Daniel

And even better—on the contrary: 8 kg of good live rocks and 2 kg of dry food... I don't know about others, but I would do it that way if I were setting up an aquarium.

Hunter1471

There is no doubt, but this is not an axiom. Better, but more expensive. And there are many cans launched purely on crackers... Maybe you could tell how you came to the sea and how it all started for you? Personally, I'm interested, and it might motivate many others!

Jose

It was a long time ago, back in '93... and I've already told the story, there's no point in repeating the same thing.

Jason9385

Can you find a link? I personally haven't read it.

Guy

I'll give it a try.

Jeffrey2277

I remembered the painting "Hunters at Rest." They sit and tell stories. If you're really into it, you should start with the theory, so to speak, and learn the material. Only then should you take out your wallet and think about the volume. Sometimes at the pet store, I see a scene where they bring a kid and ask, "What do you want: a hamster, a little parrot, or fish?"

Robert

nobody disputes this

Emily

By the way, the Mini 25 liters in the photo, I think, is quite a staged shot. The clumps of heteromorphs, the aiptasia are flourishing, the bodies in 25 liters, there are plenty of flaws there. But as an advertising shot - it's great! I apologize, of course, but my mood is not nostalgic. I was playing with the Reef Octopus 80 skimmer. It's sad... P.S. In a marine aquarium, time is more important than money! First: for maintenance. Second: for contemplating the underwater world!

Andrew9581

Well, don't say that, it's a beautiful aquarium, I've seen different photos, and there's nothing impossible about 25-liter tanks... they are small, just a couple of centimeters. Well, yes, after the start costs less than 4k, it's just a matter of time. Although it doesn't take much time either.

Stephen5841

Well, there was already a case with the small tank when he decided to treat an aquarium much larger than the mini, and they grow quickly and large. By the way, as has been mentioned more than once, you need to add at least 1000 for the installation of reverse osmosis to your cost!

Steven7574

The small bodies only poison fish... corals are practically not affected... It's true that some grow, but not all species, and not all species are that toxic... Osmosis: in principle, yes, but for example, for the first six months, I bought osmosis water, and there were no particular problems with topping up... In Kyiv, a 40-liter bottle of osmosis water (with home delivery) costs about 30 or 40... and it lasts almost a month for 100 liters... I'm saying that you can start a marine aquarium without having osmosis water...

Heather9815

Uncle Vanya is against it. Categorically against it. I believe that anyone living in Kyiv will quickly resolve the issue with the marine aquarium by visiting a couple of leading companies. In the village, it's impossible without osmosis and without a TDS meter.

Caleb6320

Yes, for those who live in small towns, it’s more difficult in every way... Well, the starting price along with the osmosis is 4k (400 euros), which isn’t that high by today’s standards... But for me, it’s worth it! The amount of relaxation and pleasure you get after a day of hustle and bustle is incomparable!

Courtney4094

Allow me to disagree. Categorically. There are quite a few examples of nano-reefs. Many of them are quite successful. There are plenty of 200-liter tanks with a dull appearance and design, and many nanos with pretty good results. The main thing is not the large volume and lack of risk, but the love for the sea and the skill, persistence, and determination, if you will, in achieving the goal. Read and look at the photos of aquariums in the thread "my little marine aquarium up to 100 liters" on.

Mike

I understand that this is not a topic for discussion about the pros and cons of nano tanks, but rather about the accessibility of marine aquariums. However, I would like to present one significant argument against nanos: esteemed marine enthusiasts, I am sure many of you (probably, Max and others) have large aquariums that have been running for many years without a reboot. Now tell me, who has a nano that is at least five years old? I doubt it! I apologize once again for straying from the topic.

Michele9664

I also disagree with you because I have a TL 550 with 128 liters and I am satisfied with it. Yes, there are drawbacks, but overall it is a decent aquarium. When I started, I had no experience in aquaristics, and even reading topics on the forum, I couldn't visualize everything. However, after getting this aquarium, I understood the principle of how the system works. Now I can freely plan an aquarium of 500 liters since I understand how the system should function.

Elizabeth882

I saw on one of the forums that sulfur for 128 liters was discussed, the topic started in 2008 and still exists today without any restarts; the main thing is to approach the matter wisely.

Steven7574

Well, I won't argue, maybe. Although 128 liters seems to me not quite nano anymore.

Destiny

My only advice to beginners is to get Live Rock, and make sure it's of good quality, and the more the better. Personally, when I started, I took 15 kg and added another 5 kg after a week. But basically, people also start with dry reef rock; it just takes longer for the system to mature and the risks are higher. By the way, if this topic is for beginners, let's all clarify the abbreviations, because I know from my own experience that when I started reading this forum, those abbreviations always left me confused!

Gene1948

That's exactly what I was talking about; by launching a small sea, finances and understanding suddenly appear for launching a big sea. The hardest part is to start and realize that the devil is not as scary as he is painted, or as many are used to thinking—it's expensive! I started with 120 liters, and I don't regret it at all.

