino here - horses, people, everything is mixed up. I also commit to correctly writing the names of hydrobiotons and never insulting them. Thank you for your attention.

Jessica8898

Ugh. I'm not calling anyone to anarchy. In two years on the forum, as I've been browsing the "Marine Aquaristics" section, I've seen so much, but to air dirty laundry like this and blow it out of proportion is extraordinary. No one has ever called hydrobins that way; they corrected that person, removed their post so you wouldn't be embarrassed by it, and then forgot about it like a bad dream. A person who made a mistake should be corrected, but not in front of everyone, creating a topic and rubbing their face in it.

Brent5588

What does Allod have to do with it? His post was just provided as an example. It's a matter of principle. If someone is offended by the first post, I ask the moderator to replace the quote with mine, with the incorrect spelling of the word hydrobionts. I won't be offended and won't demand satisfaction.

Tami

and you forgot to close this topic as well.
