• the drug Ultra AlgeaX

Hello! I ordered the Ultra AlgeaX product, a remedy for removing filamentous algae, dinoflagellates, and bryopsis - to fight against dinoflagellates (I've been struggling for three months and decided to try chemicals now). I am very interested in reviews and advice from those who have used it. How does the product affect corals and other living creatures? What should be done with chaetomorpha and botryocladia during treatment (on forums, they say to rinse with fresh water, then with saltwater, and place it in the aquarium without light. Or should I throw away all the algae and then restock with new ones)? Can I turn on metal halides or only actinics (there's different information everywhere)? Thank you very much in advance!

Martha

Today I will dose for the sixth time (against Dino and Nitrate), Dino has decreased by 90%, and Nitrate by 60-70 compared to what it was. In the sump, there is only Heteromorpha - it doesn't care about the treatment, and the corals have started to open up much better (before they were smothered by algae), but in these ten days, I found five dead Stomatella - whether it's due to the treatment or not, I don't know. They say to reduce the white light to 6 hours, but I didn't do that - I left everything as it is (13 blue, 11 blue-white, 9 white). The day before dosing, I siphon the algae (a hose in the sump with a sock on the end). I will dose ten times (that's the maximum I understood).

My corals are not opening up much right now either. This is how everything looks closer to the evening. I brush them off with a brush.

I tried siphoning, but it was increasing. And I had a lot of bubbles too, but you can't see that.

Kimberly

They bubble up quite a lot! More bubbles on strings dance in the current, then detach and fly around the aquarium (like brown sperm).

Hi Slavic. I used it, the thread algae is gone. Ksenia doesn't feel very well with the corals, and one of the Ricordeas. All the others survived well. I threw away what was in the algae tank, as even what was left got badly spoiled. Now I have a new round of dancing, this time with bryopsis (it's throwing me off my internal balance). I'm fighting in the second aquarium.

Susan1358

Strombus is shocked by such bubbles.

Debra6575

Hi! I'm not particularly worried about the algae (we'll grow a new one). By the way, did you dim the light while using the product?

Jessica

Yes. I set the minimum and still do. I removed the coal and purigen. I turned the skimmer to maximum.

Wendy

If I leave the lights on the 420L aquarium - 2*80w actinics, will that be too much? Or can I turn on 4 lamps (I'm afraid the corals won't get enough light - they are already weakened)?

Amy5070

Well, I can't help you with that. But when I read the instructions, there was something about how it's better not to turn on the actinics.

Omar3497

The "miracle liquid" will arrive - I will study the instructions. For now, I'm looking online.

Jose

Slavik should have called me, I still had more than half left! By the way, it didn't help me much, and the algae you gave me also went to waste!

Ryan1989

What if I don't have enough for more than half, and a whole one is just right for the treatment course? I'll be throwing away most of the seaweed (the medication arrives tomorrow) - so feel free to take some if you need it.

Jason9385

After eight doses of the medication, I decided that's enough! Here's a before and after photo (no comments needed, but now small cyan spots have appeared). The light was only on for the actinics, 4*80W. All the inhabitants are fine, except for the white ksyukha (she's not doing well) and the feather duster worms (they died).

Paul

You have added the medication only 4 times. You are also dealing with dinoflagellates; the medication was added twice (so it's the third day now). Visually, it seems that they are growing more slowly, but it's still unclear. I reduced the light according to the instructions, no more than 6 hours, and also for the actinics. The soft corals opened normally yesterday, but today the Sinularia did not open. The snails and feather worms seem to be indifferent; in fact, the wild snails have started to breed and grow like crazy since the appearance of dinoflagellates.

Shawn

I added the treatment 8 times (the treatment lasted 16 days). After the first addition of the medication, the filter started producing a lot of yellow liquid. After the second time, the water became cloudy, and the umbrellas that had been closed for more than two months began to open (I had been trying to combat the issue with folk methods for a long time). After that, improvements continued to increase. The fan-shaped ones disappeared closer to the end of the treatment; some stones looked like they had "gray bristles" due to small worms, but they are gone now (which I am glad about), although there are also no beautiful larger worms. All the snails are alive.

