If there are few fish and many plants (which I doubt) - then no need. But in general, it will be necessary.

external or hanging filter, aerator - at your choice...

Hanging!!!! What will happen if we don't aerate??????
Collin
Well, if it's going to be hanging, then let it hang—why shout at me like that?
If it's for aeration, there won't be any oxygen.
P.S. Seawater should generally be saturated with oxygen... Especially if there are fish...

I'm not shouting! How will the zoanthids and briarium feel?
Melissa3820
You would measure the oxygen content of your aquarium water. What if a miracle happened and the water in your aquarium has almost 100% oxygen saturation (as it should) and without additional aeration? Then, of course, there is no need for extra aeration. The oxygen content in the water of a marine aquarium is one of the most important indicators.

How do you suggest doing this?

Everything has been thought of before us:

Both fish and invertebrates benefit greatly from high levels of dissolved oxygen. The main condition for this is good water circulation, as oxygen primarily enters from the surface where water comes into contact with air. The optimal oxygen level is 6-7 ppm.