Mitchell7972

Live rocks are always good (even without considering icos, palolo, etc.), but we were talking about accessibility. Naturally, you can set up a nano tank of about 30 liters for 1k, but I was specifically referring to a small system... I previously provided a minimal setup for starting, and of course, it can be varied. If you want, give an example of how you would set up a tank, what you would use, and at what cost?

Bethany

Well, you got a bit carried away with the 5x5 cm aquarium; you can't really do much with it.

Rachel

Why write a new message every minute? You can edit and add! You're just stretching the topic...

Michael3221

I have a backpack filter with a volume of 0.5 liters, you showed a jar. "Sea in every home! Let's save the reefs!" That's why I started talking about 100 liters, as this is more or less a stable system... Yeah, I also justify my thought about 500-600 liters.

Sharon

Wait, don't divert the topic to parameter control and the discussion of 10 or 1000 liters!!!! Everything is fine, the topic is interesting, and I'm sure many would like to try the sea at home or at work. Let them watch and reflect. Here we simply show that it can be both interesting and accessible, and how each person came to their own sea.

Anthony7814

No, no, no, I'm not taking it away, I'm just saying that the example of 100 liters is the most neutral, so to speak, a golden mean for the beginning of a journey at sea. But who else would share how they started their journey...? And also provided examples of "cheap and cheerful" equipment...?

Angela

I'm not a sailor, but I read your topic with interest, thank you. From my modest knowledge of marine aquaristics, I think the list of expenses should include a reverse osmosis system, TDS meter, pH meter, salinity meter, and salt. P.S. I apologize if this is off-topic.

Alicia5489

In the topic! We talked about this a bit earlier. Yes, of course, you need to include this device! But personally, for the first six months, I bought osmotic water (or you can buy ready-made salty water), while I had a 120-liter aquarium... In big cities where water delivery is available, this is not a problem, but in small towns, you need to set up an osmosis system... And that costs around 1000 or so... I also mentioned the salt earlier... As for tests and various meters, you can skip those for now; anyway, in the first two months, you shouldn't overload the aquarium, and the parameters fluctuate wildly while the sand is settling, etc... BECOME A MARINER

Christopher

If starting from a budget mini, the first thing to consider is the availability of all equipment. If you choose to go without a skimmer, the selection of size should start with the availability of marine lamps. The most suitable are either AquaEl fixtures with 11-watt bulbs or, if you want something a bit more powerful, the ideal ones are Aqua Medic Power Compact 24 W actinic and BOYU PL-24W white-blue. These two lamps will be sufficient for a 20-30 liter aquarium with ideal lighting. The rest of the small items are readily available. I don't know what else to add. Is a home marine aquarium accessible? Of course! You just need to be passionate about it. (If it's necessary)

Alexander

I had to, I had to, I had to, I had to Today I increased the volume almost twice I'm a fool, what can I say... I went to buy fish food and a toy for the dog, and I bought an aquarium instead P.S. I also bought the food and the toy

Angel628

Dimensions?

Patrick4439

Pleasant price

Noah1632

Well, I once bought it in the same store for 9 euros per kg, and almost all the stones turned out to have different polyps, etc. There is a store where they sell artificial live rocks for 15 euros, which are practically bare and completely useless. By the way, I would like to point out that the prices for equipment and everything else are the same as in Germany, and there are even cases when the equipment is cheaper than in Germany.

Jeffrey

However, the standard of living is not the same for everyone!

Scott8536

Off-topic, but it's not great here either... it used to be wonderful, but now it's like everywhere else: if you have money, it's good, and if not, it's the same as everywhere.

Bethany

The conclusion is that one average salary is not enough. But if there is a desire, it would be possible.

Christine

It's very simple... I'm a big boss ))))))))))))))))) As my life experience shows, theory and practice are different things. No matter what anyone says, even a small marine aquarium requires certain expenses, and maintaining the sea either involves people with average or higher income or professionals who earn from servicing it.

Cindy

Well, if there were no sea, I wouldn't be the boss.

Caleb6320

If it weren't for the sea, I would have bought my wife a more expensive car.

Alexander

On the other hand, the wife has been "at" the sea for a whole year. What's wrong with that?

Scott8536

Sailors, share links to good and affordable equipment. Post passwords and contacts for where to order good aquariums, cabinets, etc. at a reasonable price. Where to buy live rocks (LR) and dry reef rocks (DR) and sand cheaper, and everything else... Maybe this will help someone, and there will be more sailors!

Chris

The topic has quieted down... and we, newcomers, are curious. So, Anya and I are thinking of launching a marine aquarium (M.A.) for the New Year, probably the 450-liter one.

Selena4467

So feel free to ask, I am happy to answer.