I've been struggling for a couple of months too, trying to - raise nitrates, - darken for 72 hours, - darken while simultaneously raising pH, all to no avail. So I decided to try Fauna in Ultra Algae X, the only product where it was mentioned in the description that it destroys dinoflagellates. Right now, my skimmer is also producing yellow foam, but I had to slow it down a bit and adjust it for wet foam; otherwise, at full power since the dinoflagellates appeared, it hardly produced anything at all.

Ricardo7341

I had nitrates around 20 during the dino, and after using Ultra Algea X, they dropped to 5. Each aquarium requires its own approach, and I hope you find yours and overcome the dino, whether with chemicals or something else, as quickly as possible!

Natasha

I used it, the threadworm is gone.

Stephen

Where did you order it? I want to try it as a last resort; the thread alternating with the dino is driving me crazy.

Christina9947

At the flea market, there is a topic.

Janet5447

I tried this remedy, but it had no effect, and the anti-red from Aquarium Medic and even Erythromycin didn't help either. Then I moved all the fish and snails to another aquarium, didn't change the water or siphon it, and didn't add any supplements. After a month and a half, the dinoflagellates disappeared.

Sherri1320

I am currently using it, the first 4 applications brought little benefit, I followed all the instructions, then I decided to turn off the light leaving only the actinics on for 6 hours, the result was immediately positive, I applied it 3 times and the aquarium is free of dinos, but for now I don't risk turning the light on, I will complete the treatment course fully, 21 days.

Stephanie9175

In general, I also poured this thing, and so far I only see how the anemones (haddoni and quadricolor) have shrunk. I hope they change their minds tomorrow when the light turns on.

Michele9664

Friend's aquarium. I'm helping him. 10 additions. Even 11. The result is zero. Dino is present. Definitely dino, there's a microscope. Interestingly, the other algae - there's a bit of some green sponge on the pump, a couple of balls of valonia, and coralline - are also alive. I added strictly according to the instructions (well, except for one additional addition), reduced the light, turned off the UV and other equipment. It's concerning that I can't find the production date on the packaging. Maybe someone has a package where the date is printed? ...I'm thinking of removing all the hydrobionts from the aquarium for 2 weeks, completely darkening the aquarium, and repeating the course. What do you think?

Natalie

You guys are risky, pouring anything. If God allows, you might solve one problem, but then there will be other issues again, and it will be like that for life: while you "cure" one thing, another will pop up. I am against all quick fixes; TIME is the best remedy. No offense, this is just my personal opinion.

John3165

Many people have used this medication, including Karen (although he may not be an authority for you). And what accelerators are we talking about? The aquarium is not a month or two old.

Joshua448

What kind of aggression towards me is this? Did I say something offensive to you? I have no authorities, and he is not one of them. I prefer aquariums without ... . Especially if he has been around for more than a month, why pour Ultra AlgeaX or similar products into it?

Kevin8087

What, should we let dinoflagellates continue to kill invertebrates?

Debra

It's strange, I already had an effect after the second application. Maybe I should try turning off the lights completely for a couple of days? If there's no effect, then I can try radical methods.

Darrell7542

What’s so funny to you? What pitfalls? Do you know how the aquarium was launched, on what basis, what was used? You’re acting like a child - you came up with it yourself and laughed at it yourself.

Laura3673

I see. I also read that it helped everyone. Maybe the medication has expired... Is there an expiration date on yours?

Cheyenne2747

Well, well. He who laughs last, laughs best. We'll laugh later. Good luck.

Linda

Do you have specific suggestions on how to defeat the newly appeared dino? What are your proposals, step by step, on what a person should do? Perhaps you can explain the reason for their appearance.

Leonard

A dino can appear in an old, well-established aquarium, so read on, it's an interesting topic:

1. You can buy it, but it's better to find a good supply of fresh ones in spring (for obvious reasons). 2. It's a good idea to TAKE. 3. You can buy it if you trust them; at least it won't be worse. As for better, I don't know.
