Look closely at photo five out of six (one in the reef). And if such a stone were sold in Germany, it would hardly have prospects and regular buyers afterward. And let's not confuse the standard of living and the incomes of residents in Germany, France, and London. Normal sellers would resolve the issue immediately, rather than starting to warn other suppliers, criticize the market, talk about ending cooperation with me, etc. Many buyers raise their hands high and then drop them sharply, but not from this group. There should always be a balance of price and quality, and at least a little adherence to the principle that the customer is always right.

The absence of coralline can indicate two things. Either the stone is very good, or it is simply dry and soaked in water. The fact is that I haven't seen coralline on the stones in the light of the sea. It is present in the shade and in the crevices, but all the stone on top is without coralline. And if the stone has coralline, then it is more likely either painted or revived dry stone from an aquarium.

I'll add my 5 cents too. I'm very satisfied with IReef. I bought live rocks from them for my setup without seeing their photos, and the rock arrived in excellent condition. Almost everything I purchased from IReef was sent without prepayment. At first, it was quite strange that in our time, something could be sent like that without any money upfront.

Live rocks are simply the skeletons of dead coral, taken out of the water and quickly placed in an aquarium. I have seen many beautiful acroporas growing on pieces of iron pipes, ordinary nylon ropes, and plastic floats that hold the lines. Near each of these floats, about the size of a 3-liter aquarium, lives a surgeonfish measuring 25-30 cm, which guards the float and charges at you if you start to touch it.

This can happen if stones are chopped in a lagoon without fish. I'm sure that if a shrimp is thrown into the sea, a hundred or so fish will rush to that spot at the splash, and the shrimp will be eaten in the first 2-3 seconds, after which a school of different fish will circle under that spot for about 5 minutes, waiting for "a piece of cheese from the crow." And the crunching sound in the water from the fish teeth gnawing off all the growths from the stones is quite something. No one feeds them in the sea. Yes, it's S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) that are sold at that price. I use L.K. (live rocks) for everything, both for the substrate and for the composition. I placed a couple of S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) in the "hill," but only temporarily, to raise the corals closer to the light.

The price is determined by how much our buyers are willing to pay. As long as we pay $20 per kg for the first type of stone, that will be the price. The other types will be sold accordingly cheaper. If a seller offers quality live stones (let's forget the word "Premium" for now) at a lower price and supplies them regularly and in large quantities, the others will also lower their prices.

There is a big difference between Kyiv residents and other customers of Airif - we buy personally, not through the internet or by phone. That's why we get good live rocks, corals of the right color and size, and fish without visible defects. The stone is normal, not monolithic, and there are encrustations. When I was importing the stone directly, there were two options: basic and premium. The basic one is completely white and dense... the premium is the first layer, with encrustations and more porous. Naturally, the encrustations vary everywhere, and the amount of marine life is different as well. As for the prices of the stone, in 2004, the cost of transporting 1 kg of stone from Jakarta to Odessa was $3.5, and we sold the stone to clients for 10-12 USD. Now the transport cost is around $10 per kg, and I am even afraid to think about how much customs clearance will cost.

I think the whole issue started when Airif posted a photo of a gorgeous J.K. (living stones), but he was selling, to put it mildly, not quite the same stone as in the photo. That's all.
P.S. I haven't bought or seen J.K. (living stones) from Airif, so I can't say anything, but from other suppliers, the best stone was with A. However, I went there in person and sorted through almost all of it.