Andrea8397

I'm currently struggling to find a lamp for 26 liters... I'm still gathering equipment to turn the pseudo-sea into a reef... My budget for lighting is minimal - 300. I'm still far from filtration. Nano is to get a taste for the bigger setup, as I really like angels. This is my trial - let's see if it works out. I really want to try salts on a small budget.

Cassandra7840

This is not a pittance! For light at 26 liters, this is a huge amount of money. And if you start with a pittance, it's enough to buy energy-saving bulbs. Here’s how it is here -

Wendy

Well, you have cool plans to keep angelfish in a 26-liter aquarium.

Amber6362

This is definitely not for angels :) I was actually expecting even more. Thank you for the link. But I think I would prefer a ready-made lamp because the aquarium is not branded, with a glass overlay lid. I'm afraid the savings won't fit. Less explanation, here’s the photo.

Tracy

How long have you had it? What is there/living there?

Vincent

How did you manage that? I launched 600 liters, spent about that much, and that's with the water!!!

Crystal4879

I have estimated the future and already incurred expenses: Aquarium 26 L 150, self-adhesive with rubberized corners and panoramic curved glass; Temporary (until the arrival of animals and fish) hanging filter, SunSun HBL-501 II - 68, carbon + spare pack of carbon 15. I am still struggling with the lighting - Aquael Decolight Duo ine Black 2x11 W. 353.87 probably. Foam separator Aqua Medic Skim Box 272. Filter Aqua Medic Biostar 1,441.97. Prices for Arowana.

Nicholas

For some reason, he was in the section of pen holders. The price works for me. I still need this thing anyway. I also forgot to write down in the list the purchased coral gravel 10 kg 75 and aragonite sand 2 kg 22 from a store in Lutsk.

Joseph

In my city, all the equipment is more expensive than on Arovana, and all the stores except one refused to bring in marine equipment, supposedly because it's insanely expensive and no one is interested in the sea here.

Amy9618

Why didn't you say that you were gathering equipment at the sea? In principle, everything can be found in our city (and if something is missing, I'll bring it) and even get some corals at first.

Kevin3579

I forgot) we are still considering with my mom. We asked the saleswoman in the store, and she said to contact you, but I somehow forgot everything we agreed on. I'm writing in private messages.

Brent5588

Traditionally, for the mini, I provide a time-tested topic: How much money is wasted by beginners due to their unwillingness to learn from proven experience. Instead of the Aqua Medic Biostar filter for 1,441.97, one could buy a great aquarium with all the equipment. P.S. Haste makes waste.

Stephanie9175

Why do I need to buy a Chinese aquarium instead of a good one that has already served for a year? I just need to choose a filter and that's it. So, suggest something better than an imaginary penny :) Besides buying another aquarium.

Aaron

Your aquarium costs 150, and a poor-quality light will end up being more expensive than a good Chinese aquarium with a built-in filter and light. A skimmer is usually placed in the sump, not in the display. A 24-liter aquarium will thrive on water changes (see the link to Mini Nemo). Over time, you may realize that it is much more beneficial to study the theory before starting an aquarium than to "lose" money due to mistakes that could have been avoided by learning from the experiences and errors of others. P.S. Open your own thread and let's start discussing the topic in detail. P.P.S. "Everyone builds a system at the level they are at."

Amy5070

He will not live on substitutes; you do not know the water from Volyn. 100% everything will get sick. And I will repeat - I have nowhere to put another small aquarium. I don't need it! And the smaller one offered, although not by much, I don't like. I just want a good filter and a protein skimmer; I'm interested in prices and models. Naturally, I won't go buy it today or tomorrow. I will only take it a few months after it matures (and it will mature under my Chinese sun), but I want to look and estimate now whether it's worth the effort or if I should just forget about it.

Rebecca1419

Today I'm going to look at the osmosis installation. Gluing a tank for SAM is not a problem; I have glass at home, there's space, and it won't be visible. It doesn't seem realistic to insert it into the lid of my aquarium. I also don't need a quarantine tank; it costs about 100 liters for that. A second aquarium of a similar size, around 30-50 liters, is unnecessary. My family won't understand why I need a second small aquarium. I'm looking on Google, and it seems that Deltec is all for large aquariums.

Tricia7885

So, why look at it? There is a seller of these systems on this forum. Many have bought here, including me. It will be one and a half times cheaper than retail, and you can choose the necessary configuration. I got it without a storage tank and without a mineralizer. It's been working normally for almost three years now.

Daniel9952

On the cost, to be precise. So, through acquaintances + the store gives some gifts, it's their birthday, you know. Why? My family thinks these are necessary gadgets. If I were to get another aquarium and from the Chinese, it would only be the Resun DMS-500PL. But there's no space for that one, and I couldn't find any photos of it in ready-made form, and I'm curious about what's inside. As for the smaller one, I like it, but I prefer it more because it's already ready and beautiful.

Anthony7814

For osmosis - clear, thank you for the hint )
